You can now kick users & devices from Wifi using an android app called WiFiKill. The app makes sure that a targeted users is not able to connect to Internet using your Wifi.

WiFiKill is pretty simple: it scans your network for connected devices and gives the option to individually kill their network connectivity. You can also chose to Kick all users, if you intend to. Tick the “all” box and the network will be completely empty in a matter of seconds. To re-enable connectivity for any device, simply uncheck the box next to its name.

Note: App does wacky stuff to your wifi by injecting spoofing DNS and several other UDP stuff, works only on Rooted phones.

There’s alot of things you can do with it, but doing so for Public or shared networks can create  serious problems. We hope you don’t boot users and create havoc using this app. Use it wisely, don’t be a jackass. If you promise to be ethical, feel free to install the app from market.

But it could be even better if you can get both Xbox 360, PS3 in one box: A Hybrid. A modder has managed to fit PlayStation 3 fat and   Xbox 360 slim together into one well designed case. Of course the package gives out two video outputs to drive different displays, enabling Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games to be played simultaneously.

The design is not consumer class, but enough to satisfy modder’s taste. Going by facts, its all well ventilated and cooled knowing the fact that these two machines together can generate a lot of heat. There’s no expensive liquid cooling deployed here, its just a powerful air cooling fan that takes care of spitting out all the heat, without any trouble.

Modder claims that the console temperature doesn’t go above 5 degrees than the ambient room temperature, however, mileage may vary.

Modern Laptop battery contains its own monitoring circuit which reports the status of the battery to the OS. The circuit is also responsible for preventing battery from overcharging, this comes handy when the laptop is switched off.

The scurity researcher has discovered that the batteries on Macbooks are shipped with the default password on the micro-controller. It can be inferred that if someone knows the default password, the firmware of the battery can be controlled to do many things from simply ruining the battery to install a malware which reinstalls whenever the OS boots. Since you gain access to the micro-controller that controls the battery, it becomes actually possible to overuse and overheat the battery to a limit where it can even catch fire.

Miller claims this hack can make the hacker achieve something that was unachievable before —  it’s possible to use them to do something really bad – Insert a new Hard drive, reinstall the software, flash the BIOS, and every time it would reattack and screw the user. And the worse part, it undetectable and impossible to  eradicate other than removing the battery.

Apple released a fix in 2009 to fix problems by creating two passwords used for the chip on the battery. By hacking that password, its possible to do anything like giving false reading to the charger and let it overcharge to cause fire, or to completely rewrite the firmware.

Hack is Not Easy

Luckily enough, miller hasn’t made all details public. He claims that to successfully exploit this vulnerability,  attacker has to analyze the 2009 software updates from Apple for the password. If he is able to retrieve the password, he will have to find a vulnerability in the interface between the OS and the firmware.

But these details would be made public at te yearly security conference, BlackHat. He will also be unveiling a tool to public that will change the password of the battery to a random string. Hope Apple releases a fix before that.

When your LCD screen backlight burn out, you might have to get them replaced or do something even better: DIY Replace LCD with LED backlight. Not only is this solution cheaper, but also easier to find in the market. A sub $10 LED strip could replace the CFL backlight without any trouble.

Warning: If you have no background on opening displays, seekout expert help on this before you unscrew your display.

HowTo: Carefully take apart the screen with clean hands making sure that the LCD, filters, and Fresnel lenses stay clean, untouched. If you happen to touch them, make sure you clean them well afterwards. You might have to use a mild cleaner, don’t use any toxic and/or heavy duty cleaners can destroy the plastic. Use a damp clean paper towel to do the initial wet wipe then use a dry but slightly damp paper towel to dry streaks immediately (using the wax on, wax off technique).

If you do it nicely, the brightness should be close to your existing LCD CCFL display, but only whiter. The only drawback you would get with a LED strip is the bright spots where LED is present and minor darker gaps. But this difference is not all that noticeable as light is diffused nicely on the screen.

Using your hand gestures, you can flick though photo albums, zoom and pan, and what not. Its like full two hand multitouch, without touching.

The project is called ROS Kinect and source code is available here.
Its not perfect, but it serves the purpose pretty precisely. The detection process distinguishes hands and fingers at 30 frames per second to allow for real time gesture interaction with almost any application.

Most office doors employ magnetic sensors that require a access card to be swiped across to unlock. These magnetic cards have unique magnetic pattern underneath the plastic, which when scanned is matched against a person’s identity.

