Samsung Galaxy Tab Review vs iPad [Android Tablet]

After having seen a number of Tablets, this is the first one that actually beats the iPad, atleast on most of the stuff.
Samsung has gone beyond expectations with its Galaxy Tab 7-inch Android tablet.
Let’s begin with the specs and then nail down to the Overall experience of the device:
Samsung Tab Hardware Specs
  • OS: Android 2.2 running Samsung TouchWiz 3.0
  • Display: 7-inch TFT LCD with 1024 x 600 resolution (WSVGA)
  • Processor: 1GHz Cortex A8 processor
  • Graphics: PowerVR SGX540 GPU—the same one used in their Galaxy S phone
  • Storage Memory: 16GB or 32GB internal storage, microSD expansion for up to 32GB additional storage
  • RAM: 512MB
  • Camera: Front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera and rear 3 megapixel camera with flash. Inbuilt video chat.
  • Battery: 4,000mAh battery, 7 hours of Video Play.
  • Data: 3G data / voice , 5GHz dual-band 802.11n WiFi
  • Multimedia: Full HD video playback
  • Connectivity A 30-pin dock connector on the bottom that allows for HDMI, USB, and docking accessories (a car dock at least is planned)
  • Weight: 380 grams
  • Size: 190 x 120 x 12 mm
  • Sensors: Gyroscope, Geo magnetic sensor, accelerometer, Light sensor.

Overall Feel

It’s good looking  solidly built, lightweight , and glossy to the max Tablet that you can’t resisit. The screen is great, though Samsung has managed to make this LCD look just as oversaturated as its AMOLEDs, pixel density the screen is higher than  iPad and any other Tablet of its size.
Capacitive touch is excellent, as good as the iPad’s magical touch. The best part is it’s responsiveness. The tablet is lightnign fast with apps just craving to be run in a blink. In the hand, its much better suited to supporting with a single hand than the iPad, and seems to squarely best that competitor when it comes to all things e-reading.
The Operating System

It runs on ttop of ANDROID Froyo which gives it the power to run apps lightning fast. But, Android isn’t really “ready” for tablets. It’s still a smartphone OS made suitable for bigger screens by vendors like Samsung. Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 does a good job at filling the gaps by introducing some great hacks to the OS and some screen adaptive apps, suited for the larger form factors.

They have done a good job with calendar app, an email app that has a dual pane view in landscape  (like the iPad), a messaging app, a Media Hub music store and player, an e-reading launcher app (powered by PressDisplay for newspapers, Kobo for e-books, and Zinio for magazines), and more. A custom dialer app includes fancy contact browsing and a video call button right up front. Samsung supports the UMTS video calling standard, but since that’s not a thing in the US, we’ll have to look to third party providers such as Qik to get our video calling on.

Samsung claims that apps can be developed using the standard SDK with minor tweaks. However, will there be enough apps for the Galaxy S Tab to make it as convincing as the iPad?
