We respect him for being the biggest innovator of the century, revolutionizing the User Experience in consumer electronics, forever. But its true, no one is perfect.</p>
<p><a href="http://geeknizer.com/tag/steve-jobs">Steve Jobs</a>&#8216; official biography talks about several dark sides of Steve Jobs, which none of us probably heard about before. He was capable of incredible cruelty, total self-delusion, ruthless competitiveness, arrogance, and a beehive of <strong>stealing ideas</strong>.  It&#8217;s probably the most raw profile the world has ever seen on Jobs &#8211; for better, or for worse.  And it also offers a rather naked commentary about success.</p>

<p><strong>1. Copy Innovation</strong></p>
<p>Steve said that he was ready to go “thermonuclear” war on Android, an operating system he saw as a “stolen product.” Truth be discussed, <em>what did Android really copy from iOS</em>? The interface and the OS architecture are quiet different from each other. Its like comparing Mac OS to Linux, both have similar underlying Unix, everything else is different: Kernel, framework, libraries, JVM vs. Native framework, UI and Touch interfaces. Even if some of it is similar, Android was developed independently by a startup named Android under supervision of Andy Rubin. It was later acquired by Google and modified for good.</p>
<p>For a moment, lets assume Android was a copy. Was Macintosh not a copy of Xerox&#8217;s OS ? Steve shamelessly copied each aspect of Xerox&#8217;s User Interface and called it Mac OS. Steve J. agrees he copied, why in the world is he so furious about Android copying iOS?</p>

<p><strong>2. Steal the Credit, and never be humble</strong></p>
<p>Steve Jobs was famous for stealing the credit of his subordinates. Apple&#8217;s famous designer, Jonathan Ive, was frustrated because Steve was constantly taking credit for his ideas.  It was a recurring problem, with incredibly talented executives complaining that Jobs took all the credit for Apple&#8217;s game-changing innovations.  &#8220;I pay maniacal attention to where an idea comes from, and I even keep notebooks filled with my ideas,&#8221; Ive said.  &#8220;So it hurts when he takes credit for one of my designs.&#8221;</p>
<p>Perhaps the worst story surrounds Daniel Kottke, who was there with Jobs at Reed College, travelled with him in India, and was one of the first Apple employees in the garage.  But when Apple went public, Jobs refused to give him any shares because of his technical status within the company &#8211; despite the protests of other high-ranking employees.</p>
<p>Kottke was unfortunately subdued and didn&#8217;t push &#8211; until it became too much.  &#8220;And at one point, [Kottke] tries to go to Steve and just starts crying,&#8221; Isaacson told 60 Minutes.  &#8220;But Steve can be very cold about these things.  Finally, one of the engineers at Apple said, you know, &#8216;We have to take care of your buddy Daniel.  I&#8217;ll give him some stock, if you match it or whatever.&#8217;  And Jobs says, &#8216;Yeah, I&#8217;ll match it.  I&#8217;ll give zero, you give zero.&#8217;&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>3. Bad Son, Poor Father</strong></p>
<p>This may be on the personal side, but its not to be ignored. Steve Jobs never met his Biological father.</p>
<p>In 1978, Steve Jobs had a daughter (his first) with girlfriend Chrisann Brennan, a painter.  Jobs adamantly refused paternity, though a judge ultimately forced Jobs to pay support.</p>
<p>When Lisa was young, Steve, her father, almost never came to see her.  &#8216;I didn&#8217;t want to be a father, so I wasn&#8217;t,&#8217; Jobs said, with only a touch of remorse in his voice.&#8221;</p>

<p>Jobs submitted his resignation letter to Apple&#8217;s board of directors today,  even though most investors and apple fans believe its impossible to run the company without him. Apple has been driven by his charismatic vision and leadership. Jobs was the master mind behind all successful Apple products: iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac and what not.</p>
<p>He has been unwell and taken time off rom his regular work, during which Tim Cook had handled the company. He was rightly named <a href="http://geeknizer.com/steve-jobs-ceo-of-the-decade-fortune/">CEO of the decade</a>.</p>
<p>He is idol for generations to come, we wish him the very best</p>