Among the most popular lineup of Office door lock, Kaba Ilco Simplex lineup has been there for more than 3 decades, and had been pretty much unhackable till 2010. But if you have a strong  magnet, it opens up effortlessly in under 3 seconds.

You devise the Hack, you need powerful rare-earth magnets, which formulates the state-of-the-art attack.

Worst part is,  most other locks that use a combination chamber are equally vulnerable.

How it Works

Normally, these door locks need to capture weak magnetic fields generated in vicinity of a access card or a specific combination of buttons  have to be pressed to make the bolt withdraw. However, when a strong magnet is presented,  it messes with the magnetic field inside the combination chamber, the system scrambles making the bolt withdraw even if no buttons are pressed/ no card is presented.

Kaba, being the industry leader, has fixed the problem with a new combination chamber design in the latest models of its lock, but that won’t change the existing locks that have lying world over in offices since last 3 decades.

The rare earth (lanthanide) elements are metals that are ferromagnetic, meaning that like iron they can be magnetized, but their Curie temperatures are below room temperature, so in pure form their magnetism only appears at low temperatures. However, they form compounds with the transition metals such as iron, nickel, and cobalt, and some of these have Curie temperatures well above room temperature. Rare earth magnets are made from these compounds.

You can buy one of these neodymium magnet for about $10, no experience required.

Warning: This is just for educational purposes, do not hack into someone’s office, you and alone you would be responsible for any consequences.

Alternatively, you can design a a card writer that can hack magnetic locks:

In the above demo, hacker used pre-made connectors so he could easily disconnect and reconnect the device. When you put the reader’s cover back, the Gecko would be hidden behind it.

The card reader also continues to work fine with the Gecko attached. It passes along the signal from the reader to the control system as it’s supposed to. But when someone swipes an authorized card that unlocks the door, Gecko saves that signal.

With that saved unlock signal, the attacker can swipe a ‘replay’ card that tells Gecko to re-send that saved signal, and the doors unlock. What’s more, any saved access logs would only show that the same person who originally swiped the saved signal swiped his card again.

The replay card isn’t anything special, and could be any card. It’s just one that Gecko knows about beforehand. When it sees that card’s code – because the card reader passes it along – Gecko knows to send its saved signal in response.

The device also knows to look out for another card code – again, just a regular card – and in that case, disable the system. Only the recognized replay card can unlock the door. Every other card, authorized or not, will fail.

These days, the most popular topic is the Xbox Kinect hacks and here we’ve a guide on How to Reverse engineer a USB.

USB is a very complex protocol, much more complicated than Serial or Parallel, SPI and even I2C. USB uses only two wires but they are not used as ‘receive’ and ‘transmit’ like serial, data is bidirectional and differential. What that means is that the data sent depends on the difference in voltage between the two data lines D+ and D-.

The fact that USB is also very structured makes it hackable, easy to reverse engineer —  Its easy to grab the format of packets agreed upon and you don’t have to bother about checksums, they are pretty much abstract. Since every computer now made has a USB host core, that does a lot of the tough work for you, and there are many software libraries to assist you in doing a lot with USB.

How to Reverse Engineer Xbox Kinect Motor:

First thing first, you will need a Linux or Mac machine to get your first hands on USB debugging. Both these unix environments has a powerful tool called lsusb.

For linux, run lsusb -vv (ultra verbose) for Mac, run system_profiler SPUSBDataType

First thing you will have to grab  is this PID, VID. Every type USB device must have a unique VID and PID. The VID is the manufacturer. In this case, 0x045e is the VID for Microsoft. All Microsoft products will have that VID. Each product has a different PID, so all Kinect Motors use PID 0x02b0 this doesn’t differ between two Kinects, they’ll both have the same PID.

Second thing that goes is the descriptor. A descriptor is a sort of ‘menu’ of what the device can do and how it likes to transfer data. In general, each device has one descriptor.

The latest and the Best Kinect Hack, Mod comes from a student at MIT. Kinect has been hacked to use camera with a Roomba cleaner to create iRobot KinectBot  that can recognize human beings and respond to their gestural commands. Previously, we’ve seen how a Roomba can be hacked enable you to Google Your Home with Roomba Bot.

