Few months back Google announced that they would stop the Realtime search partnership with Twitter as Twitter had its own concerns. And now that Google is doing well with Google+, personal search results are introduced that leverages content from your Circles, and highlights them along with organic search results.

Its a great value add to search, but not everyone is a Google+ user and not everyone likes to have personal search results. Instead, you might want to bring back the Twitter search results. If you’re among those, you’re lucky, coz a Chrome Extension lets you do exactly that.

Sidebar for Google Search modifies your Search results by placing a customizable sidebar on the right. You can choose to display results from Twitter, Wikipedia, Wikitionary, Youtube, and more.

Not only the Twitter search results are accurate, they are nearly realtime. All the top search results are shown. However, they are rarely ordered by relevance. But in most cases, it serves the purpose well.

Google Search already showed your friends from Googl Talk, Twitter and few other social sites your starred sites. Get ready to go one step further with Google +1.

You can now +1 web links and your friends will be able to see your recommendations. This is very much like the Facebook LIKE button, but could be even better as it has much wider reach.

The beauty of +1’s is their relevance—you get the right recommendations (because they come from people who matter to you), at the right time (when you are actually looking for information about that topic) and in the right format (your search results).

Checkout the Video:

How to Get/Enable Google +1 in Search

Google Search will now incorporate recommendations from all sites you’re connected to, you can edit those under “Social Circle and Content” section of the Google Dashboard.

To kick start, create a Google profile or upgrade it. You can use your profile to see all of your +1’s in one place, and delete those you no longer want to recommend.

Google PlusOne +1 is rolled out to US then other countries, if you cant wait goto experimental search site and then visit google.com/ncr . Initially, +1’s will appear alongside search results and ads, but in the weeks ahead they’ll appear in many more places (including other Google products and sites across the web).

Enjoy the new Social search experience as Social recommendations start appearing over time.

How many times did you saw a person you think you have seen before and not able to recall ? How many times did you wish you knew that blonde girl heading your way? Seems like all of the wishes are about to become true with Google’s new patent for social faces. We are very nearly there with automatic face-recognition technology and social media aggregation.

Google Goggles is a Visual search engine for mobile phones which allows users to take a picture of anything, such as a landmark, or a celebrity and then run a search for what/who they are.

Google wishes to expands its plans further when they acquired like.com, a visual search engine. Prior to Google’s acquisition, Like.com helped online shoppers search site called Riya which used facial recognition technology to search images that users had uploaded and tagged. The latest patent filed by Google: User Interface for Presenting Search Results for Multiple Regions of a Visual Query suggests that Google’s visual search for smartphones might be evolving into something that’s totally new and powerful.

Another Google patent, Facial Recognition With Social Network Aiding, describes facial recognition searches for “one or more likely names” of the people in the image based upon “communications applications, social networking applications, calendar applications, and collaborative applications” to create a list of possible identities for each person. The patent description also mentions that if the photo is tagged with a person’s name, “that picture might be used in future facial recognition queries to recognize the person.”

After receiving the visual query with one or more facial images, the system identifies images that potentially match the respective facial image in accordance with visual similarity criteria. Then one or more persons associated with the potential images are identified. For each identified person, person-specific data comprising metrics of social connectivity to the requester are retrieved from a plurality of applications such as communications applications, social networking applications, calendar applications, and collaborative applications. An ordered list of persons is then generated by ranking the identified persons in accordance with at least metrics of visual similarity between the respective facial image and the potential image matches and with the social connection metrics. Finally, at least one person identifier from the list is sent to the requester.

Benefits aside, Google could face serious privacy allegations. In regards to privacy, Google has several possible scenarios: to send only one of the “identifiers” to the person searching; to possibly allow only the person identified to make the photo public, or to send a request after a person is positively identified, asking if the image can be a face search result for other people’s visual queries from within their social network, which is kind of tricky as Google would need partnership with Twitter & Facebook for this to work. Its not hard to get the former but latter is what we doubt.

Okay, now that we know Google is serious about social facial recognition, how can we confirm is targetting mobile platforms like Android & iPhone? Coincidently, “David Petrou, Andrew Rabinovich, and Adam Hartwig” who worked on Google Goggles, are the patent filers.

