How To Jailbreak Untethered iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch iOS 5.0.1

Step 1: Launch Sn0wbreeze or PwnageTool, and click next. Browse the downloaded IPSW fie for your iOS device and click next. Click the next arrow again to proceed.

Step 2: Now, if you need to preserve Unlock, make sure you preserve your iPhone’s baseband for Gevey SIM or Ultrasn0w unlock. Choose Expert Mode and click next to select target for built IPSW. Sn0wbreeze will now hack the iOS 5.0.1 IPSW file. It may take a while, please stand by.

Step 3: Connect your device and hit OK, then enter DFU mode. Don;t worry onscreen instructions would help you. When DFU mode is entered, Open iTunes, hold down left Shift key on your keyboard, hit the Restore button, and select custom firmware file you just created.

Let iTunes restore iOS 5.0.1 on your iDevice and on next boot you will have Jailbroken Untethered iOS 5.0.1. Enjoy!

chpwn has actually figured out a legal way of installing Siri on iPod Touch 3rd, 4th gen, iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, or in other words any jailbroken iOS 5 device. The app is called Spire and is available via Cydia.

Disclaimer: It’s not very easy. Difficulty level: moderate

Pre-requisite: Your iOS 5 device should be jailbroken.

You will need to have your own Siri proxy setup, and an iPhone 4S (at least initially) for authentication to get it running on your older-gen iOS device. chpwn explains:

Spire is not a complete solution. Apple still requires authorization to use Siri, so information from an iPhone 4S is still required. To insert this information, Spire allows you to enter your own proxy server address. I’ve put up a list of my ideas on how you might get access to a proxy; hopefully you can figure something out.

To get a Siri proxy, chpwn suggests:

• westbaer’s SiriProxy fork
  • Own an iPhone 4S too: Maybe you already own an iPhone 4S, and just want Siri on another device of yours. This is simple; you can just use the above proxy yourself.
  • Find a friend: Maybe your friend has an iPhone 4S and will let you use their authentication tokens (maybe in exchange for some cool SiriProxy plugins). Then, you can share the authentication. Or, maybe you gave your relative your old iPhone when you got your iPhone 4S: now you can share your token and give them Siri.
• Pay up: It’s very likely that soon we will see for-pay services online to rent you some space on a Siri proxy, attached to one of their iPhone 4S devices. I haven’t seen anything like this yet, but I’ll keep my eye out, and I would encourage anyone who is interested to set something like this up.
• And now for something completely different: As I suggested earlier, you might be able to replace Siri entirely. A simple method might be to use Google Chrome’s speech “API” hooked up to some code to decode the Siri requests and parse Google’s result. Or, someone could hook it up to some logic backends like many of the clones available on Android: the possibilities are endless.

Spire is available via Bigboss repo (which is default in Cydia). Go ahead and install it.

Step 2: Cydia would now verify this source and refresh its available lists. Go back and install Ultrasn0w, it will automatically unlock your iPhone.

Siri0us – is free on the Cydia store and provides Siri dictation on iPhone 4, 3GS. We won’t see a full port anytime soon coz there are couple of legal issues, thanks to Apple’s control freaks.

Siri dictation works on all iOS5 devices. To install Siri0us, add the http://apt.if0rce.com repository to Cydia and search for the app “Siri0us”.

Note: In case you encounter continuos resprings, use a SSH tool to remove the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AssistantServices.framework file.

The app works great on all iOS 5 devices, without any trouble.

Initially, Not all of it worked, but from the progress we seen in early days, one thing was pretty clear: You don’t need an A5 to run Siri. Right now, Voice commands e.g. calling, texting a contact, finding map routes, setting alarm and reminders by voice works. What also works is Dictation. What didn’t work till very recent time, is the intelligent Answers. It seems like Apple servers were blocking these devices. But now, even apple servers have been pranked to assume its iPhone 4S, and it all works now.

Steven Troughton-Smith, managed to get Siri working with all of its features on older iOS devices such as the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G.

On the iPhone 4S launch date just a couple of weeks ago, we broke the news that developer Steven Troughton-Smith had successfully ported the Siri user-interface and some of the underlying code from the iPhone 4S onto the iPhone 4. The port was functional except for the most important part: talking to Apple’s servers. Now, Troughton-Smith has followed up with Chpwn to get the server fully working on an iPhone 4 and iPod touch.

Troughton-Smith initial brought just Siri  GUI on iPhone 4, iPod Touch. After “following up” with developer chpwn, he has managed to trick Apple’s servers into accepting voice input from Siri on officially unsupported devices. This only became possible after iPhone Dev-Team managed to jailbreak iPhone 4S from which Troughton-Smith was able to extract necessary files to make Siri work.

