Google Maps Navigation is most superior Navigation app ever created on mobile or GPS. It provides turn by turn directions along with streetview, providing details of whats around you.

It get even better, developers have actually created a Navigation app that uses your camera and Navigates routes into Augmented Reality.

If you love exploring worldwide maps in 3D, or are searching for a truly interactive navigation app for your Android device, then Route 66 Maps + Navigation certainly has plenty to offer than any of its counterparts.

Route 66 is a splendid amalgamation of comprehensive 3D maps and augmented reality navigation that make driving and map exploration fun and informative at the same time.It has very interactive maps supplemented by 3D content such as simulated structures of famous buildings and monuments.

Route 66 provides Wikipedia links of popular places, and lets you search/filter map contents by various categories including your contacts, specific address, favorite locations, directions (with TTS support), points of interest (amenities) and much more. Follow Me – the app’s native augmented reality service – can be availed to trace your exact route on road, backed by with real-time graphics and a virtual car that leads you all the way to your destination.

See it in action:

If you’re a registered Route 66 user, you get an additional option of downloading unlimited maps to your device. Registration is free. The Follow Me feature, when activated, triggers your device’s camera, GPS, internet (if used online) and various sensors to trace your exact geographic location, position on road and car movements. On your screen, you can view the road in real, a virtual map, as well as a car that serves as your guide for the route.

The app keeps you alerted of all the turns and stoppages via flashing indicators and brake lights. App is capable of giving alarms & on-screen driving details, ensures that you remain fully alert. An ultimate Safe driving experience. You no longer have to worry about car ahead of you while looking at GPS.

What has been the biggest screen size of your dreams? 100″? 200″? Sony is about to break all the limits with a new set of glasses that give you 750″ of screen,

Sony is launching 3D Visor this year priced at $780. It would posses some remarkable features that will take 3D gaming and movies to a whole new level.

The HMZ-T1 Visor has a 1280×720 0.7-inch OLED panels mounted in front of each eye which give the user a viewing of 750-inch screen as appeared from 20m away. To accompany the cinematic effect would be a 5.1 surround sound from headphones which are of stereo nature, physically.

These are among the most high end VR Head mounted Displays we’ve seen. The color and contrast reproduction is promised to be far more superior than any we’ve seen so far, thanks to stereo OLED displays.

Sony 3d Visor in action at CES:

Of course they’ll be portable and battery operated.

Add that extra dimension to your web browsing experience with a new Firefox extension called “Tilt”.

Tilt lets you visualize a web page’s structure in 3D, may it be any site. The 3D rendering is done using WebGL which ensures that the graphics are smooth and rich. The work comes from Mozilla’s own developers which kickstarted the idea at Google Summer of Code project.

Tilt takes the DOM structure and creates a tree like representation layering each node based on the nesting in the tree, stacks of elements, each having a sense of corresponding depth and is textured based on the webpage rendering itself. The experience hence produced is the most realistic.

3D is not just the only thing Tilt does, it also gives out various infos regarding each node’s type, id, class, or other attributes, hence providing editing and viewing the inner HTML and other properties of the HTML, page DOM elements.

Controlling and navigating is easy, and can be easily be followed using the onscreen help.

Get 3D Browsing, download Tilt extension.

Download the xpi and drag-drop to Firefox, install it and look for Tilt inside the Tools menu.

Mozilla is working on Tilt and bringing some newer, cooler features soon — modifying and updating the 3D webpage mesh on the fly, rendering elements with absolute position or floats differently, a developer-friendly environment and better integration with the Ace editor and the Firefox Developer Tools.

LG has been working on a glasses-free 3D display for smartphone. There was a 3D android Smartphone without glasses at CES, but its didn’t catch many eyes.

Very recently, the Optimus 3D phone was leaked to the web and its further presence is confirmed by the fact that LG would be announcing “into the new dimension” at MWC 2011.

The Optimus 3D could actually be on par with Motorola ATRIX 4g phone.

Till now one of the main problems with 3D screens is lack of 3D content, LG singlehandedly solves the problem by allowing you to create your own 3D content.

