Jailbreak, Unlock iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware

Dev Team for released new Pwnage tool 3.1.4, which now makes it possible to Jailbreak, Unlock iPhone 3.1.2 for iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS using Mac. But this guide will enable you to do it without having to wait for Windows version of PwnageTool or redsn0w. Here’s how you do it for Windows:

Note: If you want jailbreak only, you can follow: iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak with Blackra1n

Google the custom firmwares and download from torrents, as you read on:

  • For iPhone 2G: “iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore”
  • For iPhone 3G: “iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore”
  • For iPhone 3GS: “iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore”

Hint: there is a site dedicated to custom firmware called iphonefix, try to look for it.

Step 1: Preparing your iTunes

Once download of the required .ipsw file completes, Move it to the following location:

Windows 7:
“C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\”

Vista
“C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\”

XP
“C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Update\”

Restart  iTunes9.1 (upgrade to latest version), while keeping the iPhone connected.

Step 2:  Restoring

Now you will have to restore your iPhone to this custom firmware 3.1.2 that you have just downloaded for your iPhone.

For Mac, Click on ‘Ok’ to the prompt displayed and hold Option key and then hit Restore button. For Windows, hold the shift key and then hit the restore button.

New window popsup asking you to locate your custom firmware. After selecting, iTunes will start decompressing and then will install. This is an automatic process, sit back and relax.

When it finishes, if you are on iPhone 2G, you are done. Your phone is jailbroken (with cydia installed) and Unlocked. 🙂

For iPhone 3G and 3GS, there’s just one more thing. ROFL like Steve Jobs always says.

Step 3: Installing Ultrasn0w (for 3G, 3GS  only)

Launch cydia,  Manage > sources > Edit > Add “http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com/”. This is the source for Ultrasn0w unlock for 3G.
After your sources refresh, search for “Ultrasn0w” and install it. Then Reboot . When it starts again, wait on the slide to unlock screen for say  10 seconds and after reaching home screen wait another 10. If you don’t see the your network working, reset network settings and try reinserting the SIM card and wait another 10 seconds.

You should be done.

Troubleshooting: Follow this guide if you get any iTunes Errors 16xx (1601,1602, 1603, 1604)

    • This happens when you have never updated any firmware in the past. Not a problem, create this directory manually, then place the file

  2. No joy for Step 1.

    I have:
    # iTunes 9.01
    # iPhone 3GS SW v.3.0
    # “iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore” downloaded from iphonefix server

    # “iPhone Software Update” folder does not exist (I've replaced [username] with my windows login username).. I guess we need to create this folder?

    # “C:Documents and Settings[username]Application DataApple ComputeriTunes” is write protected…so I cannot create “iPhone Software Update” folder manually. I've right clicked on the “iTunes” folder to remove the write protection but windows does not allow me to do it

    # I've got Admin rights on my computer so I should be able to remove the write protection on the ..”iTunes” folder but fails to do so.

    # I've downloaded the ““iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore”” and went straight to Step 2: Restoring and completed Step 2 with success. My iPhone 3GS is now jailbroken as described above.

    # Step 3 was also completed with success, UNFORTUNATELY, even with a successful Ultrasn0w install (twice) my iPhone 3GS still is Locked.

Conclusion (for now): I've now done the restore so many times that my iTunes keep on giving me error 1604 and refuses to load any ipsw anymore. I guess I have to make another Restore attempt from another computer with a fresh iTunes 9.0.1. I don't want to re-install my iTunes as I don't want to loose my Apps and save games and notes I have accumulated so far…

By the way I really did not intend to mess up my lovely iPhone 3GS, unfortunately, when I wanted to have a quick look at “Blackra1n” Jailbreak software, i managed to start the application while I have my iPhone connected to my PC ( I noticed this too late) and before I knew it, my iPhone was showing the USB cable and Itunes icon. I disconnected my iTunes from my PC after closing “Blackra1n” application. Rebooted my iPhone only to see the “USB cable and Itunes icon” again. HENCE i had to try this solution posted above.

Any other experiences from you guys? Also how to fix my iPhone?

    thanks!

  4. I just tried updating my phone, following all of the steps. I was previously using 3.0.1 software, jailbreaked and unlocked, but after the restoration process, it told me to insert a valid sim card, but I only have a T Mobile sim, which it won't detect.
What do I need to do??

      • I did, but only because I got my friends AT&T sim and put it in. That's the only solution I could find. Hope it works out

  5. I keep getting “iPhone cannot be restore, unknown Error 160X” where X can be 1, 2 or 4. I've followed the link below the above article: Troubleshooting: Follow this guide if you get any iTunes Errors 16xx (1601,1602, 1603, 1604). The Mac link seems to work but I have a PC and that link doesn't work. Also, it only seems to support 3.1.1 but not 3.1.2. Any idea other than wait and hopefully something else comes up again?
