Just as with under-clocking, Apple had crippled Wireless iPhone, iPod Touch Sync to save on battery life. No wonder, it was part of the plan, but, speed restrictions plus battery concerns were enough for them to step backwards.
Don’t worry, the 3rd part app called WiFi Sync will give you Wireless Sync for iPhone with iTunes on Mac, Windows (soon), just by jailbreaking your iPhone. The app is available in Cydia store at $9.99 and does everything without a glitch.
Of course the sync is way slower than the USB connection, but, is handy when you are syncing small data like: few apps, songs or playlists and more justified When you are too lazy to get a hold of USB cable.
To benchmark the data tranasfers on WiFi, I took a 30MB MP3 file and synced it over Wifi to my iPhone. It took around 40seconds. That gives us approx speed of 750KBps (or 6 Mbps) which way less than 5MBps (40mbps) I’ve seen with USB sync, but, still not a bad deal for the convenience.