Few facts about the LG Optimus 3D:

The device is larger than 4″, perhaps 4.3″ or 5 inches and gives full visual 3D experience that wows.

Dual Core Processor & Multi-channel RAM - this is definitely better on specs than the Optimus 2X.

Front facing camera

Optimus 3D will also include a dual-lens camera for 3D RECORDING, shooting 3D photos.

Here is the full press release:

LG TO UNVEIL WORLD’S FIRST FULL 3D SMARTPHONE AT MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS 2011
3D Recording-Viewing-Sharing of Life’s Precious Moments Anytime, Anywhere

SEOUL, Feb. 1, 2011 - At this year’s Mobile World Congress, LG will unveil the LG Optimus 3D the world’s first 3D smartphone offering consumers a full 3D experience right in the palm of their hands.

The LG Optimus 3D addresses the lack of 3D content issue – one of the biggest problems facing the 3D market – with a complete platform for a one-of-a-kind experience on a mobile device. LG’s most advanced smartphone to date will feature a dual-lens camera for 3D recording, a glasses-free LCD panel for 3D viewing and diverse connectivity options such as HDMI and DLNA for 3D content sharing anytime, anywhere.

Ever dreamt that you could have a smartphone that can shoot photos is 3d, play videos in 3D, play games in 3d, has menus in 3d that too without 3d Glasses? Time to dive into this new Android phone from Sharp.

Sharp’s Galapagos is here to change the trend with world’s first 3D Android phone. Sharp Galapagos 003SH is capable of not only showing 3D menus, pictures, and videos, but allows you to snap some as well. In addition, it supports 3D-enabled games, one of which I was able to demo.

There are two variants of this 3D phone, Galapagos 005SH which sports a QWERTY keyboard.

Sharp uses Parallax Barrier 3D 3.8″ WVGA screen, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a whopping 9.6 MP camera capable video in 720P, and currently runs Android 2.2 “Froyo.” ITs no fake 3d, it actually works and of course “you need to be at a certain angle to view it”.

Nintendo 3DS uses the same technology to achieve Glass-less 3D. The only drawback one could see with this phone is lack of dual-stereo camera, and you endup shooting two photos from same camera, which is not ideal. Rest of it all works great.

Checkout the video below, of course camera cant capture exact 3D that our real eyes can, but it should give you a fair idea.

Trimensional lets you capture 3D scans with your iPhone, using a simple analogy.

How it Works: To get started, crank up the brightness of your iPhone 4 to max, and stand in a dark place. Hold the phone screen up to your face (around 20cm away) with theTrimensional app loaded, and tell it to starts scanning.

The result is a 3D scan of your face. The quality exclusively depends on how dark is the environment around you.

Here’s full list of features you will be amazed with:

Capture your own 3D scans

Browse your 3D scan library

Rotate and zoom your 3D models

Pick from 6 different 3D rendering modes

View a 3D slideshow

Email images directly to friends

Save images to camera roll for posting to the web

The app costs just $0.99 on the App Store. Of course the app would work with iPhone 4 or the latest generation (4th) iPod touch.

LG is leading its ways for 3D TVs, launching technology ahead of time.

LG has invented a new Technology called FPR or Film Patterned Retarder. FPR is said to be most superior 3D liquid crystal display (LCD) systems.

What’s different in FPR

The current generation system uses a frame sequential method and the display is viewed using liquid crystal shutter glasses (SG). The new technology uses a polarized film substrate in the panel and is viewed using polarized film glasses. FPR reduces the vertical resolution to half that of a panel and produces a near-4K resolution full high definition 3D picture that is extremely sharp and bright. The system was demoed on an 84-inch display, playing a 4x times 1080p HD video.

It argues that the current generation of Shutter Glasses (SG) 3D panels have problems with the weight of the shutter glasses, power consumption and reduced brightness. By contrast, LG Display’s new FPR technology has no flickering, produces minimal cross talk (the blurry ghosting image) and delivers a brighter screen. This allows for 3D glasses to be lighter, polarized and more curved like regular glasses.

