We all admire and use reopen last closed tabs on our favorite modern browsers. It comes really handy when we accidentally close a running browser tab or realize immediately after closing it that you missed something.

What if it was possible to ReOpen closed explorer windows, Applications. Thanks to UndoClose, its possible on Windows.

Windows 7 application windows has totally different way of operating, even though it maintains a list of  recently opened programs and items in Start Menu, it doesn’t support bringing them up again using a hotkey.

UndoClose remembers all recently closed folders and applications, and lets you restore them in the same sequence in which they were closed using two hotkeys.

Using two hotkeys you can do pretty much all. Use Ctrl+Shift+F to open last closed folder (in Windows Explorer) and Ctrl+Shift+A, to open last closed application. You can use them multiple times to cycle through the history. You can even change the hotkeys from Settings of the application that sits silently in system tray.

Application is light weight and eats nominal RAM. No installation required, its portable across all version of Windows7.

Games use hardware acceleration with efficient Native C/c++ code. This code is often optimized for the platform and hence incompatible with others. But often, developers don’t allow relatively less compatible phones to maintain higher quality apps, and hence better rating. However, you can skip this compatibility check by spoofing your phone to be Google Nexus S. Google, by default, allows all apps to run on it’s developer phone: Nexus S.

How to Install Incompatible, Unsupported Apps from Android Market

Pre-requisite: Your android phone must be Rooted.

Step 1. Clear Market Cache & Data. Settings > Applications > All > Market > Clear data.

Step 2. Install Prop Editor from here.

Take backup of existing build.prop file.

Step 3. Open Prop Editor click on build.prop and look for following keys and enter values corresponding to them, manually:

DesktopShelves lets you add Folders as floating Shelves on Mac Desktop, and makes them quickly accessible. It lets you add two Shelves that list the content of any two folders of your choice and allow you to view and open all files within those folders. The shelves can be moved to anywhere on the desktop and appear across all spaces.

A shelf’s appearance can be changed by using one of the pre-installed themes. To change the theme, right-click the shelf and pick a design from the Change Design Shelf option.

When you mouse over an item on a shelf, the item pops out from it in a large thumbnail like preview. Double clicking the thumbnail opens the folder in Finder. Dragging & dropping files or folders on to a shelf will add them to the respective folder.

Metro UI is sure a fresh concept for modern intuitive User interaction. Luckily enough, you can get Windows 8 Metro UI on Windows 7, thanks to Metro7 app.

Metro 7 provides instant access to built-in widgets and a custom store from where you can install more applications. Obviously, these are not same as native Windows 8 apps, but they are pretty close.

The tiles provide time and date information, access to built-in metro store, weather application, and shortcuts to numerous websites like Facebook and Badoo. You can go ahead and customize it to your needs.

Overall, Metro7 is a good application for emulating the Windows 8 MetroUI style interface on your Windows 7 desktop, however, it still seems to be under construction as some of the widgets simply lead to a blank page and many of the  website shortcuts on the main interface seem to be there to fill the main interface. An app called WinOnX makes this a lot easier than installing Windows on a Virtualbox or VMware on your OSX. The app costs a mere $4.99, and makes things much easier.

Its a new jailbreak tweak that greatly increases typing speed on all iOS devices, just like the Android friends.

As you can figure out, Swype makes typing a lot faster,  since you don’t actually spend time lifting and pressing keys, movements across keys is much faster and effective. While it might take a while to get used to, speed do improve by several multiples over time.

Note: This not official version of Swype, its just a hacked version that has been made to work on iOS.

Plusbar adds couple of new things to Google+ like  audio and video media player. Although the plans are pretty wide, at the moment plusbar offers Amazing Radio, DFH Radio, Grooveshark, BBC News and TWiT livestream. It integrates beautifully into Google plus as if it was a native part of the stream.

We are addicted to Google+ and spend hours on it, this is definitely a nice add-on to accompany the navigation. We love Chrome CSS tricks, check it out (chrome only).

Zetro UI is very simple to install and configure. Extract the zip after downloading the theme from the link below. When done, follow the below two simple steps:

• Opening the Extras folder, running the Theme Patcher, and clicking on all three “patch” buttons contained within.
• Opening the Theme folder and copying both of the files inside it to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes.

When finished, Open the Control Panel and “Change the Theme” under Appearance and Personalization. The Zetro theme should be available in “Installed themes”.

The look and feel of the theme makes you windows 7 look simple with white all over the place, which might look a bit odd for the first few minutes. You can tweak it using the extra tweaks available in the readme file that comes along with the zip.

Extending the tweak further, feel free to blend it with something like the Metro-inspired Omnimo 4 theme for Rainmeter.

MightyText (formerly Texty) has created an android app that can push notification to your Chrome browser whenever a new sms arrives or you receive a phone call. The SMS is fully synced (two-ways) between the android device and the chrome browser.

