Hulu is the most popular online video portal for OnDemand TV Programs online in US. But Why should the rest of the world live in the dark?

Till now it wasn’t possible to Watch Hulu Videos outside USA without proxy. With proxies enabled, video streaming sucks across the seas and the result is a choppy video even on highbandwidth connections.

How to Watch Hulu Videos Outside USA without Proxy

Step 1. Install this Firefox addon that lets you modify the request headers to Hulu.com. Once installed, go to Tools > Modify Headers in Firefox and add a new filter by clicking on the drop-down menu and hitting “add”. In the first box, type X-Forwarded-For and in the second box, type in the IP adddress of any US web site. Leave the third box blank, and then save and enable the filter.

Step 2. Hulu uses TCP and UDP port 1935 to create conenctions with Flash based clients which locate your current position in the world. We will have to block these:

On Mac OS

Fireup terminal and enter these commands:

sudo ipfw add 0 deny tcp from any to any 1935
sudo ipfw add 0 deny udp from any to any 1935

On Linux

Install iptables and use these comamnds:

iptables -A INPUT -p tcp –dport 1935 -j DROP
iptables -A INPUT -p udp –dport 1935 -j DROP

On Windows

Goto your network interface’s properties and enable Firewall (if not already) and add a new rule to block the specified ports.

In general this method is succesful with any kind of websites that impose Restrictions for US only. However, undo these changes when visiting other flash based sites since it can block most flash videos.

  4. Not working for me. Anyone has an IP that will work? I believe the port blocking stops the viewing from working, because upon removing the Firewall block it showed me I cannot play this from my geographical region.

    • Similar situation here. I can watch some of the commercials but when it comes to actual content I see a message that says “Sorry blah blah blah. Please check your internet connection”. If I remove the port restriction I get the out side of the U.S. message.

  5. Hi there. I need help with making purchases of Amazon.com or on the PS3 movies (mostly Amazon). I cannot make purchase of any music or videos off Amazon because it gives me the geographic error or it tells me that the service is not provided for residents that's outside of the US. Please I need help with this. Thank you.

  6. seems vpn is still the best way to access stuff from outside the US. I guess ill have to stick with my hidemynet vpn account for awhile longer. I wish hulu would just allow worldwide viewers already. I doubt that will ever happen due to licensing restrictions.

    • Didn't work for me too. I think Hulu might be using more than one port number to find our location info. Or do they check it using the timezone?

  11. Thanks for this. Everytime I reboot it resets my windows route settings :(. I ended up getting a VPN service from hidemynet so far everything working great. Have you tried a cheap VPN solution instead?

    I was wondering if you can tell me though how do you know that  Hulu uses TCP and UDP port 1935?
    What is the method to find out which port is being used by my VOD provider to track my location?

  13. I have found a great solution that you can test out. It allows me to access the best US TV, video, movies.  It’s called GetUSAWebsites.TV   and if you use the code 9006 you can try it  for free.