The project leverages the Kinect’s ability to map terrain in 3-D and to recognize and respond to human gestures that can be processed combined with aerial drones and rapid-response teams to launch rescue operations.

It’s not a native 3d Video but still offers fair enough results to match the performance of 3d anaglyph (red-blue) glasses without actually wearing those crazy glasses

Spatial View has developed an app that makes this possible. The 3DeeCentral has been submitted to the iOS App Store and soon coming to Android.  The app features a catalogue of 3D movies that can be viewed on the devices. However, 3DeeCentral requires the you to use a thin screen that adds that 3rd dimension of depth — 3d without glasses.

Business Insider got early handson and has  +ve feedback:

We don’t expect this to sweep the nation overnight. For one thing, it looks like the library of content will be fairly sparse to begin with. And the 3D effect isn’t as compelling as it is on a larger screen using glasses.

But we just tried it out, and it was real, live 3D right there on the phone. And that was awesome.

3DeeCentral would be available in the fall and should cost < $20, on both iOS and Android, plus the media store will have additional cost per movie/video download.

Step 1. Launch Sn0wbreeze in administrator mode and connect  your iPhone/ iPod Touch via USB to your PC, press next arrow button to get started. Here you would have option to chose between modes:

• Simple Mode - Which provides step by step instructions as below and automatically detects your correct firmware and adds the unlock and activation and jailbreak with Cydia automatically to your
  custom firmware.
• Expert Mode – Where you can adjust the settings on the various different additions to the custom firmware – if you click through and do not change anything in expert mode it will make the same.

Step 2. Click browse to locate firmware ipsw and click Open. After selecting the firmware, Snowbreeze will automatically detect the device  to jailbreak.

Step 3. Click “General” and Sn0wbreeze asks you if you wish to activate your iPhone.

• If you are using an Official service provider (i.e. AT&T) you do not need to Unlock Baseband, select NO.
• If you are using an Unofficial service provider (i.e. T-Mobile), select YES

Step 4. In next screen check Cydia only.Next up choose  packages to be included in your firmware. Choose to have: Repository pre-added

Next, click  “Build IPSW” and wait for few minutes.

Step 5. Put your phone in DFU / Recovery mode. DFU recommended. Proceed as below:

1. Connect your iPhone to your computer.
2. Turn iPhone off.
3. Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly).
4. Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
5. A few seconds later iTunes should detect your iPhone.
6. If the Restore Logo is present on the screen, you are in Recovery Mode, not DFU.

Step 6. fire iTunes,  Shift + Restore and Browse the firmware you just created. Sit back and relax as iTunes completes all procedures for upgrading your iPhone / iPod Touch.

After a successful jailbreak Goto Cydia and use Ultrasn0w to unlock your iPhone 3GS by adding repo http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com/ to Cydia’s sources.

The iOS 4 multitasking was a nice addon but is still crippled by an average  task switcher. What if you can replace it with Mac OS’s Expose like interface ?

Multifl0w on iPhone too, that’s also decent, though bit heavier on resources.

If you use these on iPhone 3.1.3, you will observe significatly higher Free RAM, which makes it even more idealistic to use these apps for multitasking. On my iPhone 2g, iI’m able to multitask 3-5 apps (depending upon their size) and on my bro’s iPhone 3GS, its a monster.

There are apps for everyone, but no one really bothered about Security expperts/admins/ network gurus. Nickmpetty thought about this and compiled a list of apps that will do this right for security geeks, Pen testers.  You can simply install all the popular pen testing tools to your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and connect an external keyboard (if you need to) or use it wirelessly via a SSH client like putty and there you have it — A Portable powerful pen-testing tool.

So here is the suite of Pen Testing Tools for all those who own an iPhone/ iPod Touch

Pre-Requisites: Jailbreak your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad

Note: You must use ‘Developer Mode’ in Cydia.  If you didn’t, go to Manage, then click on settings in the top left corner, and select it there.

OpenSSH

If you have a jailbroken iPhone, this would be something you already have.

Mobile Terminal

Mobile terminal gives you the full shell access, it provides bare bones for the most of the stuff.

Building a Linux Shell

With the basic stuff in there, lets install some base tools and packages that are normally included on a normal linux computer.

How to Install From Cydia,  Install “uzip, adv-cmds, aptitiude, apt 0.6 transitional, inetutils, iPhone/Python, make, subversion, wget, iDNS, stunnel, tcpdump, setup tools, ruby, OpenSSH, OpenSSL, MetaSploit”.