Before you proceed:

• This is a Tethered Jailbreak using , Untethered would be coming in a week’s time.
• This method prevents baseband from updating, so you can preserve your Unlock.
• If you’ve already updated to iOS 4.3.5 from iTunes, you are out of luck for Unlock. You can still proceed with jailbreak, however.

Pre-requisite: Download iOS 4.3.5 for iPhone, Pwnage tool 4.3.3, PwnageTool bundle, Tetheredboot util

Step 1. Extract PwnageTool bundle, copy PwnageTool app to applications and right click “Show package contents”.

Step 2. Browse to Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/ and place the .bundle file you extracted in step 1.

Step 3. Run PwnageTool in expert mode, select your device (iPhone of course) and proceed to next screen.

Step 4. Browse and select .ipsw firmware you downloaded for your iPhone and on the next screen you can customize as per your will. When satisfied, hit Build.

Step 5: When build completes, follow the onscreen instructions to put your iPhone in DFU mode. When done, close PWnageTool and run iTunes and shift+restore the custom firmware bundle.

Your iPhone is Jailbroken!

Booting into Tethered Mode

Since its a tethered Jailbreak, you will have to plug it to your computer USB and run teteheredboot util on every reboot. So next time you reboot, follow the instructions below:

Step 6. Rename your .ipsw to .zip and extract it to a directory. Goto /Firmware/dfu/ and copy kernelcache.release.n90 and iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu from tetheredboot utility directory.

Step 7. Make sure your device is plugged to your computer and turned off. Now run these commands in terminal (assuming that you extracted tetheredboot to Desktop):

sudo -s

/Users/geeknizer/Desktop/tetheredboot/tetheredboot
/Users/geeknizer/Desktop/tetheredboot/iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu
/Users/geeknizer/Desktop/tetheredboot/kernelcache.release.n90

Use “tetheredboot -i”and “iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu -k” instead if it doesn’t work.

Step 8. You’ll be asked to enter phone into DFU mode, follow onscreen instructions, you should see “Exiting libpois0n” on the terminal. Your device is now iBooting Tethered. have fun!

iOS 4.3.3 brings the LocationGate privacy fixes to iOS devices, so this update is worth the effort.

Apple has integrated this malicious behavior into iOS 4 and its so dirty that it takes automatic backups every time it’s connected to iTunes, then pulls out a lifelong list of your locations, timestamps included. This data can be visualized using iPhoneTracker, showing you complete location history.

Apple uses Cellular tower triangulation and that’s why it always works no matter your GPS is off or out of range. This location data is available to any person (or app) that knows where to look.

How to Disable iPhone location Tracking

Thanks to the Jailbroken app in Cydia, its now possible to escape this apple’s blunder. The app is called “Untrackerd” and it continuously watches and deletes the database that is used by apple to store location data. The app is available for free on Cydia under BigBoss repository, simply search for Untrackerd on Cydia and install it to prevent your iPhone from tracking your location.

The package [will install a] daemon (process that can run in the background) to clean consolidated.db file. No new icons are added to your homescreen. There are no options to configure.

There are two new ways of Unlocking iPhone 4 without Jailbreaking it.

First, you can get your IMEI whitelisted for a price from a GSM phone source.

Second, You can use a SIM card unlocker, which just works.

Method I: Getting IMEI whitelisted

It works by adjusting your phone’s IMEI to work on any carrier. An IMEI is a number unique to every GSM phone that allows your carrier to identify your device. The service, from GSM Phone Source, will cost you $180. That’s a hefty price, but worth it would make it work on any GSM carrier. When you sign up for the service, you provide them with your phone’s IMEI. They’ll email you within 48 hours to confirm your phone has been unlocked. After another sync with iTunes, you can then insert any GSM sim card into your iPhone.

It is confirmed that it works today however, there is a catch: There’s always a chance that Apple can put your IMEI back in the registry and negate the whole process, so use this service at your own risk.

CutYourSim is a very similar service, but again, try it at your own risk.

Method II: SIM card Unlocker

This is a much cheaper and safer bet at $48. The card comes from Rebel SIM Card and will allow you to load any SIM you want into your iPhone 4.

It comes in two flavors:

• The cheaper option has an tiny antenna that awkwardly sticks out the side.
• For around $17 more, you can get a SIM special tray that replaces the one that comes with your iPhone. ($65)

Rebel’s use of a custom SIM tray lets you update the SIM Software even if Apple redesigns the iPhone. Check out the product page to make sure your phone is compatible.

2: Goto /Applications > PwnageTool right click >Show package contents and Navigate to Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/ and paste iPhone3,1_4.3.1_8G4.bundle file in this location. Your pwnage tool is now ready.

