Folks at 9to5Google are reporting a new Google X project which is about a futuristic glasses.

The HUD glasses look like Oakley Thumps having a front-facing camera used to gather information and could aid in augmented reality apps. the camera can of course shoot pictures, even in the dark using a small flash. Camera is extremely small yet ranging upto few megapixels.

However, there are differences from a standard heads up display (HUD). This one is only for one eye. It is not transparent nor does it have dual 3D configurations. Among its cool features, the navigation system currently used is a head tilting-to scroll and click. We’ve leant that it is very quick to learn and once the user is adept at navigation, it becomes second nature and almost indistinguishable to outside users.

Not just that, you can control the glasses with voice input and output could also be voice. It is speculated that this device runs Android OS on an older generation hardware ~1GHz ARM A8, 256MB RAM and 8GB of storage. So it also a phone or perhaps can integrate well with phone in your pocket?

We can only speculate what it could become, but it already sounds awesome.

and yes, Motorola already demoed something related to 3d glasses at CES:

USB Host controller device profile enables your device to detect and attach other USB peripherals. E.g. with an Android Phone with USB host controller, you can connect USB pen drive, USB mass storage, external Printers, keyboards, mouse and what not.

XDA developer sztupy’s USB Host Controller takes advantage of native OTG Host functionality (available in many high-end Android devices) makes it easily accessible for the end user. The app is capable of showing the connected usb devices, and lets you mount external harddisks and connect as mass storage devices to the filesystem.
It does most of things very well and it has the ability to reload partition tables and reseting USB devices. It can also control the USB Host functionality of S5PC210 devices with the appropriate kernel patch.

USB Host API was made available for 3.x and above Android devices, but this app doesn’t depend on it and hence can run on older android 2.x devices, but requires root access.

If your device doesn’t have native USB OTG functionality, there are kernel patches for some older devices to enable the functionality, most notably for:

5PC210 based Samsung phones (Galaxy S, Captivate, Nexus S)

QSD8250 based HTC phones (G1, Nexus One, Desire, Incredible)

You can find appropriate kernel drivers for these phones here:
- Hummingbird / Samsung phones
- Snapdragon / HTC phones

USB Host Controller mode on Samsung Galaxy S [Video]:

App ran well on Galaxy S, galaxy SII, Galaxy Note in our tests.

To give it a try, download USB Host controller from Android Market.

Power users love to play with their Android phones and often they experiment installing Linux flavors on their Android phones.

XDA developer mnomaanw has successfully installed Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows XP and Linux on HTC EVO 3D in a fairly easy process. To summarize, all a user needs to do is download the required software, modify a file or two and run the apk. And it boots into Windows.

This Windows port for Phones is one of the best ever. It does fair justice to the hardware buttons, touchscreen by giving you fairly easy controls.

How to Install Windows 95, 98, XP on Android Phone: HTC EVO 3D

Pre-requisites: Windows 95/98/XP Image: ISO or .IMG. (IMG preferred and tested).
Step 1. Download bochs.apk [mirror] and SDL.zip [mirror]. Put SDL.zip on root of sdcard/
Step 2. Put the Windows 95/98/XP disk image .img/.iso [(need to change setting in bochsrc.txt accordingly (iso not tested yet)] of any operating system in SDL folder and rename it to “c.img”.
Step 3. Run Bochs apk. Let it boot (takes a while) and enjoy.

Note: Use this bochsrc.txt to use a folder called “HDD” on your sdcard as a drive in windows. Replace the original bochsrc.txt withthe one stated before. Further updates on xda thread.

Instructions for input controls are as follows:

To emulate touchpad on touchscreen and left/right mouse buttons on volume

You can also click touch screen to generate mouse left button click.(this does not work everytime)

Back = BackSpace, Menu = Enter, left-upper corner click generates TAB

left-lower corner click popups keyboard

Network Spoofer lets you run arpspoof attacks and other fun hacks from Android, messing with your Wifi internet from your phone, just like WifiKill can kick users from Wifi.

Note: This app is just for fun, it doesn’t cause any damages to anyone other than annoyance. Use it with precaution.

The project is similar to the Upside-down-ternet project: from the phone you can flip pictures on someone’s computer upside down. There are couple of fun things you can do with this app. It lets you:

Flip pictures on someone’s PC.

