How to Install Android Froyo 2.2.1 on iPhone 2G, 3G

Step 1. Launch Cydia -> Tap on “Manage  Tab”  -> Select “Sources” and in the upper right corner Click ‘Edit’ and then Click ‘Add’ and Enter this URL: http://repo.neonkoala.co.uk and then Tap on ‘Add Source’

Step 2. Search and install “BootLace”. Once installed, launch it from the springboard. Then, click “Install” to install  OpeniBoot

Step 4. Next,  Install ‘iDroid’ by tapping on its icon at the Bottom bar and “Install” it, as well.

Step 5. Now tap on ‘QuickBoot‘ icon at the bottom of the screen. And Tap on the Android Logo as shown in the screenshot below. It will reboot your iPhone with Android 2.2.1 Froyo. Thats all, wohoo!

A brief about HDR:

High dynamic range imaging (HDRI or just HDR) is a set of techniques that allow a greater dynamic range of luminances between the lightest and darkest areas of an image than standard digital imaging techniques or photographic methods. This wider dynamic range allows HDR images to more accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes, ranging from direct sunlight to faint starlight.

Simply stated,  HDR Imaging automatically combines multiple exposures into a single image to improve shadows in images.

Enable HDR photos on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G :

• SSH into your iPhone using your favourite tool (Filezilla on windows, CyberDuck on Mac)

For iPhone 3G, navigate to

/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist

For iPhone 3GS, navigate to

/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N88AP.plist

• Using textEditor, create a New key named “hdr-image-capture” with a boolean value of “true” to the “capabilities” section of this property list, like below

Jailbreak iOS4 on iPhone 3g, iPod Touch 2g

Step 1: Update your iPhone/iPod touch to  to this latest firmware via iTunes ( iPhone1,2_4.0_8A230m_Restore.ipsw)

Step 2: Start redsn0w 0.9.5 and point it to the original iPhone OS 4 Beta firmware for iPhone 3G to proceed. Select “Install Cydia” and click “Next”.

Step 3: Turn your iDevice OFF and while PLUGGED IN before you click “Next”.

Step 4: Connect your device in recovery mode by pressing the Power and Home buttons continuously. While holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

Step 7: Sit back and enjoy while redsn0w will do all the rest for you. Once done, your iPhone 3G will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken with iPhone firmware version 4.0.

You will now notice that Cydia has a blank white icon. You’ll also notice that Cydia has no sources. Go to the Sources panel and add http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7 repo. Now restart your phone and you should see the regular standard Cydia logo now.

Enable Multitasking on iPhone 3G, iPod touch 2g

Once done, you can now enable multitasking on iPhone 3G, OS 4 by simply editing  /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist file via SSH. Open the .plist file and change the multitasking key to = TRUE. If the is not there, add it.

How to Enable Wallpapers:

You can now enable support for Wallpapers on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G on OS 4 by editing same file as above with <homescreen-wallpaper> to true.

Howto Install Android 2.2 Froyo on iPhone 3G

Pre-requisites

• Openiboot (installer.zip)
• Download Archivio, firmware files
• Phoneview or Filezilla or Cyberduck
• Jailbroken iPhone with Cydia and SSH installed
• Linux PC (ubuntu live cd does fine)

Prepairing: Transfer files to iPhone

• Open your favorite SSH client and navigate to /private/var and copy the downloaded (zip) file to  this directory
• Create a new folder called “Firmware” and copy the firmware zip inside it.

Installation Openiboot:

Step 1. Unzip installer.zip and place it on your desktop

Step 2. Put your iPhone in recovery mode ( turn off the device and connect to the computer while holding down the Home button until iTunes recognizes the device).

Step 3. Open Terminal and type the following commands in sequence:
cd Desktop
cd Installer
sudo. / loadibec openiboot.img3
Step 4. Three symbols appear on the screen of the device: move to the second with the power button, and press the Home button on the top. Wait until it displays ‘Welcome to OpeniBoot‘.

Step 5. Move back to your Terminal and type this command: . / Oibc.

Step 6. Put the device in recovery mode but this time hold down Home and Power until you see the classic iTunes logo with th cable screen. Close iTunes on your Mac and move to the Terminal.

