Stream Music, Video from Android to PC [Windows, Mac OSX, Linux]

Chromecast dongle lets you stream music, video, chrome tabs from Android, PC to an HDTV with HDMI input. But it isn’t a system wide streaming, it rather works only with apps that choose to support it e.g. YouTube, Hulu, Play Music.

With simple suite of apps and mods, you can Stream ANY Music, Video from your Android device on to another Android (OUYA, Any Android TV dongle, Google TV) or PC (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux) without hassles.

So there are two sides where you need apps installed:

  1. Source host (Android) – The device which has the Music, Video content.
  2. Destination host – ChromeCast server (Android or PC) – The device to which Music, video content will be streamed and played.

Source Host:

Option 0: If you’re on Stock OEM ROM, you can still use apps like NetFlix, YouTube, Hulu, Google Play Music, Movies, etc to stream to ChromeCast server.

Note: If you wish to have it work with all apps, proceed to Option 1, 2.

Option 1:  AirCast (Update: No longer works) – Install this app on your Android phone and any Media file (Audio, Video) when shared from standard Android share Intent, is compatible.

Option 2: Cyanogenmod 10.2 – The latest Cyanogenmod nightlies has a feature of letting you stream any content to ChromeCast device.