Change Google searches keywords,

redirect websites to some other sites,

and many more features to come.

App works well in combination with Shark for Android – combined they allow you to capture packets when logged onto wifi networks.

Simply install from the Android Market (on a rooted device running >2.2), and download the setup files from the application. This requires about 600MB free SD card space. The program needs the phone to be rooted, and have busybox (most custom firmwares have this).

An Android device say e.g. Android tablet might be shared by multiple users and obviously, everyone wants a different profile/user to configure things as per there likes/dislikes. In other cases, you might need clean user profiles that provide an android environment which is totally different from another reason.

SwitchMe lets Android users switch User accounts, Profiles just like they can do it on a Windows, Mac OS X PC. SwitchMe allows users to create profiles specific to their needs. Those profiles are saved, can be loaded whenever and users can create new profiles that are on whole new installations on Android.

SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer. The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.

You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps, others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
The uses for such an app are plentiful, as ftgg99 explains:

Privacy – the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.

Testing – if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.

Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.

Speed – the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.

Battery life – when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.

You can download it from Android Market for free.

Android is the most secure mobile smartphone OS in the market today, thanks to the inherent sandboxing inspired from world’s most secure browser: Chrome.

Such security is really consumer grade, its secure in the real world but may not be secure enough for driving Top most secret tasks like the ones Government agencies like NSA is involved with.

The National Security Agency (NSA) released the first version of their custom build of Google’s popular OS, called Security Enhanced Android. The system is designed to minimize the impact of security holes on Android. The SEAndroid project is enabling the use of SELinux in Android in order to limit the damage that can be done by flawed or malicious apps.

SEAndroid is born with robust support for:

Per-file security labeling support for yaffs2,

Filesystem images (yaffs2 and ext4) labeled at build time,

Kernel permission checks controlling Binder IPC,

Labeling of service sockets and socket files created by init,

Labeling of device nodes created by ueventd,

Flexible, configurable labeling of apps and app data directories,

Userspace permission checks controlling use of the Zygote socket commands,

Minimal port of SELinux userspace,

SELinux support for the Android toolbox,

Small TE policy written from scratch for Android,

Confined domains for system services and apps,

Use of MLS categories to isolate apps.

You can integrate SEAndroid into your own Custom ROM. First, you should make sure that you are able to successfully download, build and run the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) source code by following the instructions starting from http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html

Once you have successfully built and run AOSP, you can obtain a local manifest specifying the SE Android git trees from http://selinuxproject.org/~seandroid/local_manifest.xml. Copy this file to the .repo subdirectory of your AOSP clone, and then run repo sync. Your tree should now include the SE Android modifications. For further dev info, visit the official Wiki.

So you’re on a public computer and you need to access the desktop Gmail so badly but you’re really scared of entering your password on a public computer. Its fair to be scared, it might have a keylogger installed and incognito mode just won’t help.

Google has launched a new way to authorize and login with your credentials without actually logging in with password or keyboard onto any PC. It’s called Sesame.

How Google Gmail Sesame Authentication Works

It’s simple: Remote Autherization from your mobile. You personal mobile device’s browser is already logged-In with your Google credentials.

Step 1. Go ahead and Open http://accounts.google.com/sesame on the desktop browser where you need to access your gmail / google account.

Step 2. Launch your barcode scanner and scan the QR code that appears on /sesame. You’ll be asked to authenticate the PC for access to your Google / Gmail account.

You’ll automagically be logged into the Desktop PC. Remote authorization at its best!

Founders of Siri, Nuance communications, have launched an Official app for Android and its called Dragon Go!

Of course it’s from the Siri founders, it would be the best one out there on Android.

Dragon Go is not exactly a personal assistant but its the as best as it can get. You can do more in less time like buy movie tickets as you walk into the theater, go shopping at local boutiques while you wait for your nails to dry, settle a bet at the breakfast table on the square root of Pi, or plan and invite guests to that night’s happy hour – all with just one ask of Dragon Go!

The app runs on Andorid 2.1 and above. In our tests we used android 2.3.6 on Galaxy Note and it works seamlessly with american and asian accents.