<p>I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple&#8217;s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.</p>
<p>I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.</p>
<p>As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.</p>

<p>Apple had already taken the first step with <a href="http://geeknizer.com/tag/osx-lion">OSX Lion</a> where it dropped the &#8220;Mac&#8221; branding and brought iOS like launcher for system wide apps. Of course there are more features like switching between apps that is iOS inspired, but its far from being exactly like iOS.</p>
<p>One of the investors has made the claim of Apple&#8217;s upcoming integration of all OSes in 2012. He claims that merging the two OS would lead to “synergies,” including better gross margins and an ease in licensing of content. Imagine the possibilities and convenience it can bring &#8212; Same app running on all platforms, tuned just for different screen sizes. With iCloud coming, it makes even more sense. Apple customers would be able to then experience TV shows and movies and such, stored in the company’s “<a href="http://geeknizer.com/icloud-features-handson-video/" target="_blank">iCloud</a>,” across phone, tablet, or, eventually, Apple TV, and get the same licensed content.</p>
<p>“Users want to be able to pick up any iPhone, iPad, or Mac (or turn on their iTV) and have content move seamlessly between them and be optimized for the user and the device currently being used&#8221;, all of that is possible, but it would be better done with all platforms unified from ground-up into a single OS.</p>
<blockquote><p>“<strong>We believe Apple is looking to merge iOS (iPhones/iPads) with OS X (Macs) into a single platform</strong> for apps and cloud services starting in 2012-13.”</p></blockquote>
<p>Misek says that Macbook Air would get Apple’s next processor “<strong>A6</strong>”  in the 2nd half of 2012. A6 would debut first in late 2012 or 2013 in  “<strong>iPad 3</strong>” or &#8220;<strong>iPad 4</strong>&#8221; (assuming iPad 3 comes in Q4 2011), and in the “<strong>iPhone 5</strong>” next summer. The upcoming iPhone would be just called <strong>iPhone 4S</strong>.</p>
<p>If he&#8217;s to be trusted, Macbook Pro would, however, run OSX till 2016, as Apple provides a smoother curve for Professionals to migrate to iOS styled desktops. <strong>A6 processors</strong> would be <strong>quad core</strong> and would be first System on a chip to run both on DEsktop and mobile platforms.</p>
<p>This unified OS would pave way to boost in sales for both the devices alike. The idea seems very much possible, we&#8217;ll have to wait for a year to see where its heading.</p>

The latest hack is very interesting as he had made it possible to hack  MacBook using the battery, alone.</p>
<p>Modern Laptop battery contains its own monitoring circuit which reports the status of the battery to the OS. The circuit is also responsible for preventing battery from overcharging, this comes handy when the laptop is switched off.</p>
<p>The scurity researcher has discovered that the batteries on Macbooks are shipped with the default password on the micro-controller. It can be inferred that if someone knows the default password, the firmware of the battery can be controlled to do many things from simply ruining the battery to install a malware which reinstalls whenever the OS boots. Since you gain access to the micro-controller that controls the battery, it becomes actually possible to overuse and overheat the battery to a limit where it can even catch fire.</p>
<p>Miller claims this hack can make the hacker achieve something that was unachievable before &#8212;  it’s possible to use them to do something really bad &#8211; Insert a new Hard drive, reinstall the software, flash the BIOS, and every time it would reattack and screw the user. And the worse part, it undetectable and impossible to  eradicate other than removing the battery.</p>
<p>Apple released a fix in 2009 to fix problems by creating two passwords used for the chip on the battery. By hacking that password, its possible to do anything like giving false reading to the charger and let it overcharge to cause fire, or to completely rewrite the firmware.</p>
<p><strong>Hack is Not Easy</strong></p>
<p>Luckily enough, miller hasn&#8217;t made all details public. He claims that to successfully exploit this vulnerability,  attacker has to analyze the 2009 software updates from Apple for the password. If he is able to retrieve the password, he will have to find a vulnerability in the interface between the OS and the firmware.</p>
<p>But these details would be made public at te yearly security conference, BlackHat. He will also be unveiling a tool to public that will change the password of the battery to a random string. Hope Apple releases a fix before that.</p>