The polarized film glasses eliminate the flicker and crosstalk problems and neither do they require power from batteries or USB charge and hence are more comfortable. This would also remove synchronization errors, and occasional interruptions.

The step is evolutionary, and not by any means revolutionary. 3D TVs without Glasses would be the revolution. But achieving 4K resolution in 3D is the next big thing.

I’ve been looking for the right Augmented Reality glasses that can suit my needs. Most of the products have disappointed me and made me feel that we are 5 years away from getting one that works flawlessly.

Augmented Reality is all about filling the Real world with augmented objects that fit the Real world, nicely. Watching virtual balls fall through a digital gap in a table, and a life-sized virtual human sitting in an empty chair, those are things we expect from a good Augmented Reality glasses.

Virtual Reality vs. Augmented Reality

Whereas virtual reality shows you only a digital landscape, augmented reality (AR) mixes virtual information, like text or images, into your view of the real world in real-time.

In the last few years, AR has started appearing on smart phones. On phones, software superimposes information on top of your view of the world, as seen through the device’s screen. But AR eyewear is superior because of inherent advantages — it provides a more immersive experience.

Best Augmented Reality Glasses

The Wrap 920AR glasses from Vuzix does it perfectly. It costs around $1,995, which is about half the price of other AR goggles with similar image resolution. The glasses will primarily appeal gamers, animators, architects, and software developers, and it has developed software for building AR environments, which is included with the glasses.

So what does it feel like wearing one of these Glasses? Wearing the 920AR means looking at the world through a pair of LCD video displays.

The glasses have two video cameras for 3d augmentation of depth. Apart form that glasses are equipped with accelerometers, gyro sensors, and magnetometers that track the direction in which the wearer is looking. The best part of the glasses is that this Augmented reality glasses work with iPhone, and compatible devices like Android, for portable power and controls, such as loading a particular AR object or environment.

The Vuzix software can recognize and track visual markers and lock onto a certain object or color. By tracking head movements, the software can make sure that virtual objects are perfectly positioned atop the real world.

“There are other folks who make stereo, see-through eyewear, but there’s no one making anything near the price point of Vuzix’s,” says Steve Feiner, professor of computer science at Columbia University, and a lead AR researcher since the 1990s. Also, the integration of cameras and motion sensors into the display makes the glasses less bulky.

In the year of 3D, 3d movies on iPhone, iPad & Android will soon become possible.

It’s not a native 3d Video but still offers fair enough results to match the performance of 3d anaglyph (red-blue) glasses without actually wearing those crazy glasses

Spatial View has developed an app that makes this possible. The 3DeeCentral has been submitted to the iOS App Store and soon coming to Android. The app features a catalogue of 3D movies that can be viewed on the devices. However, 3DeeCentral requires the you to use a thin screen that adds that 3rd dimension of depth — 3d without glasses.

Business Insider got early handson and has +ve feedback:

We don’t expect this to sweep the nation overnight. For one thing, it looks like the library of content will be fairly sparse to begin with. And the 3D effect isn’t as compelling as it is on a larger screen using glasses.

But we just tried it out, and it was real, live 3D right there on the phone. And that was awesome.

3DeeCentral would be available in the fall and should cost < $20, on both iOS and Android, plus the media store will have additional cost per movie/video download.

Adobe is out to change the very face of photography with a new groundbreaking technology that would change the Photography forever.

The new technology computes an image in much smarter way. Adobe uses new Plenoptic lenses to capture a series of images over certain depth range when camera is clicked. The images taken by this method capture various focus levels ( right from too much IN to too much OUT), capturing just enough data to produce perfectly focussed image during Post-processing , a method of taking pictures so that any part of a photo can be brought into focus after the fact.

Adobe demoed this Revolutionary Technology at the Nvidia’s GPU Technology Conference. While the technology is still a good ways from being commercialized, it’s an interesting look into the future of photography. By using a bunch of tiny lenses and some rendering software, users will be able to select what they want in focus, even after the photo has been taken. This technology will let users create Stereoscopic 3D images on the fly as well.

How Plenoptic Lenses Work

Plenoptic lens consists of hundreds of tiny lenses kept together–in between a camera’s lens and the image sensor.