You can ask Dragon Go! all sorts of questions. Just like Siri, these audio queries are processed by Nuance’s servers and then sent to appropriate services such as Wolfram|Alpha, YouTube, AccuWeather, Dictionary.com, Last.fm, Pandora, IMDB, Wikipedia, Yelp, Google, Rotten Tomatoes and Fandango, etc. In all, Dragon Go! accesses 200+ services in order to query and return with responses that are actually logical.

Drag go, doesn’t integrate with Native Google apps, yet, but in future they do plan to. As of now, you can still make calls, find directions, and send texts. Whats coming is alarms, emails and mode.

Unfortunately, the app is limited to US only, available via Market: Download Dragon Go!

But you can still download it outside US by directly downloading the Dragon Go APK or use Market Enabler to fake to a US carrier like “USA T-Mobile” and then onwards, its visible in your android market.

We’ve talked about P2P multiplayer games over Wifi, bluetooth, internet between different android devices. But If you’ve two android devices (Phone, tablet, or TV) you can even use one of them as a Gamepad to control Games on the other using Bluetooth.

The app is called BT Controller and is available for free. Initial setup is easy and quick, within seconds you can start playing the games across android devices. BTController turns your Android device into a bluetooth gamepad, allowing you to remotely control emulator games running on another device (the host).

Of course, BT Controller must be installed and running on both the devices – the host as well as the controller. At the time of writing, the app only works with a handful of game emulators, and supports controlling one Android device with the other over Bluetooth connection only, but support is extending.

BT Controller already works with various Emulators for Mame, Playstation, CPS2 and N64 games:

Games supported: Riptide GP

Emulators:

DroidEmuLite

Snesoid

Nesoid

Gensoid

N64oid

FPse [PSX]

Tiger Arcade [CPS2]

Mupen64Plus, AE [N64]

Mame4Droid [Mame]

For full list and downloading the app, goto app on android market.

The app also supports haptic feedback which can also be disabled.

But Lenovo has chosen a slightly different path by not choosing official Google TV 2.0 aka Android Honeycomb 3.x, it instead customized ICS to fit TV form factor. It will of course get access to Android Market, and its own Market, but things aren’t announced.

Lenovo’s K91 offers plenty of attractive features other than Google’s latest OS:

CPU: Qualcomm’s 8060 Snapdragon processor, clocked at 1.5 Ghz, with a decent GPU.

1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage and 2 GB SD card, of course expandable.

Two screen size to choose from: 42” and 50” 3-D LED screen.

Integrated 5 MP webcam, for facial recognition. Why would you need that? Parental control, of course.

For gaming, you’ll get a 3-axis gyro gamepad. The regular remote will have a touchpad as well as an integrated microphone, and voice recognition will make it possible to control the devices without pressing any buttons at all. Xbox’s dream applied here!

Lenovo is also launching a Cloud service for its TVs, laptops that will allow TV to stream personal media stored in the cloud. USers would be able to share media and do screen sharing across mobile, PC and TV devices.

It sures like an attractive thing to go for. Lenovo would initially launch it in China, and later make it available to the world, later this year.

Game developers initially struggled to bring “real” gaming experiences to smartphone, but now we actually see some First person shooter doing well on iOS & Android smartphones, Tablets.

The traditional first-person shooter genre finally looks to have matured on the mobile platforms and Modern Combat 3, among the best we’ve ever seen on any mobile platform.

(click on images for fullsize screenshot from 720p HD Android phone)

Modern Combat 3 Fallen Nation and Frontline Commando arrived on Android, after being released on iOS. Definitely these games raise the bar for smartphone shooters.

Gameloft’s Modern Combat 3 Fallen Nation ($6.99) brings the Call of Duty experience to Android phones with nearly a GB of game data download post-apk installation.

Storyline
The storyline, thin as it is, follows that splinter extremist groups from North Korea, Pakistan and Russia have banded together to form the “KPR,” and somehow managed to take over a large swath of the United States. As a member of Phantom Squad, the player undertakes a variety of high-risk covert missions to help turn the tide.

Gameplay, Controls
Playing a FPS on mobile screen can be challenging. You would really need a large display like the one we used here was 5.3″ to make more room for controls and display. Overall, the controls are very sensitive but there is a lag that can make playing game a challenge in fast-aim-shooting scenarios. I think Gameloft understands this problem well, Touchscreens (~50-100ms) are not as fast as your joysticks or keyboards (~5ms) on desktops, and that’s why guns can auto-aim when your gun points close to the target.
We didn’t play much with controller settings, but we did get better results by reducing the sensitivity of controls. That way, we avoided overshooting the orientation.

