I just did this install and at Step 8, instead of getting Darwin boot options, I got a blank text screen that indicated "boot1: error:" Google didn't show any resolutions, but after re-checking my steps, I went back into my BIOS and noticed that my SATA setting had been reset to RAID. Setting it back to AHCI (as per step 2) solved this and I was able to continue on. In case this helps anyone else. Also installed the KP patch. The problem is when I get to the point where I try to start the computer for the first time from the hard drive.

I use the -v command during the Darwin bootup and this is the last message I get before the screen goes black and the computer doesn't do anything (#'s to the side denote the readout line):
