Youtube had rolled out a number of editing features last year that let you trim, drag n drop videos, add custom music. All of those features were available in TestTube. And now YouTube offers more in the new Youtube Editor.

Youtube Editor allows for the editing of all videos which haven’t yet managed to gain 1,000 views, which is the vast majority. Those which have become popular will be left intact, with a new post-edit video uploaded alongside it. You can now stabilize handheld footage, rotate a video, and boost the contrast, colors, and lighting. Clicking Google favorite ‘I’m Feeling Lucky’ will do the final three things in one.

The Android video call app works over Wi-Fi or 3G/4G data connections, no hacks needed.

Skype 2.0 gets a complete redesign of interface, other than improved support for Phone calling, and SMS. There’s a new main menu on the Skype app for Android where users can navigate easily through their contacts, access their Skype profile to change personal details or see the balance of their Skype Credit. Skype also gets a bit social by letting users set mood message.

Video calling for Skype isn’t supported on all devices, right now it would just work with the HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro and the Google Nexus S. More phones soon. Hopefully we would find a hack to Enable Skype video on any android phone, soon.

AirPlay barely allows 720p video out and that too just with iOS devices. To get the full experience, get ready for some hacking with an external hardware tied to the iPad. This is done using a wireless HDMI transmitter, USB battery pack, and a home-made enclosure that “only adds about two pounds of weight” to the otherwise portable device. Even you can do it yourself without much effort .

Lets hope that a Jailbreak hack comes in that lets you stream 1080p over Wifi using DLNA to your HDTV. Oh yea, your wireless router might peak out even on Wireless N router.

Peer-to-peer streaming i.e.  voice/video frames are streamed directly between peers, without any server in between is actually possible with HTML5 specification. The result is lower latency and optimal network utilization.

ConnectionPeer API

ConnectionPeer API is under works for establishing direct connection between two peers, which is web browsers in this case. ConnectionPeer is a very thin protocol as it shunts out signaling and connection stuff to traditional HTTP.

ConnectionPeer establishes peer-to-peer connectivity, using the following steps:

1. Each peer sends out its own reachability information using the getLocalConfiguration method.
2. Next, they add the information about the other peer (obtained typically over HTTPS from the chat server) using addRemoteConfiguration method.
3. Next, p2p connection is established, allowing for streaming data to be exchanged between the peers. When established, an onConnect event is generated and allows the application to respond with the data it wants to send out. ConnectionPeer includes methods for streaming data over the connection. These are used to add real-time voice and video streams and even HTML5 p2p file transfers.

The ConnectionPeer works almost everywhere, whether you are behind proxy, NAT or firewall. Whether you are on a desktop browser or a mobile (Android, iPhone, Blackberry), it doesn’t care, works on all WebKit browsers.

The good part of the whole story is that  IETF and W3C are standardizing this peer-to-peer support in browsers to enable real-time voice and video communication without plug-ins.

Code snippet:

Swarmplayer is one of the examples of doing HTML5 p2p video. It adds a P2P transport protocol to Firefox that allows <video src=”p2p://” > functionality. P2P transport is BitTorrent compatible.

You can now get Facetime on iPad using a hack named “Intell“. This, of course, takes you half way there coz iPad doesn’t have an actual camera, but you would still be able to see the other party, and have voice from your end transmitted still be able to hear you.

Step 1: SSH to your iPad with credentials root/alpine. Rename Conference.framework to ConferenceiPad.framework and IMCore.framework to IMCoreiPad.framework and Upload the Conference.framework and IMCore.frameworks from the iPod ouch 4 or iPhone 4 to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ of iPad.

Step 2: Navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/ and download the K48AP.plist for editing. Add the following code under the <capabilities> array and upload the modified version to SpringBoard.app on the iPad replacing the unmodified version

Step 8: To get the sounds woking navigate to /System/Library/Audio/UISounds/ and put vc~ended.caf, vc~invitation-accepted.caf, and vc~ringing.caf from the iDevice 4 into the iPad’s UISounds folder.

Step 9: Navigate to /Applications/Preferences.app/ and download the Settings.plist

Step 10: Remove the requieredCapabilites key from item number 26, save, then replace the version on the iPad with modified version.

