iOS 5 has been Jailbroken using limera1n

iOS 5 was just announced and within less than 24 hours, comes the claim that iOS 5 has been jailbroken.

MuscleNerd tweeted that he has already jailbroken iOS 5 on his iPod Touch.

“iOS5 jailbroken on ipt4g: http://is.gd/7GxIcK http://is.gd/BwPvfh via limera1n + tethered boot..not too many surprises :)”

He used Limera1n to execute the Jailbreak but there is a catch. It is a tethered boot jailbreak, which means that you would need to connect your iPhone/iPod Touch to a computer every time you reboot it.

From what is seen, Cydia and iSSH both work flawlessly on iOS5, and apple has done little to close the existing loop holes for the vulnerabilities that limera1n exploits.

Apple would be launching iOS 5 in fall 2011, making this jailbreak almost useless as of now. We would be observing a number of iterations of beta and then RC releases before iOS 5 goes GM (gold master)

When the iOS 5 releases, one thing is sure that we would get a jailbreak within days. For the meantime checkout the screenshot of jailbroken iOS 5 below:

You can tell that this is iOS5 because other new icons are present, too, including “Newsstand,” the new home for your newspaper and magazines subscriptions on iOS5, and “Reminders,” a simple to-do list application.

Apple really hasn’t left many reasons for users to jailbreak except for piracy. Did apple get too much inspired from Jailbreaking community?
