Android Ice Cream Release Date
Google will release the next version of its mobile phone operating system, Android 2.4, in the summer. Android Ice cream would be announced around the June/July timeframe with the Google I/O 2011, Google’s annual international developer conference.
The news is based on Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, supposedly running the yet-to-be-announced mobile OS, was found on the show floor at CES. Sony XPERIA arc was actually running Android 2.4, our sources have confirmed that the new OS is coming. Some exhibits at Sony also talked about some of the features it might be getting.
However, there are rumors that indicate a different OS number. It is said that Android Ice cream might be version 4.0 instead of 2.4. This was disclosed by the president of ARM Tudor Brown in an interview to Forbes. Between Android 3.0, and Android 4.0, Google will release an interim version, which has been named as Honeycomb. Going by that rumor, it will be denoted by the Android 3.5.
So Why the Name Android Ice Cream?
Android has been releasing all sweet-dishes since its 2.x versions. Former names: Donut (D), Eclair (E), Froyo (F), Gingerbread (G) and Honeycomb (H) with the next iteration in the list of releases Ice Cream (I).
With Honeycomb announced in January, 6 months gap for 32nd announcement falls exactly inline with June/July rumors.
While Honeycomb is unlikely to make it onto mobile phones, instead staying on awesome Tablet devices like the Motorola Xoom.