Phase II Creating Custom RAM disk

3: From the PwnageTool bundle package locate “Universal Ramdisk Fixer” and install it.

Phase III: Building Custom iOS 4.3.1 Firmware

4: Download iOS 4.3.1 dor your device (google it) and start PwnageTool in “expert mode”. Select your device from the pictures.

5: Browse for iOS 4.3.1 firmware for your device and then select “build” to create custom 4.3.1 firmware file and wait for the process to finish.

Phase IV: Restoring custom iOS 4.3 Firmware to your device.

6: Bring your device to DFU mode. Use the instructions below:

• Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds
• Now release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 more seconds
• You device should now be in DFU mode

7: Open iTunes and restore using the custom firmware you prepared in Phase III. Be patient while your device is restored. After the process is over your iOS device will be jailbroken on iOS 4.3.1.

Phase V: Booting in Tethered Mode

As there is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 yet, we will have to boot it into a tethered jailbroken state.

8: Unzip tetheredboot utility and copy two files from the custom iOS 4.3.1 firmware namely: kernelcache.release.n90 and iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu. Hint: you can rename your custom iOS 4.3.1 from .ipsw to .zip and extract.

Copy kernelcache.release.n90 and iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu files from /Firmware/dfu/ to tetheredboot folder.

9: Power off your iOS device and run terminal on your mac.

sudo -s

cd /Users/fx/Desktop/tetheredboot/

tetheredboot iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu kernelcache.release.n90

Replace “fx” with your user.

NOTE: If the above fails, try ‘tetheredboot -i ibss -k kernel’ instead of ‘tetheredboot ibss kernel’:

You should now see some code running in the Terminal window, at some point, it will ask you to enter DFU mode. Follow the same steps as earlier for DFU mode.

Now wait for your device to boot, Terminal at this point will be showing “Exiting libpois0n” message. After some processing and wait, your iOS device will be booted in a jailbroken tethered mode. enjoy!

The Gevey SIM transposes the SIM card signals while they are delivered to the baseband hardware. As a result, Unlocking iPhone is a child’s play.

How to Unlock iPhone 4 2.10.04 3.10.01

1. Just Install the Gevey SIM and then call 112, once the call connects you hang up.

2. Toggle Airport mode on and off and that’s it.

On one side the unlock is dirt easy, while on the darker side of the method, dialing the emergency number without any reason is punishable offense in some countries. Another drawback of the method is that a firmware update or carrier update will again lock the iPhone 4.

How Gevey SIM iPhone 4 Unlock works

SIM card holds many different types of information, but the part most involved with carrier lock is the IMSI number, which is a unique code that corresponds to your account in the mobile carrier’s database.
When the iPhone baseband is loaded into memory, it checks the MCC and MNC against its own network lock state stored in the seczone. If the combination is allowed, the cell radio is activated and vice versa.
The earliest iPhone baseband revisions only check IMSI twice following a restart, therefore it is very easy to send spoof information in order to bypass the check. Nevertheless, the baseband was soon updated to validate SIM more aggressively and the method soon became obsolete.

A sample IMSI might look like this

To guard against eavesdropping that plagued pre-GSM cellular networks, the initial connection to a network does not only involve IMSI, but a 4-byte TMSI to identify each handset before IMSI is sent processed.

The base station then send a 16-byte nonce to the handset, where is signed with a 128bit DES key (Ki, stored encrypted on the SIM) and sent back. The network checked the string against their database and allow that number to connect to the network.

You see, the IMSI is not essential; as long as your key is valid, you will be able to get service. This is exactly what the various SIM hacks where a fake IMSI is sent along with the correct key. The IMSI is redirected to another network and lost, and the signed nonce usually allows you to register (without cross-checking IMSI)

With this technique, “Data Roaming” needs to be enabled to allow data connection because the baseband is acting on the assumption that the phone is roaming however the network do correctly recognise the phone as a home user. Further details here.

What does it mean to unlockers?