Graphics
What the game lacks in originality it makes up for in sheer quality. But make no mistake, MC3 is extremely derivative and offers up virtually nothing FPS fans haven’t seen before. The game runs off a proprietary Gameloft engine and looks absolutely fantastic. More importantly, on dual core phones, and tablets, the action remains fast and silky smooth throughout. When playing on an Hummingbird processor or equivalent single-core 1ghz, experience is distracting.

I’ve to admit, this game has the best Physics, motion graphics ever delivered to a game on a smartphone. For our tests, Galaxy Note gave us a good framerate with high detail. We presume game doesn’t run on phone’s native resolution (~ 1280×800) but the graphics were Rich and detailed to the degree we can expect it to deliver a Rich FPS experience.

Audio
We tested the audio with out AudioTechnica M50 headphones. Audio effects in the game are realistic, the gun shots, the explosions, foot steps, everything was detailed to a level we can appreciate. The music and dialogues are clear and easy to distinguish. Audio did seem to use some sort of surround effect, like EAX that we’ve on desktops, but we can be wrong.

Official MC3 Trailer

Linux OS, with time, is emerging as a fairly popular Operating System.

There was time when Desktop PC was considered to be the major part of the Computers segment. Times have changed, thanks to new powerful Clouds and computing grids, servers now form a big part of the computers.

On Desktop PCs, Windows is still holds the majority, followed by OSX which forms around 10% of the desktop market. But 2011 and 2012 are the years of smartphones and tablets, a domain where Windows has failed to compete with Linux based OS: Android.

In this article, we will cover the Linux Growth rate, Trends, Infographics for recent years.

Best metrics for popularity of an OS are Virus and the Games. Both of them are on the rise for Linux. Lets look at how Linux is doing in each computing segment.

Linux in Desktop PCs

Windows wins here, Linux loses by a large margin. Linux Desktop market share is nearly 0.83% where as Microsoft Windows 7 claims the major share of 42.65% while the other releases of Windows XP and Vista claim 36.44% and 10.88%. However, beyond these numbers, the trend is somewhat bright for Linux. In the beginning of 2011, Linux was only 0.74% which rose to 0.83% by the end of the year. Its slow, but its going up. Same goes for OSX, but windows share is gradually falling.

Linux in Servers

Windows servers lead in the market share over Linux Servers but the trend is shifting towards Linux flavors. First quarter of 2010 in terms of units sold, Windows had a 75.3% market share, (1,379,487 units) compared to 20.8% for Linux (380,429 units) and 3.6% (65,451 units) for Unix.

When it comes to revenue, as you would expect, Windows Server-based systems have an even bigger lead. In the fourth quarter, Windows servers accounted for 48.9% of the market ($5.1 billion), compared to 16.2% ($1.7 billion) for Linux, and 22.2% ($2.3 billion) for Unix.

The truth is, both Windows and Linux will continue to thrive in the server market, and Windows will continue to dominate. Linux fans may like to think they’ll dethrone Windows, but this latest report is one more piece of evidence that’s not likely to happen.

Linux in Mobile devices: Smartphones, Tablets

2011 & 2012 are years of Mobile. People use smartphones more than they use desktops, so it s the most important OS of all.

In nutshell, Smartphone market is divided into Android, iOS or Blackberry. Android is based on the Linux Kernel and is by far the most popular smartphone OS in the world, with Symbian on the steep fall. According to the Global Stat Counter, Android took off with a 13.6% market share in December 2010 and rose to market share of 21.83% by the end of 2011. The numbers speaks for itself, Google is activating 700,000 new devices everyday, this doesn’t include unofficial, non-market android devices.

For iOS its started with 23.57% and went down to 22% of mobile OS share in 2011. Windows is no where to be seen.

Linux has already won over Windows, smartphones alone take Linux market share to be higher than no. of windows PCs. Android is growing with over millions of apps for the OS already available in the appMarket, with 400,000 apps already.