The part we love about MightyText is that an incoming SMS messages appear on your screen as a pop-up, giving you the option to read and reply to them without touching the phone. The conversation with your contacts are shown in different threads, just like in some of the native apps on android or iphone, along with full call logs. And of course, its also a good way to backup your sms, call logs, without doing any extra work.

The application is in its beta stages and you can apply for a beta preview here. The app only works with Chrome and Anrdoid 2.2+ device. Go ahead and apply for the beta, you may want to retweet their message to get faster invites.

UPDATE: People are apparently going crazy over the app. I was lucky to nab one early on, but they are trying to accommodate everyone as fast as they can. I’ve been using it for a bit now and it is seriously awesome.

Windows tablet fan Justin Campana found a couple of  apps and tweaks that can be combined with a few custom scripts to make the Windows 7 touch experience much more appealing.

He describes in detail which all docks, widgets, scripts, and applications he used to create a better Windows 7 Tablet experience, which had been dull and boring. He used a variety of software such as ObjectDock, Fences and Rainmeter along with a bunch of tweaks to make Windows 7 look like it was born for tablets.

When your LCD screen backlight burn out, you might have to get them replaced or do something even better: DIY Replace LCD with LED backlight. Not only is this solution cheaper, but also easier to find in the market. A sub $10 LED strip could replace the CFL backlight without any trouble.

How to Replace LCD backlight with LED – Transform LCD Display to LED

Warning: If you have no background on opening displays, seekout expert help on this before you unscrew your display.

HowTo: Carefully take apart the screen with clean hands making sure that the LCD, filters, and Fresnel lenses stay clean, untouched. If you happen to touch them, make sure you clean them well afterwards. You might have to use a mild cleaner, don’t use any toxic and/or heavy duty cleaners can destroy the plastic. Use a damp clean paper towel to do the initial wet wipe then use a dry but slightly damp paper towel to dry streaks immediately (using the wax on, wax off technique).

If you do it nicely, the brightness should be close to your existing LCD CCFL display, but only whiter. The only drawback you would get with a LED strip is the bright spots where LED is present and minor darker gaps. But this difference is not all that noticeable as light is diffused nicely on the screen.

This is among the best Kinect hacks we’ve seen so far and to add to the goodness, its Open source and available for you to try with any of the supported applications.

Using your hand gestures, you can flick though photo albums, zoom and pan, and what not. Its like full two hand multitouch, without touching.

The project is called ROS Kinect and source code is available here.
Its not perfect, but it serves the purpose pretty precisely. The detection process distinguishes hands and fingers at 30 frames per second to allow for real time gesture interaction with almost any application.

Due to some unknown reasons, Google has restricted the powerful Navigation capabilities just to US. StreetView of course is just available to few countries, but Navigation does so many things, so nicely.

Developer Brut.all hacked the Google Maps android apk using reverse engineering tools to enable navigation and few other customizations. But the latest tweak post on XDA lets you do it yourself, with minor effort. And of course if you are lazy enough or n00b, you can download it straightforward.

Pre-requisites: A Rooted Android phone: Use any of our easy rooting guides.

Method I: (Easy) Uninstall existing Maps from Applications. Download and install this APK. (Might work without ROOT)

Method II: Works with any Official Google Maps version

Using Titanium Backup, select Maps and make a backup. Then, select Maps and wipe data, after that uninstall, continue by selecting Street View and wipe data, then uninstall. Now install Google Maps 5.2.1 ownhere-resign.apk provided, go to market, and reinstall street view.

Caffeine is perhaps the tiniest app that you can use to prevent all sorts of screen dimming & sleep related troubles. It prevents your Mac, macbook pro, macbook Air from automatically going to sleep, dimming the screen or starting screen savers. It can be activated or deactivated by clicking on the Menu bar, its that easy.

How to UnBan PSN account

This is bound to work for accounts for which the PSN errors out with error number 8002A227.

Downloads: PS3DNS-GUI and PSID.

1. Run PS3DNS-GUI and choose your IP and region.
2. Go to Tools – Rewrite – PS3DNS – eth0 – Rules – Add
3. Enter every field just as it is in the image below. The part that says ‘original console ID’ will need the ID from the banned machine, No spaces!
4. Change the last digit of your ID to 1.
5. Hit OK.
6. On your PS3 and in your network settings, enter your DNS as your PC’s IP. Turn on Proxy and enter your PCs IP as the Host and 8888 in Port.
7. Try to log in to PSN – you should sign in fine.
8. Open PSID and click Square. This changes your console ID to a random one.
9. You should now be able to enter the PSN Store.
10. Confirm that you have your original console ID in PSID.

Note: Playstation Home doesn’t work with this method, I am working in getting it work.