Here’s what the plenoptic lens looks like. The lens is on the left; that large round object is a pin head:

With the Plenoptic lens in-place, the camera’s sensor records what looks like a bunch of fragmented images, but in reality, each fragment contains more information about individual light rays entering the camera.

To understand this better, lets recall how a traditional camera works and then compare the difference

With traditional or current generation cameras, a ray of light enters the lens and gets recorded on a specific spot, as illustrated below:

Plenoptic lens adds magic to it, the same light ray passes through several lenses before making it to the sensor, so it’s getting recorded from several different perspectives.

Because there’s all these tiny little lenses in front of the sensor, the resulting image looks like a pixelated image with several 1000s of tiny images, which when post-processed yields images with any focus. but, when these iamges are processed, they give you vital information about the image with different Focus levels.

Watch the Video to get a closer look:

Indeed, a very intriguing demonstration. While the technology has yet to be miniaturized so that it can fit into modern cameras, the potential is huge for power Photography professionals. And not to forget a simpler approach for amateurs.

The most affordable BluRay player/ gaming console is now starting to get Entertainment upgrade as Sony upgrades Play Station 3 firmware that will allow the consoles to play 3D Blu-ray Disc titles.

Of course, you would still need a 3D TV to get immersive 3D content, that doesn’t change. The strategy is mixed - Sony estimates that it could sell 2.5 million 3D TVs this year and would eventually expand the technology from high-end to mid-market sets, making it more affordable.

PS3 firmware version 3.50 is now available for PS3 users and can be installed through the PS3′s “settings” menu.

Talking about numbers, Sony has sold more than 35 million PlayStation 3 consoles worldwide, which now exceeds the number of 3D-compatible Blu-ray Disc players sold, by all other vendors all together.

The 3D content won’t be just limited to Movies, videos, but also PlayStation 3, but also in Gaming. Sony had announced 3D gaming back in June, now they would be adding more 3D Game titles.

V3.50 also brings two of other features which includes better integration between games and Facebook. This of course has an advantage — Developers will now be able to create games that have greater interaction with the popular social networking site. For example, users could be able to access Facebook and pull in user names, uploaded photos and friends lists from the site.

The second feature makes it easier for users to report spam/inappropriate messages send to them via the PS3′s PlayStation Network messaging system. The options menu in the friends category will now include an option to report a message.

In the year when every mode of entertainment wants to go 3D, no one wants to wear those Glasses. And that is Why 3D without Glasses is the Next Big Thing.

The 3D holographic displays you see in movies are now becoming a reality. Sony is showing off a new prototype display capable of 360 degree 3D images. The new 360º autostereoscopic display allows users to view full colour volumetric objects from all angles, as if objects really exist, but no 3D glasses are required to see the image.

There’s nothing like watching it with your eyes, but a Video should give you some basic idea (since this video isn’t 3D)

RayModeler uses LED lightto produce full color 24-bit, one-degree separations images. To achieve full 3d videos, the device uses a series of cameras that circle the object being recorded, allowing broadcasts to have true depth, unlike current 3D offerings.

The display has a digital-video input port for connection to computers or other devices. It is also equipped with a gesture sensor to allow users to move and interact with the object inside the cylindrical display.

The major breakthroughs have been seen in over last 5 years when we were able to represent complex graphics like Fire flames, Water flow & waves, etc.

What has not been possible till today was to replicate behavior of very complex particle motions like granular sand flowing through virtual world. I’m sure supercomputers at MIT can do better, but for an end user experience, this is amazing. It’s the Lagoa Multiphysics 1.0 engine, as developed by Thiago Costa, and essentially simulates real-life physics. Whether you’re a math geek like me or not, you might end up drooling a bit when you see this.

Particle physics framework that gives control over:

High friction granular materials

Incompressible fluids

Elastic structures

Plastic deformations

Cloth flow simulations

It was amazing to see the 3d popping out when the device is moved around.

Similar would be possible on iPhone 4 with new game titles arriving in App Store. For the mean time, a game called Gun Range uses 3d gyroscope controls for a First person shooter game.

