It was yesterday when we talked about future of Gesture based Input for Computer. Today comes more from none other than Guru of User Interface: Apple.
Apple has new Patent that aims on controlling user’s preferences with the flick of a head. Things like controlling volume and automatically apply user’s preferences, and de-emphasize or skip songs the user seldom listens to, would be automatic. MacRumors points out a second patent which would also alert users when there’s not enough battery life left to play the movie they’ve just selected and offer to downgrade the video quality and/or reduce the brightness levels to try and get the whole thing in anyway.
This Apple patent application looks very much like something Johnny Chung Lee pieced together with a Wiimote way back in 2007. Have a look:
Filed for in June 2008, the patent is for a system tracking the location of the user’s head and responding to his movements in a fashion that should generate a realistic three-dimensional viewing experience. That means Apple will need a new branding scheme should this application turn into a real product — Integrating it into mobile device, iPhone 4G,: makes little sense. Shall we expect this for iTablet ? or a Mac Pro or more evidently a New Product line?
What do you think?
