The Notch on Smartphones was born out of a need to make the reigning narrow bordered phones to come to reality. However, it has had some controversies concerning the design. Therefore, in order to get rid of the notch, smartphone manufacturers have begun experimenting with innovative ideas such as mechanical sliders, dual screens and pop-up selfies. However, despite all these, no one has been able quite cut it and creative a groundbreaking innovation.
Talking about innovations and ground-breaking inventions, the under-selfie camera is in that mold. Guess what? It’s Oppo and Xiaomi that have managed to achieve this feat that many would have thought impossible; a selfie camera that’s hidden under an OLED display. This is just what you can describe simply as elegant. Oppo announced that for those seeking a notchless smartphone screen experience, they should be prepared to be amazed. It is not entirely clear when this technology will be put into phones but with the competition in the mobile industry, it is expected to launch in 2020.
Concerning the Under-display selfie camera, it is clear that the camera used on the front of the phone is hidden behind the screen glass and is almost invisible to the eye. By using this innovation, there is no need to use a notch, cut-out or hole-punch in the screen. Also, the in-display system is sophisticated as it does not depend on mechanical parts to function which makes it a more preferred option than the alternatives that are currently in use. It is however not clear what other features have been sacrificed in order to bring the Under-display camera to reality. It is a known fact that the space in a phone is superb. However, this new feature may have a telling effect on the size of the battery, need larger bezels in order to house phone components or possibly redesigning the phone that will house the Under-display camera completely
By putting the camera behind the screen, it automatically joins the fingerprint sensors and speakers as features of smartphones that were not making them such a spectacle to behold before. However, with this, such a thing can never happen again.