The gyroscope adds what seems like nearly 1:1 motion control to the proceedings — and since you’re moving the display itself, it almost feels like augmented reality. It’s hard to explain, since it’s so unlike any mobile UI experience we’ve encountered before, but as soon as we tried it our brains pretty much exploded with possibilities . I believe there could be endless possibilities to this and one of the foremost things I’m looking to experience is the augmented reality apps like Layar, all kinds of crazy flight simulator games, 3D augmentation games.

3D TVs have been around for a while. Last year, year 2010 was declared as the emergence of 3D TVs, so far, so true.

3D TV is great as long as there are no glasses attached. Of course over time we’ll see 3D TV without glasses, but what really is the Next Big thing? It’s the holographic Displays.

If you are a star wars fan, Holographic TV is no alien to you. Images are projected into air, space and its 3D. Holographic enthusiasts have rightly named it the “Stars Wars technology”.

On a holo-TV, images will be projected into the middle of a room as a “cloud” that can be enjoyed from every angle without 3-D glasses and still have its richness and depth. It’s the technology that has been interpolated very nicely in movies like G.I. Joe where people could teleport their 3D presence anywhere anytime and it feels as if the real person is right before your eyes.

Possibilities with Holographic TV

It may even be possible to broadcast concerts in other arenas around the world and to view live, lifesize sporting events in stadiums thousands of miles from the real players.

NHK, leader Broadcaster in Japan, has committed to creating the first holo-TV within six years.Research is underway at giant Japanese companies such as Sony and Mitsubishi. NHK is sponsoring the research and has even dispatched engineers to America, where scientists have already achieved success in generating first basic holographic transmissions.

The Work at University of Arizona has achieved single-coloured clouds of images using lasers and powerful computers and as per them, blending color and fluid movement was “closer than ever”.

Using holographic broadcasting over satellites, football games in Tokyo could be relayed to a London stadium where full-sized players would appear so life-like that fans would believe they were at the match.

NHK has invested $3.5 billion for developing holo-TVs, as part of of its plan to host Japan’s 2022 World Cup in Tokyo.

The research is lead by Jun Murai, a scientist known as “the father of the Japanese internet“.

It’s Bliss

Holo-TVs, unlike current gen TVs, would not be mounted on walls. They would resemble a small (low height) table laid on the floor, out of which Lasers would project the cloud into the middle of the room.

With the potential wires running under the carpet/floor, it won’t be tough to fill the Room with football match or Hollywood heroes, or filling the stadium with Football players, that don’t actually exist.

Google has acquired BumpTop, an application that turns your Mac and Windows Desktop into Rich 3D experience.

3D desktops can add a lot of utility to your multitasking. We’ve seen how we can get a 3D desktop on Ubuntu, Bumptop adds the third dimension to both Windows and Mac to make it look like a “Real world desktop”. You can create visual “piles” of files or stick notes to the wall, size design, layout everything is there after fully customizable. In addition, there’s also a cool search feature that’s invoked simply by typing.

Watch the video, Experience speaks for itself:

But wait a minute, What’s Google going to do with BumpTop?

Google hasn’t said anything about the deal yet. The most likely area seems to be its upcoming Chrome OS or even Android operating system for smartphones and more evidently the upcoming Chrome OS/Android Tablet PC.

BumpTop can give facelift to Android/Chrome OS’s interface giving it a step ahead of Apple’s iPad and iPhone.

BumpTop raised $1.65 million in funding. The acquisition price was probably between $35 and $40 million, confirmed figure is still unavailable.

Ironically, BumpTop was also part of Microsoft’s BizSpark program, which offers free software and mentoring to startups.

What is the way out?

At this year’s Cebit, 3D without Glasses was first demonstrated on LCD TVs. But we don’t carry TVs everywhere. We need a revolution in mobile 3d. Nintendo 3DS turns out to do that well. But how about a screen that could be used on almost all the gadgets?

Sharp is working on an LCD panel for mobile devices that can render images with the illusion of 3D without requiring viewers to wear special glasses. The Screens will be ready for shipment later this year.

How will 3D on Mobile would work?