Mobile OS usage:

Though 2011 was another year for iPad, the tech world witnessed some very fine Android Honeycomb devices; namely Samsung Galaxy Tab, ASUS Transformer, ASUS Transformer Prime, Motorola Xoom and ASUS Slider. And in the horde of tablets (about 45 notable tablets) there were only 5 tablets to have Windows OS, and unfortunately all of them failed to find any place in market. Tablets in 2011 aided with Windows OS were HP Slate 500, ASUS Eee Slate, Fujitsu Stylistic, MSI WindPad 110W and Acer Iconia W500.

Here’s an Infographic for Growth of Linux in last 20 years, every milestone detailed:

You can already use an iPad as Secondary extended Monitor, and now you can use Android Tablet, Phone as secondary display.

Adding Multiple monitors to your setup definitely increases productivity. But it can get all tricky without use of the right software. That’s why we had prepared a list of Best Dual, Multi-Monitor Software for your PC, Mac.

ScreenSlider allows you to utilize your Android display to extend the monitor and drag your cursor through the air rather magically from display to tablet/smartphone. All you need is a Windows PC (mac osx soon) and Android tablet /phone connected to same Wifi.

How to Install & configure ScreenSlider on Android

Step 1: Purchase ScreenSlider ($1) from the Android Market. Once installed, request a download link for the ScreenSlider desktop client by giving them your e-mail address.

Step 2: Launch ScreenSlider on your Android Tablet, phone and enter a unique device name. And on the PC, Right-click the ScreenSlider icon in the System Tray and select Find devices. Double click your device in the list once it appears.

Step 3: Next, you’ll be prompted to pair your device. Enter the code displayed on your Android in order to pair device and PC.

The app is not perfect, there are glitches and its bit laggy. However, it should improve over time.

Your carrier may offer you unlimited 3G, LTE data service as long as its used on the phone, but the moment you try tethering it your PC / laptop, they start charging for it or worse, limit the data.

Koushik dutta, a developer, has figured out a way to bypass this Tether detection used by AT&T, sprint, and others. He released an app which offers user “undetectable tethering” and the app is called ClockworkMod Tether Alpha.

ClockworkMod Tether doesn’t need your Android phone to be rooted, and allows Windows, Mac and Linux users to utilize the 3G or 4G LTE connection of an Android as if it were a proxy, as opposed to a Wifi/ usb access point router. Technically, it actually spoof carriers checking for the TTL (Time To Live) data coming from a desktop, which is unique for every OS. It modifies the IP packets transferring from PC and changes the TTL values in the TCP/IP header.

The computer app installs a virtual connection which understands how to communicate with the proxy on the phone.

However, app will self-destruct on 7th January 2012 in order to encourage users to purchase the paid the version. Bluetooth tethering is also in the pipeline.

Go ahead and try the Alpha version from here on Google+ post.

Modern Android games let you play Multiplayer games over bluetooth, Wifi, Wifi Direct and even over the Internet via 3g / LTE / Wifi. These can be P2P games over the WLAN or over WAN (across the globe).

Here’s our list of best Multiplayer games on Android.

1. UNO has multiplayer via wifi or bluetooth. A classic card game for android.

2. Reckless Racing has online multiplayer, but not wifi. Not sure how difficult it would be to organize a game with predetermined participants.

It’s Micro Machines for the Android! Reckless Racing offers adrenaline-fueled gameplay with a slick top-down camera. Players make their way through a variety of circuits and tracks against friends and rivals.

3. Raging Thunder is even cross-platform online racing game thats fun on iOS, Android.

This cross-platform racing game allows you to go head to head online against three other racers in an arcade-style setting. Like the Need for Speed series for the console, you can also perform time trials or race against CPU-controlled opponents.
The lite version—which is free—for the Android should be enough to tide you over while you’re on the bus or the train.
Although every race is fairly short, allowing you to play it in quick bursts, It will be difficult to stop playing the game once it has its grips on you.

4. With Minecraft you can host and join LAN games. Have yet to test this out even though my daughter and I both bought this.

5. UniWar looks like a turn-based strategy game with multiplayer online capabilities.

6. Ship Combat Multiplayer
Destroy ships before enemy sinks yours!
ShipCombat Multiplayer is a free addictive game that keeps you entertained during your spare time. The game is based on the classic pen & paper battleships game. Cool features makes it different from similar games in the market.