What would make it better is that we would see some competition as well. Viewdle is also working on mobile facial recognition that works on the fly, and might help “government stalkers.” by allowing users to tag and save “faceprints” of people, and “then share the faceprint of them with other Viewdle users so they can recognize that person too!” The photosharing privacy settings are integrated with Facebook privacy settings.

Viewdle in action:

Viewdle – Photo and Video Face Tagging from Viewdle on Vimeo.

There are many privacy issues which need to be addressed here before they can make a public appearance. But one field where they would work without obligations would be with Dictators and governments who are already identifying people based upon real names and photos posted in social media.

Rise of the content farms and spammy sites that have little actual content has caused trouble for both Google and Google users. The problem is ofcourse not limited to Google, but affects every Search engine equally.

So what can you do to remove such sites from search results? Initially Google had launched a labs experiment that allowed you to remove a specific search result, later on it was dumped in favor of ”star” which actually moves that search result to the top, the next time you search for it.

Google has been trying different ways to counter Malicious websites. Google will also be making the anti-content farm algorithm live, soon.

For the meantime, Google has announced the best alternative to all that, a Chrome extension that lets you remove sites from you search results, permanently.

Download the Extension from Chrome Web store.

With this extension, Google will be crowd-sourcing Content-farms by monitoring most removed sites and penalizing them heavily in the search results.

The personal blocklist extension will transmit to Google the patterns that you choose to block. When you choose to block or unblock a pattern, the extension will also transmit to Google the URL of the web page on which the blocked or unblocked search results are displayed. You agree that Google may freely use this information to improve our products and services.

“We’ve been exploring different algorithms to detect content farms, which are sites with shallow or low-quality content. One of the signals we’re exploring is explicit feedback from users.”

So Google is basically crowdsourcing their content farm detecting algorithms by soliciting user feed back to study as a “potential ranking signal” for search results. Hmmm … This is an odd move on Google’s part, as users will still have to find the extension (not everyone reads tech blogs), opt in and consistently edit their results to offer any kind of valuable data. There is also the possibility that rival content farms can use the tool to sabotage each other. But we believe Google is smart enough to take that into account.

Content Farms have been considered one of the biggest challenges for the Google search. There were a large number of pointers that raised fingers on Google and its spam fighting techniques. But seems like Google has been listening and made the final algorithm change to discourage Content Fram’s & low quality blogs.

I had been watching the buzz about “traffic reduction on content farms and various blogs” on twitter from various blog/forum owners. The official word comes from Google’s Anti-spam team’s head, Matt Cutts. If you are interested about reading the impacts of this change, checkout the discussion on Hacker news.

Apart from that, WebmasterWorld thread has a bunch of SEOs and Webmasters complaining about a recent and significant drop in traffic from Google. These reports all come from webmasters who have had stable rankings in Google and stable traffic from Google for years.

One of the commentor quoted:

Matt, I just went through my search history because i remembered a very specific instance of seeing this. Here’s the query.http://www.google.com/search?q=nstoolbar+bottom+bar&ie=u…

You’ll notice that efreedom.com shows on the first page with content taken directly from stackoverflow. While stackoverflow does show in the results, the exact page that efreedom copies does not. Anyway, I’m glad you guys are taking this seriously.

Another person said everything was doing great and then January 26th came “at exactly 3:30pm CST. It’s as if the switch was turned off again, ” he said. And another webmaster said the same thing, “We have lost 40-60% traffic in several sites, all same time yesterday. Very frustrating and to see server idle now.”

What’s New in Google Search Algorithm
The new Google Search algorithm would bring down spam levels even lower, including sites that copy others’ content and sites with low levels of original content.”

The net result? Google users would now see the original content rather than a site that copied the original site’s content. Now that’s what we are talking about.

p.s. we had been observing continuous increase in traffic (15% increase in January, 20% increase in last day), seems like some of the copied blog that ranked better than us went off the search.

Few days back Google began testing instant search previews — something that has been there on Bing & Ask.

The feature has now been branded and shows you a preview of what the search result looks like.

Today, Google has announced that previews have been officially available to general public across the world.

In our testing, we’ve found that people using search Previews increase confidence in Link before clicking. The previews provide new ways to evaluate search results, making you more likely to find what you’re looking for on the pages you visit.

Key Features of Instant Previews:

Quickly compare results – A visual comparison of search results. Flip among them

Pinpoint relevant content – Text call outs, in orange, will sometimes highlight where your search terms appear on the webpage.