1. It works if A.your network handles 112 calls properly according to the GSM standard; B.they are tolerant to TSMI spoofing and does not actively validate your SIM again for incoming calls.
2. Unlike its ancestors, the i4 SIM interposer is not a drop-in-and-forget device. The exact precedure must be performed should the device restart, lose reception for an extended period of time or move to another PLMN. In all situations the TMSI expires and has to be obtained again. Theoretically it is possible for a daemon to automate the process similar to ZeroG, but that only makes thing more convoluted.
3. It is, without question, unethical or downright illegal to use the technique anywhere 112 is a legitmate emergency number. Not a huge issue in China where the number is only used for informative purpose; the providers has no immediate incentive to fix the loophole.
4. All firmware/baseband combinations for the i4 up to iOS4.3 are vulnerable, however the exploit may be patched in any future software updates or via the carrier. If apple can influence providers to block Cydia it is not impossible for them to press them to fix the exploit. The only way to permanently unlock your baseband is via NCK.
5. SIM interposer should not harm your phone hardware, however your network could request IMEI and identify your device during the emergency call. Your identity cannot be faked and it is possible that they will ban your account. There is a reason why SIM cards remain legally the property of the service provider: you are not supposed to tamper with them without breaching contract.
6. Notwithstanding all the problems, SIM interposer does not cause any battery drain since it is only active transiently, nor would it cause signal loss because it does not change cellular transmission other than the initial validation step.

Conclusion:
An overpriced (US$50), unreliable and legally questionable mod; works for some but your mileage may vary; get it if you are desperate or wait for the 40-bit NCK hack by dev team.

AT&T has struggled to overcome complaints about network quality ever since it started exclusively selling the iPhone in the U.S. in 2007. That contributed to a decision last summer to offer new iPhone and other smartphone customers only pricing plans that cap how much data they send and receive.

The confirmation comes from Verizon, as they have invited reporters to a press event where it is expected the wireless carrier will announce it will carry the iPhone. It wasn’t clear how long Verizon would offer unlimited-data plans. Its executives have said repeatedly that the industry needs to move to some form of tiered pricing-charging different prices for different amounts of data use-as mobile Internet service use rises, but for the moment the carrier is sticking to its existing plans.

Recently, a company claimed leaked iPhone 5 in a video footage, and was 100% genuine as apple took down the video.

A report by the Wall Street Journal specifically notes that Verizon will offer its existing unlimited data plan to iPhone users, something AT&T no longer offers to new subscribers. “It wasn’t clear how long Verizon would offer unlimited plans,” the report said. “Its executives have said repeatedly that the industry needs to move to some form of tiered pricing as data use rises, but for the moment the carrier is sticking with its current data plans.”
Verizon would set a separate 5GB data limit on its tethering option and on data plans for USB modems and similar PC-oriented WWAN services.

There are some regional differences in service plans, as well as family and business plans, but the general terms of each carrier’s current plans are outlined below, with differences highlighted in red.

AT&T offers rollover minutes, while Verizon offers users on its cheapest calling plan the ability to list five contacts they can make unlimited calls with. Both company’s unlimited calling plans are virtually identical.
In data plans, AT&T has given up its unlimited data plan for iPhone users and replaced it with 200MB and 2GB (2000MB) options. Tethering the iPhone to use its mobile 3G with a laptop costs an additional $20 per month but does not offer any additional data service.

AT&T’s service also enables users to roam globally on other GSM/UMTS carriers, although this is very expensive. AT&T’s UMTS service also supports simultaneous voice and data use, unlike Verizon, where users must terminate their call before they can again receive push messages or browse the web.

How to Jailbreak (untethered) iPhone 4, iPad, iPod Touch iOS 4.2.1

1: If your iPhone is not already Jailbroken (tethered), you must follow instructions to Restore your iOS device to the official iOS 4.2.1 firmware and jailbreak it, else move on.

2: We would need SHSH blobs saved for 4.2b3 (iOS 4.2 Beta 3). To verify, start Cydia and wait for it to completely load the main page. You should now see “SHSH: 4.2b3″ on top as shown in the screenshot below:

3: Download Redsn0w 0.9.6b7 and connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with Mac and download usbmuxd from here and extract it on your computer.

4: Open Terminal in python-client directory and then run the following commands below”:

chmod +x tcprelay.py

./tcprelay.py -t 22:2222

5: Start Redsn0w and browse it to the official iOS 4.2.1 firmware. Now click “Next” and select “Jailbreak Monte” option, followed by browsing and selecting iOS 4.2 Beta 3 firmware file.

6: Check mark “Jailbreak Monte (untether)”, “Install Cydia” if not already. Leave all others unchecked.

7: Make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.

Now you will have to enter DFU mode. Follow the onscreen instructions.

8: Sit back and relax as Redsn0w will do all the magic . When its done, your Device will automatically boot into a fully jailbroken (untethered) iOS 4.2.1 firmware.

The app lets you choose among front and rear-curtain sync effects in flash modes. You can achieve blur effects: tails or leads the sharp image. Since its practically not possible to control the shutter speed on iPhone it uses the iPhone’s Video mode with some superb image processing to produce amazing piece of art.

While the resultant effects are great, the actual output Image would have limited resolution of 720p (iPhone 4). Yeah, that’s truly disappointing, since Apple puts a restriction on video resolution.
