Minority Report Finger Tracking Control using Kinect

The most hacker friendly gadget of all times gets another face lift. You can now use your finger, hand gestures to control your applications, just like in the Minority Report.

This is among the best Kinect hacks we’ve seen so far and to add to the goodness, its Open source and available for you to try with any of the supported applications.

Using your hand gestures, you can flick though photo albums, zoom and pan, and what not. Its like full two hand multitouch, without touching.

The project is called ROS Kinect and source code is available here.
Its not perfect, but it serves the purpose pretty precisely. The detection process distinguishes hands and fingers at 30 frames per second to allow for real time gesture interaction with almost any application.