Interact with the results page – Page previews let you see the layout of a webpage before clicking the search result.

Instant Previews can be helpful for many kinds of tasks. e.g. say you looked at a page before and need to find it again—with a preview, you can tell if any of the results look familiar. Or perhaps you’re looking for an official website—look for a logo and formal style and you’ll probably be able to identify it. Everything is now simpler, with a flick.

Video preview after a break.

Google Instant has delighted our ways of searching by making it faster and more elegant.

Google Instant now arrive for Mobiles, displaying search results as you type, making a beta version available to most iPhone and Android devices in the U.S.

How To Try Google Instant on Mobile: Navigate to google.com in your phone’s browser and tap the Google Instant “Turn on” link. If you don’t see the “Turn on” link, try refreshing refreshing.

Like the desktop version, Results for the first prediction appear automatically on your phone, and tapping on the other predictions will display those results.

Check out our demo video:

So what’s different? Google is pushing the limits of mobile browsers and wireless networks, by providing big improvement in speed when you search, thanks to a new AJAX and HTML5 implementation for mobile that dynamically updates the page with new results and eliminates the need to load a new page for each query.

Instant for mobile works great on both 3G and wifi, however it may suck on EDGE networks, but it can be switched easily.

Availability: It’s currently available for Android 2.2 (“Froyo”) devices and iPhones and iPods running iOS 4 in the U.S. in English. The service is coming to other countries, devices soon.

Its not easy to run world’s biggest Search engine, and yet make it robust against spams, malware. Everyday, Fabrice Jaubert and his team layouts new plans to conquer and kill malware from the web.

At a security conference, SecTor, Google malware researcher gave a rare peek inside the massive amounts of efforts of Google’s anti-malware and anti-phishing technologies. Google showcased stories of the attackers who make it their business to infect sites and exploit users. And what makes it worse is that users are adapting these blackhat/unethical tactics very quickly and creatively to combat the efforts of Google and other Internet giants.

The search giant has deployed a number of services and technologies recently that are designed to identify phishing sites as well as sites serving malware and prevent users from finding them. Among the biggest tools, the most powerful, yet simple, is Google SafeBrowsing API.

Safebrowsing API enables client applications to check URLs against Google’s constantly updated blacklists of suspected phishing and malware pages. The client application can use the API to download an encrypted table for local, client-side lookups of URLs that everyone would like to check.

Warn users before clicking on links that appear in site when they lead to malware-infested pages.

Prevent users from posting links to phishing pages from your site.

Check a list of pages against Google’s lists of suspected phishing and malware pages.

These services help site owners and network administrators find and eliminate malware and the attendant bugs from their sites.

As Google crawls through the web, it identifies malware-distribution sites as well as legitimate sites that have been compromised with injected malicious code. One of the major reasons of adoption of such methodologies is to gain back-links by infecting relatively higher PageRank websites, in order to gain more traffic from search engines.

Malware-distribution sites are regualrly being watched by Google. Google has invested in a huge number of virtual machines running completely unpatched versions of Windows and Internet Explorer that they point at potentially malicious URLs. The data hence gathered is then tied up with that of automated crawlers which look for “malicious code” on “legitimate Web sites”. The combiantion of the two gives them full confidence in identifying the culprits.

Fabrice Jaubert, of Google’s anti-malware team, said, “the company does pretty well on identifying malware sites, fast enough. Still, about 1.5 percent of all search result pages on Google include links to at least one malware-distribution site”.

“There’s a lot of fluctuation in that over time, and that could be due to a lot of factors. It could be due to a change in the pages, it could be a change in our detection rate and also in the popularity of the infected pages,” Jaubert said. “The biggest factor is that we’ve found a substantial number of malware pages are spammy and have no content. We remove those pages. But it’s a cat-and-mouse game, just like viruses and AV. We go and find bad pages and they get better at hiding them.”

Source of Malware distribution

Its difficult to identify the source of a malware, however prevention helps everyone.

A major cause of this infection and distribution ecosystem is the huge population of unpatched Web servers having known vulnerabilites waiting to be exploited by various code injections.

Malicious code is often hidden in web markup components, and the most favorite one is the iFrames. Such code injections redirects users to another site where malware is installed on the victim’s machine via a drive-by download, or one of the other popular ways.

