Dev-Team has released a new version of Redsn0w that gives you Tethered Jailbreak on A4 devices on iOS 6 final.
In order to continue, make sure you’re fully backed-up. Although redsn0w does no harm to your data, but its worth spending few minutes safeguarding your data.
This Jailbreak is for A4 iOS devices:
- iPhone 4 on iOS 6
- iPhone 3GS on iOS 6
- iPod Touch 4th gen on iOS 6.
Few facts
- This a tethered jailbreak, you will have to tethered boot everytime.
- iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3 (New iPad) and iPod touch 5th-gen would be supported soon.
- No Unlock available for iOS 6 yet.
How to Jailbreak iOS 6 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod Touch
Download iOS 6 for your device:
Step 1: Update to iOS 6, if you havent already using iTunes 10.7 only.
Step 2: Download Redsn0w Windows/Mac and extract contents to folder of your choice.
Step 3:
Windows: Run the exe as administrator.
Mac OSX: Double click to open. If you are on OS X Mountain Lion, right click “show package contents” > “mac os” > right click on redsn0w, open with Terminal.
Step 4: In redsn0w, select the Extras and select your IPSW file for iOS 6. Follow the onscreen instructions to put your iOS device into DFU mode. Jailbreak would finish within few second.
How To install Cydia on iOS 6
You will have to install Cydia manually by using the Terminal on Mac or Commandline on windows. Keep any of s=your favorite SSH tools handy e.g. cyberduck, winSCP on windows.
Instructions for Mac OSX are as below, windows should be very similar:
Step 1. Go to General > Wifi and note down IP address of your iOS 6 device.
Step 2. Enter following on Terminal, or use a GUI based tool to do the equivalent:
ssh root@<IP address of your iOS device>
- Type “alpine” without quotes for password.
- Next, type the following command to download and install Cydia on iOS:
wget -q -O /tmp/cyinstall.sh http://downloads.kr1sis.net/cyinstall.sh && chmod 755 /tmp/cyinstall.sh && /tmp/cyinstall.sh
When done, the device will reboot and Cydia would be available on your Homescreen.
How To boot Tethered into iOS 6
Launch Redsn0w > click on the “Extras” > “Just Boot” option and follow the on-screen instructions. This will Tethered boot your iOS 6 device.