Step 7. From terminal, press Ctrl  C. Re-enter by writing OpeniBoot sudo. / loadibec openiboot.img3. Without this, the three symbols appear again. This time, do not hit the Home button.

Step 8. On the terminal, while remaining in the Installer folder, type. / Oibc and do not press Enter.

Step 9. Navigate to OpeniBoot and click on Home, then on the terminal type the command . / Oibc. Wait till you see ‘Welcome to OpeniBoot‘, Type install Terminal and wait till your iPhone 3G reboots.

Boom! You can now switch/ Dualboot between iPhone and Android 2.2 froyo

Running iPhone OS Again

1. Reboot your iPhone and openiBoot menu would appear again.
2. Press the Lock (Power) button to highlight the Console option.
3. Press and hold the Home button for 2 to 3 seconds. This will boot Android.

iPhodroid (for Mac only) Installs android on iPhone 3G, 2G in an easy automatically. iPhodroid automatically transfers all android OS files to your iPhone and no installation is processed keeping your device on safe.

Warning: Android port of iPhone is not perfect for day-to-day use, but a great thing to try-out. The biggest issue is the lack of power management which causes a fully charged battery to drain in under an hour. Apart from that, media syncing is also absent That said, everything else works great.

So the processors on the devices are not fully exploited, but with overclocking it is very much possible, but only on jailbroken iPhone/ iPod touch. The processor of the iPhone 2G, 3G is indeed 600MHz, but Apple has underclocked it to 412 MHz only, iPhone 3GS instead of 833 MHz it is operated at 600Mhz. But its easy to run them at their factory clocks.

How to Overclock  CPU on iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch

Step 1. Make sure you have a Jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch. (Jailbreaking guides)

Step 2. Using a SSH tool like Filezilla, Navigate to System/Library/System/System Configuration/PowerManagement.bundle/

Step 3. Rename file “com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefault.plist” to  “SystemPowerProfileDefaultbak.plist” or something that device doesn’t recognize.

Step 4. Reboot, and your iPhone/iPod Touch would Run on native Processor clocks.

Important: Increasing the clock speed would degrade the CPU’s lifespan by several minutes. However, since the device is not designed to handle the heat generated at higher clocks, we recommend you to terminate apps if device appears to overheat. Also checkout tips to Prevent Overheating of iPhone

What works: You can use the Android OS to connect to WiFi, browse the web and Run any application that does not require audio support, as well as send and receive SMS text messages over the cell phone radio.

This Android port is definitely better than the one for iPhone 2g. There are lots of under-the-hood improvements and bug fixes: For instance the Wi-Fi driver has been hacked to work with all the Android-specific extensions, making it more stable and reliable.

What’s Next: The most feature asked for is Audio support, that will be coming in few days.

Apart from that Better power management and backlight control is also on TODO list for the developer. The end result (within couple of months) would be that everyone would be able to use iPhone 2g, 3G as fulltime Android phone, without any hickups.

Did you the rising demand, we developers played around to get a hacked app  that is a look-alike app for iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G which works and looks almost exactly as it is on iPhone 3GS.

You will need to have an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone for this to work. Pre-requisites:

Download WinSCP for Windows
Download CyberDuck for Mac
Download VoiceControl (zip) for iPhone 2G and 3G

Step 1: Install OpenSSH via Cydia if you haven’t already

Step 1: Open WinSCP or Cyberduck  and enter the following details to login to your phone:

• Hostname: The IP address – Setting –> WiFi –> <Netowork>
• User name: root
• Password: alpine

Step 3: Unzip VoiceControl.zip and copy it to your iPhone in the /<root>/Applications directory.

Right-click on directory Voice Control.app >> Properties and change the permission to 755 while keeping “Set group, owner and permissions recursively” option selected

You are done! After the restart, you should now have a new app named “Voice Control” on your springboard. Start this new application on your iPhone 3G or 2G and simply search through your contacts, music and bookmarks by using voice commands just like iPhone 3GS!

How to get iPhone 3GS Features on iPhone 3G and 2G – Video Editing and Camera Roll

Update: Jailbreak Unlock iPhone 3G 3GS 05.11.07 using blackra1n with blacksn0w

Pre-requisite: To downgrade your baseband from 05.11.07 to 04.26.08, you must first jailbreak your iPhone 3G running firmware 3.1 by following guide unlocking iPhone 3G, 2G on OS 3.1.