With time, these malware distributors are getting smarter and have changed their tactics for their own good. Among ewer methods, instead of redirecting, these malicious codes of iframes attempt on loading the malware on the compromised legitimate site and using the same site for malware distribution as well.

On a good front, its relatively easier to identify malware-infected, malware-distribution pages , making web-malware easier to tackle.

But that doesn’t mean that there is an end to web-malware. Despite all the efforts there’s a large set of secrets of web malware that are in the dark even for companies like google. Like Jaubert says ”We don’t understand all the details of this. We focus on the technical. There’s monetization aspects that we don’t have visibility into.”

Google is today testing a new Rollout of its Search results that shows Full page preview when you hover over the search results.

The image previews load pretty fast as they are compressed to something nearing 5-10kb. The screenshot below should give you a fair idea:

The beauty of these previews is that it highlights sections of the page (in orange) with snippet containing information. The snippets highlighted are not always the same as the snippets in the search results. Click anywhere on the preview takes you directly to the site. This new change is for normal non-brand queries as well. Links from same sites can appear on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th for some queries. Looks like if I site has a content, google no longer groups them, rather orders them the way it should be: PageRank.

After long testing the new Interface, Google is now Live with the new 3 column interface.

Google has added contextually relevant, left-hand navigation to the page. This new side panel highlights the most relevant search tools and refinements for your query. The new design refreshes and streamlines the look, feel and functionality of Google, making it easier to pinpoint what you’re looking for. It’s simple yet elegant.

Google Claims:

Universal Search helps you find the most relevant types of results for your search. The top section of the new left-hand panel builds on Universal Search by suggesting the most relevant genres of results for your query and letting you seamlessly switch to these different types of results. The “Everything” option remains our essential search experience with different types of results integrated into the main results, but now you can also easily switch to just the particular type of results you are looking for.

Things definitely look alot more cleaner and snappier. The tree column interface looks inspired by Bing, but still is unique in its own ways.

You can use Google Squared (available on Google Labs) to find and compare searches. You can easily explore not only the results for your current query but other related topics.

More about the design, in the video:

After fetching Real-Time Tweets into Google search results, Google is all set to make every tweet in history searchable.

So, if you wanted to see the CES (Consumer Electronics show) Tweets in context of the timeline, you will be able to see them on Google. (At present the service has archived tweets back to February and is working on the rest.)

How to Try it: You can try it now by selecting ‘options’ on the search page and selecting ‘updates’, You should then see the timeline updates for your chosen topic.
In this example below Google shows us how it will look like when you search for your chosen topic. You can test drive the new function on this special link.

The inclusion of timeline based tweets will prove a valuable archive to understand more about what was said, by whom and when. That kid of information would be invaluable for analysts or even end consumers. in understanding the importance of certain topics and events and also offer understanding of key influencers.

Google will display a timeline of tweets by day, broken down into topics.

First off, Matt Cutts walks us through How Google Crawls, Indexes and Ranks web Pages on the web. And further, they talk about some basics of their proprietary algorithm- PageRank:

Next Off, Nundu tells us how Relevant Ads are displayed on Search Pages:

And in the last they talk about How their Google Apps work. This includes all the business Apps in the App Marketplace:

For the offline PC searches, Google Desktop finds every needle in the haystack.

But what about your Home? Ever wished that you could index your home and find stuff you misplaced within seconds?

The unofficial project called “Google Bot” or “Gåågle Bot“ to the rescue. The Swedish author claims that it is a “home crawler” which is nothing but a vacuum roomba hacked to have on-board tiny webserver and a camera. Vauum Roomba crawls around doing it’s basic job of vacuuming the floor, while doing so it takes a large number of photos of various location s inside house. It then uses an OCR (Optical character recognition) Engine to change it into indexable Text. This text is later put in a database on the roomba and is “fully searchable” through a web interface.

To give you an idea of what you can do with it: It can index your bookshelf, boxes, magazines, sign labels, almost everything that is observable from the floor. So the next time you lost your book ask Google Bot.

You can checkout the search here.

GåågleEye is fully automated, does it’s job quiet well, and even can be overriden to do the task you ask it to. It can remote controlled in realtime using AJAX based webapplication which shows you roomba’s eye view through camera. Awesome stuff, while you are away from home and some guests are expected to showup, clean it up all before anyone else sees it. Apart fromt hat, good for survellience of Home while you are away, or to have an eye on babysitter, other stuff. Author himself used it when his son was born.