<p>Apple has won against the HTC in a lawsuit where ITC has identified that HTC had infringed two of its patents. It was found to have infringed two of 10 Apple patents originally asserted in the case. However, HTC will “vigorously fight these two remaining patents through an appeal before the ITC commissioners who make the final decision,”</p>
<p>However, the point worth noting here is that this brings almost whole of android platform into trouble as <strong>Patents appear to be at the core of Android and are likely infringed by all Android devices.</strong></p>
<p><strong>The Patents:</strong></p>
<p>The 2 patents are:</p>

<li><a href="http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;d=PALL&amp;p=1&amp;u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;s1=5,946,647.PN.&amp;OS=PN/5,946,647&amp;RS=PN/5,946,647">U.S. Patent No. 5,946,647</a> on a &#8220;system and method for performing an action on a structure in computer-generated data&#8221; (in its complaint, Apple provides examples such as the recognition of &#8220;phone numbers, post-office addresses and dates&#8221; and the ability to perform &#8220;related actions with that data&#8221;; one example is that &#8220;the system may receive data that includes a phone number, highlight it for a user, and then, in response to a user&#8217;s interaction with the highlighted text, offer the user the choice of making a phone call to the number&#8221;)</li>
<li><a href="http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;d=PALL&amp;p=1&amp;u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;s1=6,343,263.PN.&amp;OS=PN/6,343,263&amp;RS=PN/6,343,263">U.S. Patent No. 6,343,263</a> on a &#8220;real-time signal processing system for serially transmitted data&#8221; (while this sounds like a pure hardware patent, there are various references in it to logical connections, drivers, programs; in its complaint, Apple said that this patent &#8220;relates generally to providing programming abstraction layers for real-time processing applications&#8221;)</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Ground Reality</strong></p>
<p>All of the patents are actually ridiculous. Where Open source encourages an innovative way, these patents are actually granted for ridiculously small and easy things in software engineering. e.g. If you see a phone number, automatic hyperlinking has a patent. Its ridiculous! Come on Apple.</p>
<p>But violating patent is a serious offense, at the end of the day either Google or all hardware OEMs will end up paying royalty to Apple for using their patented technology.</p>
<p>The whole software patent system needs to be rethought to suit modern world. Open Source projects like Linux and Android contribute a lot to world but actually endup being sued over stupid little patents of something that has been done before several times, unknowingly.</p>
<p><strong>What happens Next</strong></p>
<p>In worst-case there would be a import ban against many or even all Android-based HTC products in the U.S. market. Alternatively, HTC might have to remove certain functionality from its products, and that could result in a significant degradation of the quality of those devices.</p>
<p>Since those patents actually don&#8217;t relate to HTC&#8217;s own extensions of Android but to Android itself, they may affect all of the other makers of Android-based devices. Apple could soon be in a strong position to obtain import bans against dozens of device makers including Samsung, motorola, and all other big players of android.</p>
<p>Apple can grant HTC a license just like Microsoft did and let HTC pay royalty on every android phone they sell, but Apple might claim damages claim and ban imports.</p>

<p>We&#8217;ve now put together the full list of highlights from the WWDC presentation, which you&#8217;ll find after the break. iOS 5 will be made available this fall, with compatibility promised for the iPhone 4 and 3GS, iPad 1 and 2, and iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation.</p>
<p>iOS 5 gets 200 new features, here are the <strong>Top 10 Features of iOS5</strong> or take the<strong> <a href="http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/gallery.html" target="_blank">video preview</a>:</strong></p>