To get the 3D illusion viewers would need to hold the screen about 30 cm in front of them, thats exactly the same distance at which a cell phone or digital camera is typically held. Provided the angle is correct, they will see an image that appears to have depth (3D), else the image appears to be blurred.

However, if there are multiple viewers and you wish to showcase an important object on your phone to everyone around you, the screen can be switched between 3D and conventional 2D modes. This is made possible with a “switchable” layer inside the screen, called a parallax barrier, that splits light from the screen and directs it towards the right or left eyes when energized.

The company demonstrated 3D still images and animation on the screens.

The panel is the product of just under 20 years of 3D research and development by Sharp. The company has tried to commercialize such displays several times since 2001 but each time they failed to gain widespread acceptance.

Sharp now believes the time and technology are right. The new touch-sensitive screen is 3.4 inches across the diagonal. It is twice as bright as the 2001 models, and has about four times the resolution.

The 3D LCD developed by Sharp at this time significantly improves image quality by achieving both high brightness and low crosstalk(2) thanks to advances in CG-Silicon technology(3) and optimization of the parallax barrier. Advances in CG-Silicon technology have shrunk the wiring width within the LCD panel, allowing more light to pass and doubling the brightness (to 500 cd/m2, the industry’s highest) compared to the conventional model(4).

Sharp has also developed a non-touchscreen 3D LCD and will start its mass production in the first half of fiscal 2010.

In the year of 3D, Google is not offbeat. The popular StreetView Maps now get a Anaglyph 3D imagery.

Since today is 1st april, I doubted if this was for real until I grabbed my 3D glasses. I couldn’t believe, it is 3D for sure. The depth of the 3D field is not all that huge, but when cruising in fullscreen, gives a delightful experience.

To get a glimpse of it yourself, Navigate to Google Streetview here or this one for Times Square in 3d and click on the Icon that shows the “man with the glasses” as highlighted below:

So this means google used Stereoscopic Cameras while shooting in streets, and kept it hidden until now.

Note: 3D without Glasses is a future thing, right now you need Anaglyph 3d glasses to view the above content. These are cheap paper glasses available at ebay, and local crafts stores. You can even make your own.

With the year 2010 being the year of Rising 3d, Nintendo has announced a new entry into its portable gaming rig: the Nintendo 3DS. This could be next step in mobile gaming, giving user 3D without glasses.

As per the Japanese press release, it will go on sale sometime between April 2010 – March 2011.

Here’s what we know so far: Specifications & Facts

Dual Screen: Just like Nitendo DS, it has 2 screens stacked up

You won’t need to wear 3D glasses to enjoy the 3D effects. The Nintendo 3DS uses the frontal camera to track the viewer eyes. By tracking the user’s eyes the machine can alter the perspective in the game to make it look as if the player is looking into a 3D virtual space.

Two cameras will be used for 3d manipulations

Games would be Backward compatible, will be incorporated for DS and DSi games.

High chance of featuring Accelerometer, just like iPhone.

The screen is much richer than DSi.

Hardware / Graphics/GPU: Nvidia Tegra, exact specs unknown.

Would support Rumble (vibrator)

It’s 3D gaming concept is pretty impressive, with 2 cameras: One each at front and back, it would be able to sense all movements and when accompanied by an accelerometer, it can pin point movements and your eye location to generate a perfect 3D perspective of the game.

Nintendo has a history of announcing hardware upgrades and features that may seem silly at first glance before going on to become huge success. Same was the case with Nintendo Wii : the Revolutionary WiiMote changes the way we played games and in fact motivated Sony to create PS3 Move. Let’s see how far Nintendo goes this time.

[via giz]

What is the way out?

At this year’s CeBIT, lots of manufacturers have come up with solutions to tackle the problem. Developers have found various kinds of solutions, the major ones being:

Attach an extra panel that projects 3D pictures correctly to 64 different positions, enough for most use cases.

Have camera as part of the display that locates your eyes in 3d space (X,y,z, coordinates) and then processes the alteration required to project sharp 3d images to your location.