Perl

In terminal (or via SSH)  login as root with the “su” then install using “apt-get install perl” or via Cydia. Execute “curl -O http://coredev.nl/cydia/coredev.pub”.  Next, run “apt-key add coredev.pub”.  If you get an error, just ignore it.  Now type, “echo ‘deb http://coredev.nl/cydia iphone main’ > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/coredev.nl.list”.  Then, “apt-get update”, and “apt-get install perl”.  Thats it.  You can now delete that coredev.pub file.

Installing Pen Testing Tools

Create a folder called ‘pentest’ anywhere e.g. /var/root/. Try isntalling all the apps in this directory so that you have all the tools handy at one place.

Ettercap-ng

Ettercap is a suite for man in the middle attacks on LAN. It features sniffing of live connections, content filtering on the fly and many other interesting tricks. It supports active and passive dissection of many protocols (even ciphered ones) and includes many feature for network and host analysis.

How to Install Install from Cydia, if you can’t find it, Add this source “theworm.altervista.org/Cydia”.

aircrack-ng

Aircrack-ng is an 802.11 WEP and WPA-PSK keys cracking program that can recover keys once enough data packets have been captured. It implements the standard FMS attack along with some optimizations like KoreK attacks, as well as the all-new PTW attack, thus making the attack much faster compared to other WEP cracking tools.

How to Install Search for “aircrack”, if you can’t find it try adding source to Cydia, “http://cydia.xsellize.com”. Once you’ve  installed it, an icon will appear on SpringBoard, don’t bother with it.  Its only to tell you to run aircrack from the terminal.  Navigate to /var/aircrack/ to use it.

Nikto2

A web server scanner which performs comprehensive tests against web servers for multiple items, including over 6400 potentially dangerous files/CGIs, checks for outdated versions of over 1000 servers, and version specific problems on over 270 servers.

How to Install We need SVN to get the source and build it. execute “svn co http://svn2.assembla.com/svn/Nikto_2″.  It will download the folder, move it to pentest and then navigate to the nikto2 folder, and the next folder then execute as normal.

SET (Social Engineering Toolkit)

The Social-Engineering Toolkit (SET) was designed by David Kennedy (ReL1K) and incorporates many useful Social-Engineering attacks all in one simplistic interface. The main purpose of SET is to automate and improve on many of the social-engineering attacks out there. As pentesters, social-engineering is often a practice that not many people perform.

How to Install SET is every geek’s fav. You need to checkout via svn “svn co http://svn.thepentest.com/social_engineering_toolkit/ SET/”

Move it to your pentest folder, then SET, and go as normal once again.

NMap

Nmap (“Network Mapper”) is a utility for network exploration or security auditing. Many systems and network administrators also find it useful for tasks such as network inventory, managing service upgrade schedules, and monitoring host or service uptime. Nmap uses raw IP packets in novel ways to determine what hosts are available on the network, what services (application name and version) those hosts are offering, what operating systems (and OS versions) they are running, what type of packet filters/firewalls are in use, and dozens of other characteristics.

How to install Search for it in Cydia, its already there.

Although, this is priracy, on the positive side it allows users to abckup their gaming discs in case of damages. But that reason would never appeal Microsoft much, as its more of a threat than  feature.

New Xbox 360 Slim (or S) had a newsecurity mechanism to get over exsting mods/hacks, But, hackers have managed to hack Xbox 360 S / Slim to run writable discs.

These hackers call themselves Team Xecuters, and claim to have hacked the DVD drive of the new Xbox 360 to play writable discs as seen in the video above.

Pirates would now love to see those Xbox 360 Kinect games getting more open.

Pre-requisites:

Steps to Jailbreak iOS 4.0.2

Step 1. Download both iOS 4.0, iOS 4.0.2 from above
Step 2. Restore iOS 4.0.2 on your iDevice and run Redsn0w.
Step 3. Browse and select the iOS 4.0 IPSW file, mark Cydia and hit next button. Also enable “Enable Multitasking” and “Wallpaper”
Step 4. Follow the on screen instructions and put your iPod touch/ iPhone into DFU Mode.
Step 5. After your iphone, ipod touch reboots, you’ll notice Cydia has a blank white icon. Allow Cydia to reorganize, then accept the update it offers. When Cydia restarts, you should see its real logo now.