7. Mini Squadron is a mini shooter game thats fun and has LAN multiplayer.

8. N.O.V.A. 2 HD (FPS) looks like it has what you want.

9. Pocket Legends

Pocket Legends earned critical acclaim from a variety of tech sites, including Mashable and PocketGamer for offering a good massively multiplayer experience for gamers on the go.
Players choose their character, develop their abilities and journey into a variety of dungeons alongside other players in this cooperative online game. You need not apply for a World of Warcraft subscription or own a PC to get your game on.

10. Modern Combat 2

Few first person shooters make their way onto the platform, but one of them—Modern Combat 2, from Gameloft—manages to stand apart from the rest by offering an experience that should resonate with anyone who’s ever played a Call of Duty game on the console.

Arguably a rip-off of the more popular Call of Duty series, Modern Combat 2 offers experience levels, modes and achievements. It’s surprising Activision that didn’t come up with it first.

11. Starfront: Collision HD

It looks, feels, and plays like StarCraft, but until we see a StarCraft game ported to the Android, Starfront: Collision will have to satiate our hunger for a good RTS.

Like the much better StarCraft on the PC and Mac, Starfront: Collision offers three distinct races, each with their own campaign, and four-player multiplayer over Gameloft Live, where players can do battle against other players in one vs one, or cooperate in two vs two.

12. Dungeon Defenders: First, Second Wave

Dungeon Defenders is not exactly Diablo for the Android. More than that, it’s Diablo meets Tower Defense. Free on the Android Market, Dungeon Defenders offers support for cooperative four player multiplayer.

Players must build a defense while fighting off hordes of invading monsters with their personal characters. Additionally, the game also offers Player vs Player match-ups for competitive gamers.

This game will be making its way to Steam later this year in full fledged form.

13. Dungeon Hunter 2

It’s no Torchlight, but it certainly comes close. Gameloft’s Dungeon Hunter 2 is a fantastic action RPG that marries Diablo with the portability of the Android mobile.

Dungeon Hunter 2 offers a loot farming, with a streamlined system of character building. Like Torchlight and Diablo, the game is populated with randomized dungeons.

14. Words With Friends

Words With Friends is Scrabble without the name. You can connect with friends through Facebook, the iPhone and just about every other platform the game exists on thanks to Zynga’s extensive reach.

15. Guerilla Bob

Guerilla Bob was first released on the iOS to critical acclaim. Offering slick controls and sweet action-based gameplay, Guerilla Bob is a homage to classic action games like Take No Prisoners and Mageslayer.

Guerilla Bob and his pals take on hordes of “infected” (zombies, really) characters throughout the maps in cooperative multiplayer. Owners of the game on the Android can also join forces with friends on the iPhone thanks to the cross-platform capability. The game is even available on the Xperia Play with twin-stick controls.

16. HomeRun Battle 3D – Runs across iOS, Android, Multiplayer game peer-to-peer over LAN.

Galaxy Tab 7 was the first to get the Android 4.0 aka ICS and Galaxy Tab 8.9 seems to be the next, takin the lead from Galaxy tab 10.1.

The work on custom ROM has been done by one of the XDA developers.

Note: As one could expect, its buggy but works. Most of the stuff works but camera, 3G, HD & voice search does not work at the moment. But updates would be available soon.

Pre-requisite:

Your Galaxy Tab 8.9 should be rooted and have Custom recovery like ClockworkMod.

ROM Manager (Market)

Download: Android 4.0.3 ICS for Galaxy Tab 8.9 [MultiUpload]

ICS Google Apps [MultiUpload]

Copy above files to /sdcard directory, after downloading.

How To Install ICS on Galaxy Tab 8.9

Step 1: Open ROM Manager and click Reboot to Recovery.

Step 2. From Recovery, select wipe data / factory reset. Also wipe cache, Dalvik cache.

Step 3: To flash zip from sdcard, choose install zip from sdcard > icyxmas.p5wifi.cwm.alpha1.1.zip.

Once this is flashed, select flash icygappsv2.zip. and when done, reboot.

And you should have Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich on your Galaxy Tab 8.9.

Step 4: (optional) You can overclock Galaxy Tab as it runs a modified Kernel. Use SetCPU or Antutu or NoFrills app from market to overclock.

Also check out the official thread on XDA.