So what all is it built on?

Google crawl’s billions of webpages everyday which includes re-crawling existing pages for changes, and New pages as they appear on the web.

For Popular sites, it takes couples of seconds to minutes to get indexed and listed. For most thing, even new posts on Taranfx get indexed in under 5 minutes. But sometimes it’s tough for Google to index and reach-out relatively new sites and pages.

To start with, Google started indexing and displaying realtime content from Networks like Twitter, Facebook but that doesn’t help much. Google Still doesn’t index the realtime content. Google News quickly learns popular stories among top sites and displays them in 2-3 hours. But the indexing and ranking them in Search is no where near.

Google seems to be adopting (as claimed by rww) Real-Time search indexing algorithm. It would work on the PubShubHubbub PuSH network to get real-time feed updates from various syndication sites.

Basically, publisher informs Hub about updates and these hubs will notify Google, everytime new content is published. Based on this even subscribers can be choosy on the topics they wish to subscribe to on the Real-time.

But all this would require big changes for Sites which don’t, already, support syndication options at this time, which I believe would refrain Google from implementing this to full landscape.

So, PuSH won’t replace crawling, but a PusH will trigger crawling.

But the biggest challenge is all about handling the Spam. Weired marketers would await for any opportunity to exploit. Definitely Google will have anti-spam solutions before it even hits Beta, after all Google learned alot from Google Buzz.

Today at Google’s Search event, Google has launched a new application for Google Android mobile phones that will allow people to search for more information about a famous landmark or work of art simply by taking a photo of that object. The announcement came along with Google Real Time Live search.

Google Goggles can recognise books, tourist attractions, famous paintings and even company logos. Focus your phone’s camera on an object, and Google compares elements of that picture against its database of images and will point you to the relevant results.

What’s more is the Google is able pinpoint the location of the phone user through the GPS software and digital compass built in to many of the phones that run Google’s Android operating system. The company says it can recognise tens of millions of objects and places.

Here’s a demonstration:

Google had been taking RealTime search seriously, lately. Months back they talked about integration with twitter, and here it comes.

BREAKING!!! Google has just launched real-time search, integrated into it’s all search results pages.

Google real-time search takes all the latest happenings from Live tweets, Yahoo Answers, News articles and Web pages. Good part: It works on mobiles (including iPhone) too.

That’s not all, though. Google’s has laid partnerships with both Facebook (Facebook) and MySpace (MySpace) to pull in data in real-time.
The features might not be available to everyone yet, but will be within the next few days. However, all users can see it now via a “Hot Topics” feature that’s been added to Google Trends. Click on any trend, then click a “Hot Topic,” and you’ll see the new “Latest Results” area of Google search results. For example, you can currently see real-time updates for the Tiger Woods story. or CLICK HERE TO TRY NEW RealTime Search
We had discussed the revamped UI in detail.

With a slight hack, you can get to try it before it officially reaches you:

1. Navigate to Google.com. ( Use http://Google.com/ncr if you are outside U.S.)
2. Copy and paste following javascript into your URL address field:

javascript:void(document.cookie="PREF=ID=20b6e4c2f44943bb:U=
4bf292d46faad806:TM=1249677602:LM=1257919388:S=odm0Ys-53Zu
eXfZG;path=/; domain=.google.com");

Note: Remove everything else, just this Javascript code should stay.

3. Hit enter or Go.
4. Reload or open a new Google.com (/ncr if you are outside U.S.) page and you will have access to the new user interface.

Microsoft had been having a tough time tackling Google’s leadership in Search. In the past they have given out several offers, UI changes to attract users.

Well, the battle just got a whole lot dirtier, as The Financial Times has uncovered news that Microsoft has approached several news content providers, offering them money if they opt to “de-index” their sites from Google.

It all started with News content providers having a dispute with Google. News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch has threatened with legal action to prevent Google from “stealing” articles published in his newspapers.

Microsoft took utmost advantage of the opportunity, and added the fuel to the fire. Even though it was News Corp. that first approached Microsoft about the plan, The FT got to know that Microsoft has approached other news content providers to extend the deal by bribing them. However, on being questioned, both News Corp. and Microsoft declined to comment.