Step 11: Edit the info.plist in the MobilePhone.app that is from the iDevice 4. Change CFBundleDisplayName~ipod to CFBundleDisplayName~ipad, CFBundleIconFiles~ipod to CFBundleIconFiles~ipad, CFBundleURLTypes~ipod to CFBundleURLTypes~ipad, UILaunchImageFile~ipod to UILaunchImageFile~ipad, and add a 2 to the UIDeivceFamily array

Step 12: Replace the Default~ipod.png with this.

Step 13: Navigate to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/TelephonyUI.Framework/ and rename bottombarknobgreen.png to bottombarknobgreenT.png

Turn your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch into AirPlay Speakers.

If you were bedazzled with AirVideo’s ability to stream music/videos from your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch to other Apple devices, its time for you to extend it further and make the reverse possible.

AirView turns your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch into an AirPlay Speakers enabling you to watch an AirPlay stream on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch coming from another iDevice.

It works perfectly in testing, with one big caveat: the app is for video-only. You can’t stream audio (although movie audio is transmitted, of course). This means you can’t use an old, broken iPod Touch as a makeshift AirPort Express. Not yet, anyway.

1. Launch AirView and from another iDevice, tap the AirPlay icon on the YouTube media player ( or any other AirPlay compatible app, learn about enabling all apps with AirVideo)

Skype’s official iOS client has finally sprouted the ability to make video calls, allowing iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and fourth-generation iPod touch users to share real-time video amongst each other and users of Skype’s Windows, Mac, and Linux clients along with the ASUS Videophone. Additionally, you’ll be able to receive video from others if you’re using an iPad or a third-generation iPod touch.

It actually surprises how Apple approved it, knowing that it would hurt Facetime big time!

There’s no word on when Skype will be making Video available on Android or other mobile platforms, but Skype says that there’ll be “plenty more” announcements at CES, so holdback with us as we catch the live action.

Stage Video API delivers best-in-class, high performance video playback across platforms. Flash Player 10.1 had support for hardware decoding of H.264 content, arguably the most taxing part of playing back video.
The new API uses the GPU rather than the CPU for even more stages (hence the name) of the video rendering pipeline, including color conversion, scaling and blitting. So how much CPU will it use now for playing 1080p HD videos? NIL. Yes, for most cases, when available is fairly good, you will have almost no processing on CPU.

However, to take the full advantage of the Stage API, Content providers have to update their video players. Just because Adobe has good partnership with Google, expect them to be rolling out soon on Youtube and Android. From what we’ve heard it is already available on Google TVs and under test with Youtube.

The new beta also includes Internet Explorer 9 hardware acceleration support , enhanced text rendering, a native custom mouse cursors API and support for full screen playback with multiple monitors.
Flash Player will also use the GPU to render other graphic elements leading to a performance boost of up to 35 percent in some cases. Apart from that, users will be able to watch a full-screen flash content on multiple monitors.

Ortustech, a relatively unpopular brand, has unveild the world’s smallest full HD TFT display sizing only 4.8-inch.

Ortustech is a joint venture of Casio & Toppan. The panel developed does 1080p in under 5″ display using the “HAST (Hyper Amorphous Silicon TFT), which is based on microfabrication technology, liquid crystal alignment technology, a driving technique was achieved by evolution. The resolution hence achieved is 458ppi, which is way higher than iPhone’s 326ppi.

If we go by apple’s claims, Ortustech’s display is way higher than human eye’s capacity. On the other fronts, Viewing angle up / down left and right 160 degrees with Color depth of 16.77 million colors, NTSC 72% color gamut.

The panel will be announced on November 9 in Munich, Germany and to be exhibited in February, next year.

However, it still pales in comparison to that little 546ppi panel Casio announced back in 2008, which still hasn’t been announced.

IP Video conference can be easily hacked using a freeware tool that allows attackers to monitor calls in real-time and record Video files.

The original exploit was first demonstrated more than a year ago, but sadly, most corporate networks are still vulnerable to it, says Jason Ostrom, director of VIPER Lab at VoIP vendor Sipera, where he performs penetration tests on clients’ business VoIP networks.

He says he sees only 5% of these networks are properly configured to block this attack, which can yield audio and video files of entire conversations. “I almost never see encryption turned on,” he says.

