Android Voice Search Actions, Your personal assistant

We no longer need those personal assisitants, thanks to our smartphones, they are good at organizing and fitting our most needs. But the segment that is still shadowed is the ability of your phone to understand your natural language.

Siri was the first attempt on this, which made its way to the iPhone platform, later Apple saw some solid potential and that’s why they bought the company. Now google is doing the same to the Android platform, but its way better.

Voice Actions are a series of spoken natural voice commands that let you control your phone using your voice. Call businesses and contacts, send texts and email, listen to music, browse the web, and complete common tasks, all just by speaking into your phone.

The possibilities are amazing. You can listen to any song, on the web, navigate using maps to ay place and several other stuff just by speaking it.

How to use it: Download the widgets using the QR codes below (voice search, Search widget)

and when installed, tap the microphone button on the Google search box on your home screen, or press down for a few seconds on the physical search button on your phone to activate the “Speak Now” screen.

Here’s a video demonstration for highlighting the possibilities:

Right now, it will do the below mentioned commands:

send text to [contact] [message]
listen to [artist/song/album]
call [business]
call [contact]
send email to [contact] [message]
go to [website]
note to self [note]
navigate to [location/business name]
directions to [location/business name]
map of [location]

Apart from this, Google is adding a Google search widget for Android which is location aware, provides local results as you type. And yes, it works only on Android 2.2 froyo.