<p><strong>1. Non-obstructive Notifications </strong>Finally. A new Notification Center aggregates all your notifications into one and is accessible by pulling down a menu from the top of the screen. Yes, its just like Android. Notifications are also making their way onto the lockscreen, where swiping across a text message takes you right into it. A lot like Samsung’s touchwiz UI.</p>

<p>2. <strong>Newsstand</strong>: A new place to house all your magazine and newspaper subscriptions.</p>

<p><strong>3. Deep Twitter Integration: </strong>Now you can use Twitter account to signin to all your apps just like you use google account on android. This includes the Camera and Photos app.</p>

<p><strong>4. Safari Improvements</strong> iOS safari on iPad gets tabbed browsing, like honeycomb. Safari also gets a “reader” extension that strips the nuisance from page. Also added to the iOS browser is a Reading List, which does what the name suggests by accumulating a list of pages you want to read later. Accessible on multiple devices.</p>

<p><strong>5. Reminders</strong> is just like iCal on Mac os x, which popsup alerts. Its fully location aware and can trigger location based alerts. It&#8217;ll sync across devices and with your calendar.</p>

<p><strong>6. More Camera features:</strong> A new camera button right on your lockscreen for quick photos. Also you can use the volume-up button to shoot a photo.  Pinch-to-zoom, while holding your finger down on a particular area will lock down exposure to optimize the shot for its particular lighting. Couple of other effects and in-app editing for photos like cropping, rotation, red-eye reduction, and a one-click enhance option.</p>

<p><strong>7. New Keyboard:</strong> A new split keyboard has also been shown off in iOS 5, blows away Windows 8.</p>
<p><strong>8.  PC-less:</strong> Finally apple realises it’s a pain to use smartphone, Tablet with a PC. You no longer need a PC/Mac to use iPHone, iPod or iPad.</p>
<p>Goodbye to cable syncing, all Wifi based syncing with iTunes, cloud. Over-the-air software updates &#8212; <strong>Wireless syncing &amp; OTA software updates</strong></p>

<p><strong>9. iMessage:</strong> It&#8217;s a messaging service exclusively for iOS users, which comes with delivery and read receipts, an indicator for when the other party is typing, and the ability to push messages to all your devices. Just like BBM. You&#8217;ll be able to send messages, photos, videos, and contacts. Group messaging will also be available. It works over either WiFi or 3G and looks to be making good use of Apple&#8217;s new push notifications.</p>
<p><strong>10. iCloud:</strong> All the Cloud features of Android world are now in iOS: Cloud music, contacts, calendar, email, all of them are automatically synced among the devices using same account, even the apps.</p>
<p><strong>Availability</strong>: iOS 5 will ship in the fall to the following devices: iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, iPad 1 and 2, and iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation.</p>

<p><strong>iCloud</strong> would bring the cloud based services that would replace MobileMe with full cloud support for Music Streaming, cloud sync and more.</p>
<p>Apple is set to preview <strong>iOS 5</strong> for the first time during the WWDC keynote. Some select developers are believed to have already seen iOS 5 including the partners that had been developing apps for it.  From what we can confirm, <strong>iOS5 would be getting lots of Android features</strong> like <strong>widgets, Twitter integration, and revamped notifications</strong>.</p>

