The online retail giant amazon is entering the largest online retail market: India.
Amazon Seller Services Pvt. Limited, an Amazon.com company, today launched Amazon’s marketplace in India, www.amazon.in, with two new seller programs – ‘Selling on Amazon’ and ‘Fulfillment by Amazon’, providing customers the same decades of reliability it has been offering to international customers.
Amazon comes to India with Print Books (cover back), Movies, TV shows. Electronics and Cameras coming very soon. Initially, they will not have any prime memberships and would ship typically in 2 to 3 days of lead time.
Amazon may be the leader in US and UK but It would be tough for amazon to catch traction in India since online retail is a mature market in India. Players like flipkart.com, jabong.com, fashionandyou.com, eBay and several others. Flipkart offers one day shipping and unconditional returns, which Amazon would have to offer at some point to stay competitive.
Amazon.in customers can search and preview the text inside more than 1.3 million books through its Search inside, just like Google Books.
Commenting on the launch of Amazon.in, Amish Tripathi, mentioned:
“India is one of the fastest growing markets in the global publishing industry. But publishers and authors need to find new readers to sustain the growth momentum. Amazon has set benchmarks for innovation and efficiency in sales internationally and I look forward to seeing their work in India as well.”
The Movies & TV shows store features a collection of over 12,000 titles in English and Hindi across DVD, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D and Video CD formats.
