Back in time, Microsoft Songsmith promised an app that could mix and match your song with an appropriate jingle to compose a joyful song. No doubt, as tech crunch states it — “it was an utter failure“.
LaDiDa is an iPhone app that would spice up your voice and give you a reverse-karaoke song nicely done with matching music. Getting started is as hard as choosing among the three genres of songs: Pop, Rhythm Synth, Dub Tone and estimated beats per minute (BPM).
Have a look at the video, it would all start making sense:
Ku.Sh believes that LaDiDa tries to enable commercialization of tools that make it easy even for non-musicians to create tunes by providing sophisticated backing tracks in various styles. Sing into the iPhone over a metronomic beat, and the software figures out what key you’re in, what mode is being used (major, minor, mixolydian, etc.), whether song sections are being repeated, and what chord progressions might work well underneath the melody line.
LaDiDa may not yet be a truly serious music creation tool, but I’m hopeful to see similar, yet better, tools in the future. In future you don’t have to be gifted to be a singer, software would enable the “Magic”.