Going with the standard time frame of June, the iPhone season, Apple is going to make some big announcements about upcoming things in the iOS world.</p>
<p><strong>WWDC 2011 </strong>would be about several important software releases: the next iteration of its desktop and mobile platform, <strong>Mac OS X Lion </strong>and <strong>iOS 5</strong>, as well as <strong>iCloud</strong>, Apple’s upcoming cloud service that would offer a bunch of cloud services.</p>
<p>However, this is almost certain that there will be no new <strong>iPhone 4S</strong> that would be announced at this event. iPhone would be delayed for a later year release.</p>
<p>Steve Jobs would take the stage on Monday, June 6th at San Francisco to announce the new Mac OS Lion, iOS5 and cloud services, you can&#8217;t dare to miss it. <p>BGR got <a href="http://www.bgr.com/gallery/" target="_blank">handson</a> on a leaked iPhone from T-Mobile, running a newer internal version of the white iPhone. <strong>N94</strong> is what it is known as internally, and it is an upgrade from N90 iPhone 4 and N92 iPhone CDMA that we&#8217;ve seen in the past.</p>
<p>N94 or <strong>iPhone 4S is running Apple&#8217;s A5 processor (S5L8940) from the iPad 2 </strong>world. The phone is runnign an internal version of iOS and is preloaded with internal contacts directory of apple.</p>
<p>Most of the stuff looks pretty clear, anew iPhone is coming to T-Mobile and its faster with a dual core A5 processor. Only thing that would become clear over time is the name: <strong>iPhone 4S or iPhone 5</strong>.</p>

<p>Currently, the App Store has more than 300,000 apps.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a huge milestone in the life of the App Store, which lets people downloads games and software programs for their iPhones, iPod Touches, and iPads.</p>
<p>Around <strong>2 thousand apps</strong> were being downloaded every <strong>second</strong>, as per the counter for last few minutes.</p>

<p>The <a href="http://geeknizer.com/pirated-ios-app-store-ipa-apps-shared-bittorrent">hacker of the iPhone App store</a> has come with a solution for Mac App store, and claims that <a href="http://geeknizer.com/pirated-ios-app-store-ipa-apps-shared-bittorrent">they don&#8217;t encourage piracy</a> but they hate a model where a <strong>user cannot try before buy</strong>. There should be app testing bracket before buying.</p>
<p><strong> Why Mac App Store sucks</strong>:</p>

<li>You&#8217;ll have to Re-purchase many of your apps</li>
<li>No trials, no demos, no beta versions</li>
<li>Heavily restricted, controlled Apps.</li>
<li>Many apps would not be available on App Store, thanks to their policies (VLC media player included)</li>
<li>No System-related apps: Apps have no &#8220;root&#8221; permissions, whatsoever.</li>
<li>No downloaders: No ftp, http downloaders or even browsers. WTF?</li>
<li>Not many open source apps: Mac App Store violates GPL, most open source would never make it to app store.</li>
</ol>

<ol>
<li>Install the latest Snow Leopard update (10.6.6) from system updates.</li>
<li>Log in the new App Store (from your dock) and download Twitter (free app)</li>
<li>Now go to Applications folder, locate Twitter, right click, Show Package Contents, navigate to Contents folder and copy _CodeSignature, _MASReceipt and CodeResources.\</li>
<li>Download Angry Birds ( <a href="http://bit.ly/gy9wzk">http://bit.ly/gy9wzk</a> ) and run the dmg file.</li>
<li>Now drag Angry Birds into the Applications folder. Right click, Show Package Contents, navigate to Contents folder and delete _CodeSignature, _MASReceipt and CodeResources. Now paste in the files you copied from the Twitter.app in step 3.</li>
<li>Complete, now your Mac App Store is cracked. You can enjoy Angry birds and other .app file from the new Mac App store which you can find online.</li>