Only about one in 20 organizations secures its IP video with encryption or other measures, according to Sipera’s research, so IP video is ripe for attack. Ostrom and fellow researcher Arjun Sambamoorthy used a pair of homegrown open-source tools to perform the hacks at Defcon, which performs video eavesdropping, and VideoJak, which intercepts and replays video.

However, the attacker needs physical access to the IP network to execute these hacks, the researchers say, as well as access to a VLAN port on which the video application resides.

Ostrom demonstrated the attack at the Forrester Security Forum in Boston last week using a Cisco switch, two Polycom videophone and a laptop armed with a hacking tool called UCSniff that he pulled together from open source tools.

How VoIP, IP video hack works

Hacker needs to get access to a VoIP phone jack to which he plugs a laptop with the hacking tool- UCSniff. Using address-resolution protocol (ARP) spoofing, the device gathers the corporate VoIP directory, giving the hacker the ability to keep an eye on any phone and to intercept its calls. There’s a tool within UCSniff called ACE that simplifies capturing the corporate directory.

Once intercepted, the audio and video from the targeted call flow through the laptop, where it can be viewed as it streams by and also where it is recorded in separate files, one for each end of the conversation, Ostrom says.

They used UCSniff to record a ‘safe’ video stream, then converted it to an AVI file. Then we used the VideoJak tool that also supports man-in-the-middle,” he says. VideoJak intercepts the video stream, and replaces it with a malicious or phony video payload.

So, for instance, a bad guy could replace a surveillance feed of his breaking into the CEO’s office with a routine clip trained on the office door, with no sign of the break-in.

How to Prevent VoIP, Video Conference Hacking?

The strongest answer — apply Encryption for both signaling and media. The problem isn’t with the networking or VoIP and video gear itself, but rather with how they are configured in the network.

The scary thing is, 70% of the networks tested by pen-testers are vulnerable to toll fraud attacks that use the corporate network as a proxy for make long distance calls.

Starting at 8:00 a.m. PT, Youtube had begun a limited trial of a new live streaming platform in conjunction with partners: Howcast, Next New Networks, Rocketboom and Young Hollywood.

The system is easy to setup, all broadcasters need is a webcam or external USB/FireWire camera. Also, youtube is testing Live comments which lets you engage with the broadcaster and the broader YouTube community.

YouTube had already provided live-streaming with live matches from the Indian Premier league(IPL) and the White House, but this new platform attempts to simplify streaming “directly into YouTube channels.

Right now, the question is – Is it going to try to compete with the more niche live-streaming players such as Ustream. So far, it doesn’t seem likely, as the company’s release continually emphasized that it would be working with partners.  But we will have to wait to see.

Facebook Live will have its launch party with special appearance from actress America Ferrera.  In addition to special celebrity-oriented videos like today’s, the live video channel will also be used for official Facebook announcements, press events, live chats with Facebook engineers and live streaming of its developer conference, f8.

Till now it wasn’t possible to Watch Hulu Videos outside USA without proxy. With proxies enabled, video streaming sucks across the seas and the result is a choppy video even on highbandwidth connections.

How to Watch Hulu Videos Outside USA without Proxy

Step 1. Install this Firefox addon that lets you modify the request headers to Hulu.com. Once installed, go to Tools > Modify Headers in Firefox and add a new filter by clicking on the drop-down menu and hitting “add”. In the first box, type X-Forwarded-For and in the second box, type in the IP adddress of any US web site. Leave the third box blank, and then save and enable the filter.

Step 2. Hulu uses TCP and UDP port 1935 to create conenctions with Flash based clients which locate your current position in the world. We will have to block these:

On Mac OS

Fireup terminal and enter these commands:

sudo ipfw add 0 deny tcp from any to any 1935
sudo ipfw add 0 deny udp from any to any 1935

On Linux

Install iptables and use these comamnds:

iptables -A INPUT -p tcp –dport 1935 -j DROP
iptables -A INPUT -p udp –dport 1935 -j DROP

On Windows

Goto your network interface’s properties and enable Firewall (if not already) and add a new rule to block the specified ports.

In general this method is succesful with any kind of websites that impose Restrictions for US only. However, undo these changes when visiting other flash based sites since it can block most flash videos.