Watch the Video to anticipate the concepts:

Most of these concepts may or may not go mainstream, but this is how the technology evolves. BluRay 3D is the Future but the user-end technology still needs to mature.

No doubt, 2010 is year of Stepping into 3D. The trend was well set during CES 2010 in Jan, there after we’ve seen a number of 3D HDTVs making their way to our home.

Keeping up to the speed, Acer has shown us some great 3D displays and now releases the H5360, a $900 ’3D Ready’ digital projector. The projector is certified by Nvidia’s 3D Vision (which means it has refresh rate high enough to interpolate stereoscopic image side-by-side), which gives it the name “3D”

Finally, I got a chance for Hands-on with this device with one of my friend. I used it over a span of 4-5 days and was more than impressed.

Overall Hardware

The H5360 comes in a great form-factor, the whole thing is bundled nicely into a, relatively, small package (26.8×19.2×8.0 cm) and weighs decent 2.2kg. Shiny white poly-carbon casing looks fabulous, fits smart-Rooms pretty-well.

Specifications:

Display Type: DLP (digital light processor)

Resolution: 720p (1280×720) Native, Compressed upto 1080p HD

Refresh rates: >120Hz

Colors: 1.07 billion

Brightness 2500 Lumens

Contrast Ratio: 3200:1

Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Native and 4:3 compatible

Power usage: 224 watts. Idle usage <1watt

The specs clearly mention that it runs 720p HD resolution natively and can interpolate 1080p, when forced. I must say at 720p it does a great job but 1080p, I was rather unhappy.

Features

H5360 has a good lens that can be adjusted for a zoom using a dial lever and Focus is adjusted using a notched ring. elevating the projector to the right angle and height is easy with rubberized stands, and there’s proper provision for wall, ceiling mounting as well.

All the connectors are placed conveniently at the back of the case: Analog RGB/Component, RCA, S-Video,3 RCA, HDMI, PC Audio stereo jack, Serial RS232 (Mini DIN). There’s a good inbuilt speaker too, that powers a 2watt RMS audio through it. with movies, Dialogues were loud and very clear.

The remote control that ships with it is pretty basic and easy to use. Usage angle extends practically to 130degrees, but real values depend upon positioning and size of the room.

Picture quality

When it comes to the real thing, it does it all brilliantly. the output was bright even in a well lit room. My test room had 4 CFLs powered from indirect sources(Havel’s 22watts). The projector managed to project a sharp and vibrant image during 720p video playback.

As far as 3D video is concerned, the device is fully certified by Nvidia for 3D vision. With 3D vision equipment connected, and original glasses put-on the experience was real-life. I was amazed to see IMAX level 3D effects at the convenience of home. I wish I could take a video in 3d to share the experience.

Taranfx Verdict

If you are a movie addict or a heavy gamer, waiting to explore the 3D space at an affordable price, this projector will satisfy all your senses. But yeah, you will need Nvidia Vision and supported graphics card before you can get “3d”. And if you would rather prefer a 2D FullHD projector on Cheap, check our DIY.

How innovative displays can get? Can it go to an extent where the actual pixels fly-up in the air to build up a visual display?

MIT Research SENSEable City Laboratory in collaboration with ARES Lab (Aerospace Robotics and Embedded Systems Laboratory) had been working to “transform any ordinary space into a highly immersive and interactive display environment.”

In its first implementation, the Flyfire project sets out to explore the capabilities of this display system by using a large number of self-organizing micro helicopters. Each helicopter contains small multicolored LEDs and acts as a smart pixel. Through precisely controlled movements, the helicopters perform elaborate and synchronized motions and form an elastic display surface for any desired scenario.

With the self-stabilizing and precise controlling technology from the ARES Lab, the motion of the pixels is adaptable in real time. The Flyfire canvas can transform itself from one shape to another or morph a two-dimensional photographic image into an articulated shape. The pixels are physically engaged in transitioning images from one state to another, which allows the Flyfire canvas to demonstrate a spatially animated viewing experience.

Flyfire serves as an initial step to explore and imagine the possibilities of this free-form display: a swarm of pixels in a space. There are couple of other videos that demonstrate the ideas, head over to Sensable.