<p>Hackulous is the mastermind behind making piracy on App Store possible. Now, they have been working and knock off DRM on Apple&#8217;s iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad products, for about two years.  Why? They do what they do because they believe that Apple&#8217;s App Store is unfair to consumers since it has no trial service or refund policy.</p>
<p>Hackulous&#8217;s system comprises of two parts : <strong><a href="http://geeknizer.com/appulo-us-alternative" target="_blank">Apptrackr</a></strong>, a web-based index of cracked apps;  <strong>Installous</strong>, the  app on <a href="http://geeknizer.com/tag/jailbreak">jailbroken </a>Apple devices which allows the installation of apps found via Apptrakr . The number is huge, there are around 10million devices which use them.</p>
<p>Hackulous is about to make it worse by providing updates to the existing software that would make it ever easier to share pirated IPA files (Apps).  In the past, owners of App Store apps would have to crack the software using special instructions and then upload it manually to apptrakr and share it to millions. Obviously, there were millions who were passive either due to ignorance or due to lack of ability.</p>
<p>But Installous will now bring a new update that will make it possible to share apps installed on any iOS device to auto-upload in background to Apptrakr servers, distributed over devices, just like <a href="http://geeknizer.com/tag/torrent">BitTorrent</a>.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Essentially what will happen is when you&#8217;re using Installous you&#8217;ll get a little pop up that says &#8216;Hey, you have an application that Apptrakr doesn&#8217;t. We will add the application to a queue in the background (if you say yes) and it will start uploading tiny pieces of it, kind of like a torrent, up to the cloud&#8217;,&#8221; Dissident explains.</p></blockquote>
<p>With hundreds or thousands of copies of the same piece of software, and little tiny pieces of each upload from each person&#8217;s device to the cloud in order to make one final copy, which will then become available from Apptrakr. From there it will be available for 10 million+ devices to download. Imagine how much easier it would become, and how much inevitable.</p>
<p>Going further, Hackulous has plans to pirate Mac <a href="http://geeknizer.com/tag/app-store">App Store</a> as well. They already have the stuff ready but, as per the author, they don&#8217;t wish to discourage developers, hence they would wait till Mac App Store gets significant amount of &#8220;crappy apps&#8221;.</p>
<p>In his own words:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;We don&#8217;t want to release kickback as soon as the [Mac App] Store gets released. I have a few reasons for that,&#8221; says Dissident. &#8220;So we&#8217;re not going to release Kickback until well after the store&#8217;s been established, well after developers have gotten their applications up. We don&#8217;t want to devalue applications and frustrate developers.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>As per the estimates, the plan is to roll it out sometime around feb-march time frame.</p>
<p>It would be a mess of pirated apps all over the Apple stores. Will Apple counter the attack ? They&#8217;ve to!</p>

Similar experience for browsing will now be possible on Apple TV 2G.</p>
<p>FireCore will be releasing a <strong>web browser</strong> and a <strong>Last.fm application</strong> for Apple TV 2g in an app called <strong>aTV Flash (black)</strong>. The company would be releasing beta version of the app within few weeks. The web browser will be known as <em>Couch Surfer</em>,  and it would support most standard browsing features and standards.</p>

<p>Apple built <a href="http://www..taranfx.com/tag/ios">iOS </a>by extracting features from Mac OS X, refined them for mobile devices. And its time to go &#8220;back to the mac&#8221;, all the things apple had learnt from mobiles, iPads, is now back to the mac.</p>
<p><strong>&#8220;Desktop meets the mobile</strong>&#8221; &#8211; <strong>Lion is all about uniting iOS with desktop</strong> with apps, multitouch &amp; everything!</p>
<p>The most successful parts of iOS, like the App Store—with automatic installation of applications—and the springboard—rechristened launchpad in Lion.</p>
<p>Apple is also introducing new user interface elements, like Mission Control &#8211; One stop shop to switch Apps, launch apps, swipe screens and much more.</p>
<p>Lets go through new <strong>Features of Mac OS X Lion</strong>:<br />
<strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>1. FullScreen apps:</strong><br />
All apps can now go fullscreen, and since you no longer have to bother about the dock, switching is swift using MissionControl. May be incomplete till you hear the full story.</p>
<p><strong>2. Mac App Store</strong></p>
<p>Mac will now get one click download &amp; install apps via Mac App Store with the same policies as iOS app store.</p>