ICS 4.0.3 would become the base for all the custom and official ROMs that would make to the android phones and tablets near you.

Its been only weeks since Ice cream Sandwich 4.0.3 was open sourced but, already, several Custom ROMs have been hitting various developer sites. We had a chance to try few of them, they already appear to be baked.

We tried 4 of the first Android 4.0.3 based ROMs that we could find for the LTE version. There is a CyanogenMod 9 kang, the RootzBoat from our boy Birdman, and some Gummy love from Kejar who you all know from the Liberty series and of course, our favorite MIUI

Best Navigation apps are already there on Android and iOS as native apps, but what about the browser?
TeleNav has developed world’s first and state of the Art HTML 5 based Turn-by-turn navigation system that can run on any modern mobile web browser.

TeleNav’s native apps have been doing this for a while but the HTML 5 browser based webapp uses HTML5 location APIs along with Offline caching. The service would be free and is known to run on iOS, Android and WP7.

At the time of writing, its available to a group of developers, who can add TeleNav’s voice-guided GPS by plugging in a single line of code into their websites or apps. It would soon be released to commercial users.

We’ll let you know when its available, in the meantime you check the best Navigation app ever.

“This is an enormous amount of added value for any mobile, location-based website or app focused on travel, shopping, local search, deals and more,” said Sal Dhanani, co-founder and vice president of products for TeleNav. “With one line of code, you can give your customers one-click access to premium, voice-guided turn-by-turn directions to any location, including hotels, restaurants, merchants or deal locations. Customers never need to leave your app.”

TeleNav would like to partner with select developers to test the service. Interested mobile website publishers and app developers can apply for early access by visiting TeleNav’s website at www.telenav.com/developer/HTML5.

TeleNav expects to publicly launch its HTML5 service in early 2012. Consumers will not need to be current TeleNav customers but will need to have an HTML5-compatible feature phone or smartphone.

Android Market automatically restricts incompatible, un-supported apps, games from being installed on android phone / tablet. This is justified seeing that there are so many different flavor of SoCs from various hardware manufacturers that beautifully run Android.

Games use hardware acceleration with efficient Native C/c++ code. This code is often optimized for the platform and hence incompatible with others. But often, developers don’t allow relatively less compatible phones to maintain higher quality apps, and hence better rating. However, you can skip this compatibility check by spoofing your phone to be Google Nexus S. Google, by default, allows all apps to run on it’s developer phone: Nexus S.

How to Install Incompatible, Unsupported Apps from Android Market

Pre-requisite: Your android phone must be Rooted.

Step 1. Clear Market Cache & Data. Settings > Applications > All > Market > Clear data.

Step 2. Install Prop Editor from here.
or scan:

Take backup of existing build.prop file.

Step 3. Open Prop Editor click on build.prop and look for following keys and enter values corresponding to them, manually:

ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
ro.build.fingerprint=google/soju/crespo:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/release-keys
ro.build.description=soju-user 2.3.4 GRJ22 121341 release-keys

The last one is not always required.

Step 4. When done, press menu > save. Reboot phone.

Step 5. Launch Market and search for the app, your phone should be detected as Nexus S and all apps will be visible.

After making it to every closed Tablet OS, Android Market is now ready to be installed on Blackberry PlayBook.

How to Install Android Market on PlayBook

Video:

Step-by-step Instructions:

Step 1: Install PlayBook OS 2.0 Beta on your PlayBook.

Step 2: Root/Jailbreak BlackBerry PlayBook using DingleBerry

Step 3: Download Google Apps zip package from the popular CyanogenMod Wiki.

Step 4: Package android app as a .bar file, install and launch it to set things up. Consider installing a launcher app since it will be required later on to actually launch Market. Get one from here.

Step 5: Using WinSCP for Windows, log into your BlackBerry PlayBook as root. Copy the system folder from Google Apps in Step 3 to the root of your PlayBook’s storage and merge it with the PlayBook’s own system folder.

Step 6: Using a terminal with root access, enter the following commands:

mv /system/app/SetupWizard.apk /system/app/SetupWizard.apk.bak

Step 7: You must now kill the Android Player with:

cd /apps/sys.android.XXXX.ns/native/scripts

and then run ./android-player-cmd.sh kill-android-core.sh

The XXXX above is different for each device.
