With this update, iPhone 3G and 3GS gets baseband upgrades and none for iPhone 2G. This method works only for iPhone 2g, iPod Touch.
Note for iPhone 3G and 3GS Users: We strongly suggest that you stay away from this official upgrade until and unless the DevTeam or GeoHot releases new jailbreaking and unlocking tools for 3.1.3 firmware. Stay tuned @taranfx for updates.
How to Jailbreak, unlock iPhone/iPod

- Mac OS
- iPhone OS 3.1.3
- iPhone OS 3.1.2 (yes, it’s needed)
Note: In case you wish to unlock an iPhone EDGE, download Bootloader: bl39.bin and bl46.bin
Step 1. Connect the iPhone to PC/Mac and update your iPhone 2G to firmware 3.1.3 from iTunes.
Step 2. Launch Redsn0won and Browse and select firmware 3.1.2 and click next.
Step 3. It will start an automatic process (and very fast) which will be downloaded and patched the kernel.
After that, you would see a new screen with Cydia already selected.
- Verbose Boot: Will show Full command line boot process (optional)
- Custom Boot Logo: Replace apple logo with your own (320X480). (optional)
- Already Pwned: Select it if you have selected anything above. (mandatory if above ones are selected)
Step 4. Now you will be asked to put the iPhone, iPod in Recovery Mode or DFU
How to put your iPhone in recovery mode :
Turn the device off, Hold down the home button. While holding down the home button connect to a computer with a cable. Keep holding down the home button until you see a connect-to-iTunes screen You are now in recovery mode.
To escape Recovery Mode and power the phone off simply hold down power and home buttons for ten seconds.
Step 5. Once you are in recovery mode/dfu mode redsn0w will start another automated process to complete the Jailbreak.