<p>Back in 1983, Steve Jobs pulled Pepsi executive John Sculley to Apple with one of the most famous lines in business: “Do you want to spend the rest of your life selling sugared water or do you want a chance to change the world?”</p>
<p>Jobs and Sculley ran Apple together as co-CEOs, blending cutting edge technology (the first Mac) with cutting edge advertising (the famous 1984 ad) and world-class design that has been today Apple&#8217;s culture. But it soon came back to Steve, Sculley forced Jobs’ resignation after a strategic board of directors strategy. Jobs joined back Apple after several years, and brought the company fro losses to most profitable company in the Tech industry while economy was soaring.</p>

<p>Apple has just announced that it will be holding a media event titled “<strong>Back to the Mac</strong>” on October 20th. The invitation hints to indicate that Apple will be making a new announcement for Mac OS X 10.7 or 11  (may be its end of the Mac OS X lineup).</p>
<p>Its almost confirmed that it would be called <strong>Mac OS Lion.</strong></p>

Adobe sued Apple, the FTC seems to have forced Apple to open the flood gates.</p>
<p>With Adobe CS5, adobe had made possible to let <a href="http://geeknizer.com/how-to-develop-iphone-apps-on-windows">developers write iPhone apps on windows</a> using<a href="http://geeknizer.com/adobe-cs5-whats-new"> Flash CS 5 builder</a>. Days before the release, Apple <a href="http://geeknizer.com/tag/ios-4">announced iOS4</a> which claimed that 3rd party tools will be kicked out. Of course, Adobe was&#8217;t happy with the decision and complained to FTC. Apple’s announcement today seems to be undoing the change made in iOS4. They have finally lifted restrictions on its third-party developer guidelines, which has direct implications for Adobe’s Packager for iPhone. After hearing the announcement, Adobe has resumed development work on this feature for future releases.</p>
<p>The goodness of this news is not limited to Adobe alone, it goes much farther than that. This is, in general,  great news for developers.</p>
<p>Third-party development tools, including those made by Adobe, allow developers to write apps once and then programmatically create variations for multiple platforms. Last spring Apple changed its development agreement to force developers to write apps for iOS devices using its own programming language “Objective-C”, arguing that third-party tools made apps that weren’t as powerful and secure as they should be.</p>
<p>This could be a case of an App Store reviewer stepping out of line and making a mistake.</p>
<p>Many are expecting that lots of rejected apps will get a second chance. The hottest rumors are surrounded around <a href="http://geeknizer.com/fcc-apple-att-questioned-for-google-voice-app-rejection">Google voice coming to iOS</a>. But there&#8217;s no official statement from Google as of now.</p>
<blockquote><p>“We currently offer Google Voice mobile apps for Blackberry and Android, and we offer an HTML5 web app for the iPhone. We have nothing further to announce at this time.”</p></blockquote>
<p>In an unofficial tweet, Sean Kovacs, developer of google voice for iPhone did see higher hopes to get Google Voice on iPhone anytime soon.</p>
<p><strong>Is FTC Pushing Apple?</strong></p>
<p>The FTC reportedly opened an investigation into the ban in spring 2010, and, FTC attorneys have been talking over the summer to app developers, about whether the ban makes it less likely that they will make apps for competing platforms such as Google’s Android mobile OS and Windows Phone 7 OS, among others.</p>
<p>The FTC was also reportedly interested in Apple banning Adobe’s Flash, but story has been rumored that interest “might just be a red herring” and the FTC was really concerned about the developer rules Apple had been living with.</p>
<p>It could be the time that Apple is feeling the heat from Google Android and now realizing the need of Openness, or it could be a legal Push from FTC. We&#8217;ll know soon.</p>