Step 1: Go to “Cydia” and Search for “Fuzzyband” and then install it.

Step 2: Start Fuzzyboard app and click on Downgrade button to start downgrading your Baseband from 05.11.07 to 04.26.08.

Step 4: Now, your iPhone 3G is having an unlockable baseband. Now proceed with Unlocking with Ultrasn0w.

NOTE: Downgrading of baseband will only work on phones that have the 05.08 (5.8) Bootloader. If you do not know your bootloader,  run Fuzzyband and it will report the version to you.

Update: How to Enable Voice Control on iPhone 2G 3G

Pre-Requisites – Your iPhone should be jailbroken and have OpenSSH from Cydia installed. Download these if already you don’t have them -

Download WinSCP for Windows
Download Cyberduck for Mac OS X
Download VideoToggle (optional)

Step 1: Goto Cydia and install the following apps (in case you don’t have them already):

• Cycorder (the Video recording App)
• SBSettings
• MobileTerminal

and Reboot.

Step 2: Now connect your iPhone with your computer. close iTunes, if running.

Note: There are two methods beyond this point. Method 2 is harder, but more Reliable

Method 1. (Easy) Add this source to Cydia: http://cy.sosiphone.com

Open Cydia and search for “VideoEdit” and Install it.

Skip Steps 3,4,5,6 and jump directly to Step 7.

Method 2. Download VideoToggle (above) and continue with Step 3

Step 3: Open WinSCP on Windows or Cyberduck on Mac and enter the following details to login to your phone:

• Hostname: The IP of iPhone.
• User name: root, Password: alpine
• Protocol: SCP (default)

Step 4: Browse to /private/var/tmp directory on your iPhone.

Step 5: Extract VideoToggle.zip into a folder and then Copy it to /private/var/tmp directory on your iPhone

Step 6: Now open MobileTerminal (aka Terminal) on your iPhone and run the following commands:

> su root
alpine
> bash /private/var/tmp/VideoToggle/install

Step 7: Open SBSettings (by swiping on the status bar on the top) and enable VideoEdit as shown in screenshot on right.

You are done! Now go to your Camera Roll in Photos app and you should now have iPhone 3GS Camera Roll, Video Editing and Video Uploading options in your iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G !!

Open Photos App, you will Notice the Videos option being added.

We can now play videos recorded from Cycorder app in Photos app on our iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G.

Also, you get Ability to trim videos on iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G.

You ca either “Email Video” or “Send to YouTube”.

IMPORTANT: VideoToggle is still in beta and has some bugs. When it is enabled, Camera app will NOT work properly. You will have to disable the VideoEdit toggle from SBSettings to make the Camera app work again. Before you start, you must have a jailbroken iPhone if you haven’t jailbreaked your iPhone 3G then follow our Guide Jailbreak, Activate iPhone OS 3.0 With RedSn0w. For unlocking your iPhone UltraSn0w, a soft unlock payload from iPhone Dev Team is using. UltraSn0w is a small daemon that is launched on boot.  It injects the payload at boot and also whenever there is a baseband reset. Which is quiet similar to what Redsn0w did. You won’t notice anything about it other than that all Networks now work. Once you have a Jailbreaked iPhone then you can use these easy stepsto Unlock.

Why Ultrasn0w for 3G when REdsn0w unlocks iPhone 3G?

If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use redsn0w. Ultrasn0w (the 3G carrier unlock) is not included with redsn0w and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for.

2. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w.

If you are done with redsn0w, please proceed as below:

1. Launch Cydia Installer, Select the Manage tab at the bottom of the screen, then click the Sources button

2 : Click Edit at the top right & then Press the Add button at the top left. Enter “http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com/” in the source url and click the Add Source button. Now cydia would validate the supplied URL, check for updates in the source URL mentioned

3 : Once the source has been added and updated, click the Return to Cydia button. Press the Done button at the top right of the screen.

4 : Touch to select http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com/ from the list of sources.

5 : Touch to select ultrasn0w from the list of packages.Press the Install button and confirm. After installation completes successfully press the large Return to Cydia button, restart iPhone.

6: There is no step 6, Your iPhone 3G should now work with any network.