As usual, Google was neutral to the news, they didn’t have anything to say about this specific story, they had a general statement “Economically it’s not a big part of how we generate revenue,” Matt Brittin, Google’s UK director.

Though it’s important for search engines to index news, the thing gets more serious for news content providers. due to growth of eMedia, many of them have been struggling for a long time and now finally trying to make profit from the internet and if it fails, they are in serious trouble.

Justification holds in the hands of News content providers, and If this continues, News agency will gain (by both saving their premium content and getting Money from Microsoft) but search quality overall lags.

What do you think? What is more important?

Google is now eleven and a half years old, but it has never changed it’s look drastically. For Google what matter s the most is simplicity. Keeping the simplicity still simple, google is all set to to revamp it’s search UI.

The new look and New underlying Search Caffeine will be rolled out slowly and effectively. As a result, a small number of Google users should already see the new Google main page with a new look to the Search Options. This will be released to everyone some time after the New Year.

This is how the new Google home page will look: (click to enlarge)

imageCredits

Search Modes

Let’s take a closer look at the changes. Here’s an overview of the new results page in testing:

“We’re basically looking at a new look and feel for Google, It’s an overall cleaning up of the search results page.” said Google

The search options appear in the left-hand column. The former “All results” area that allowed you to switch between different types of searches (images, news, maps and so on) has been replaced with new tabs for these services:

Internally, Mayer said that Google calls “modes.” For example, after searching for “australia” in the example above, you’re in “Everything” mode. But with a click on the Images tab, you can switch to “image mode” and get back image results, select News to get news results in “news mode” so on.

By default, Google guesses at the modes it thinks are most relevant to your search. But the “More” tab gives you access to the full range of search services Google offers. If you Video mode, and that’s not automatically suggested, you can select More, choose Video and get those results:

As happens now, when you switch modes, the search options change. In video mode, you get unique video filtering options such as duration of clip or to see only video in high quality:

What’s more is the new area “See also”. This section suggests other queries related to your original topic.

Google 3Pane

The most dramatic change in the design is that the search options window is permanently open, rather having to be manually toggled on, as is the case now. That’s right. If the test proves successful, Google’s almost certainly moving to a three “pane” format, with search tools and options located on the left, search results themselves in the middle and ads on the right.

Mayer said going left made the most sense. Google continues to add new search features, and they need to be exposed to searchers somewhere. Putting them at the top of the page pushes results down; ads are already at the right. Having the tools on the left, with the pane permanently opened, is something she said she’s personally wanted for some time, but not everyone in the design team was convinced. The test will be a final proof of how well it works with Google’s audience.

“While I wish we had gotten here sooner, I’m excited to finally have it out.”

Mayer added that Google had recently done nearly 50 mockups, all done independently, to examine results. A three pane design was a common theme that kept coming up. That made it final.

So what do you think about the new Design? Is it intuitive?

With the speed Google is making other products/technologies obsolete, it’s very fair to quote they are driving the Internet. Speed is something that envy’s Google the most.

Last week’s launch of SPDY: Speedy Protocol for Internet, sure came with a message. It has come out that Google is seriously considering using page loading time as a factor when returning search results. This isn’t some unsubstantiated rumor, either; it comes from none other than Matt Cutts, the high-profile Google employee who works on Google’s web spam team.

Cutts elaborated that the directive to speed up searching comes right from the top, Google‘s co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. He said they want searching to be as fast as “flipping through a magazine”. And that looks like google is pointing to prefer websites that use spdy:// over http://.

At first thought, it feels justified. At Second thought, it seems counter to Google’s accuracy goals to favor fast pages over slow pages when a slow page might be more relevant to a user’s search. And most users won’t mind if a page takes 5-6 seconds more than a non-relevant one. Third and final thought is end of Openness, why would Google force people to migrate to SPDY?

Here is video where Matt Cutt discuss Google’s New Caffeine and SPDY

However, on the personal front I believe a better approach would be to Star /Mark the site a “certified faster”, and ranking should remain Un-altered.

If Google can shield me from the slow sites, it will help me find what I’m looking for more quickly.

Of course, new bloggers on shared-hostings will be in trouble if this thing gets rolled out.

What do you think, will this SPDY encourage nothing but a closed monopoly? Or will Google really take this step seriously?