<p>And to webcast the Event, Apple would use Apple&#8217;s proprietary standard &#8220;HTTP Live Stream&#8221; that would be viewable ONLY on  Apple devices:</p>
<blockquote><p>Viewing requires either a Mac® running Safari® on Mac OS® X version 10.6 Snow Leopard®, an iPhone® or iPod touch® running<strong> iOS 3.0 </strong>or higher, or an iPad™. The live broadcast will begin at <strong>10:00 a.m. PDT</strong> on <strong>September 1, 2010</strong> at <a href="http://www.apple.com/">www.apple.com</a>.</p></blockquote>
<p>While the protocol has been proposed as a standard, so far Apple is one of a few companies who has implemented it.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re not sure you will be able to view stream, you can try loading <a href="http://devimages.apple.com/iphone/samples/bipbopall.html">this HTTP Live sample stream</a> that Apple has provided.</p>

<p>For non-supported readers who are desperate to watch the stream close to live, it seems likely that you will be able to watch it &#8212; at least in stops and starts. The HTTP Live Stream protocol is based on very standard technologies. The stream is simply provided in an MPEG2 playlist (m3u file) that is added to as the stream continues. These standard playlists will load in <a href="http://geeknizer.com/vlc-1-1-download"><strong>VLC</strong></a> for both Mac and Windows. VLC, will play the above sample stream using this url:</p>

<p>VLC will load all parts of the stream into its own playlist. It works fine for this pre-recorded stream as the entire playlist is already constructed. The catch for tomorrow&#8217;s live transmission is that VLC doesn&#8217;t know that more will be coming, so it looks like you&#8217;ll have to repeatedly reload the playlist manually to get the next few segments. It&#8217;s not an elegant solution, but with some persistence, it seems like it will work.</p>

After Google announced its upcoming android based <a href="http://geeknizer.com/google-tv">Google TV</a>, Apple seems to be joining the race.</p>
<p>Apple is under the works of making a $99 version of the set top box, similarly sized and packed with internals akin to that of the iPhone 4 (A4 CPU, 16GB of flash storage). The original Apple TV will be rebranded as iTV under this upgrade.</p>
<p>The Video and audio content can be stored in the flash drive or stream over a newly coming iTunes streaming service. However, there is a limitation of Highdef video content. The device is only capable of handling  720p, seriously ignoring value of 1080i, 1080p video.</p>
<p>Even though iPhone 3GS was capable of Full HD <a href="http://geeknizer.com/tag/1080p">1080p </a>video playback, iPhone 4&#8242;s specs should drive it pretty smoothly. But as per the sources, the limitation lies int he capability of A4 to work with higher resolution content. Apart from that, the flood gates to App Store apps would also be open notably for both iPhone, iPad apps upscaled to a way higher resolution. Phone 4, iPad applications shouldn&#8217;t have much of a problem doing that but older gen iPhone apps will get pixelated to a  great extent. The plan is to introduce a new SDK that would support natively 720p apps.</p>
<p>There are no details on what satellite service will they tie up with but that should be coming sometime soon. Stay tuned.</p>

<p>Apple has brought some massive upgrades to Mac Pros, which make them the most powerful Desktop Computers around. Revised Mac Pro workstations come along with option of <strong>27&#8243; LED Cinema IPS Display </strong>with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution.</p>
<p>The core horsepower lies with the fact that the top model comes with up to <strong>12 Xeon processing cores</strong> in a <strong>dual-CPU</strong> configuration(featuring the latest quad-core and 6-core <a href="http://geeknizer.com/tag/intel">Intel </a>Xeon processors), up to <strong>4 512GB SSD</strong> drives, and <strong>top-end ATI Radeon GPU</strong>s.</p>

As far as RAM is concerned, it goes from 3GB of 1066MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM, right upto <strong>16GB</strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Graphics / GPU: </strong>Featuring the top of the line <strong>ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB of GDDR5 memory</strong>, two Mini DisplayPorts and one dual-link DVI port.</p>

<p>Apple expects the new Mac Pros to be available in August, and they are not currently available to order. However, single-CPU Quad-core Mac Pro will start at $2,499, while 8-core machines start at $3,499. If you are an Hardcore user your 12-core models start at $4,999.</p>
<p>Apart from that, the New beautiful 27&#8243; LED Cinema Display will be available in early September for $999.</p>
