Apple iPad Pro 12.9 inch -Review

Apple’s iPhones may be subjected to fierce competition in the smartphone space, but when it comes to tablets, the company is still King! The new iPad Pro 12.9 takes the important cues from its predecessor – the iPad 11 Pro, but draws on myriad new improvements in terms of design and performance.

iPad Pro 12.9 Inch Design

The iPad Pro 12.9 Inch still features an imposing design just like the iPad Pro (1st generation) released in 2015, only this time around its because of its immersive display. Apple’s has blasted away the big bezels to welcome a display that fills its entire footprint.

The display of the 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 inch is simply stunning to say the least, even better than the iPhone XR. This Liquid Retina Display is not only brilliantly sharp, but also boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, and supports HDR video. The 120Hz refresh rate of the latest 12.9 inch iPad Pro also enhances UI responsiveness, and is treat to the eyes when watching media on Netflix, YouTube, etc. That’s however not the only thing this beautiful display is good for, but you can also read and create content, be it editing photos or videos.

The iPad Pro 12.9 Inch gets rid of the Home Button in exchange for a Face ID scanner to achieve its slim and lightweight design of 11 x 8.4 x 0.23 inches and 1.39 lbs (1.4 pounds for the LTE model). The other noteworthy change in the design of the iPad Pro 12.9 Inch is its USB-C port, which allows users to connect the device with digital cameras, external monitor up to 5k resolution and other devices.

The 12.9 Inch iPad Pro is equipped with a four-speaker audio system, which is much louder and cleared than other tablets in its segment. In terms of cameras, the iPad Pro 12.9 Inch doesn’t disappoint with its onsite rear camera capable of 4K video recording, and a 7-megapixel front camera capable of Animoji and Memoji. Adding to this, the latest Apple 12.9” Pro tablet comes fitted with five microphones, which come handy for FaceTime calls as well as Siri Queries.

Apple Pencil

Apart from the significant changes in the design of the iPad Pro 12.9 Inch device, the Apple Pencil has received a makeover as well. Even though the package doesn’t include the Apple Pencil, this greatly improved stylus is a must-have for those who care about art and note-taking. The redesigned Apple Pencil has a built-in magnet that attaches to the tablet to charge.

The integrated magnet offers two-fold benefits – first attaching the pencil to the tablet ensures that is runs out of battery juice, and second keeps its within close reach. Additionally, the latest Apple Pencil now has a touch-sensitive area, from where users can double-tap to switch between various tools inside apps. More importantly, the Apple iPad stylus is a joy to draw and draft with, and offers a better grip compared to previous versions.

iPad Pro 12.9 Inch Performance

Under the hood of the iPad Pro 12.9 Inch lies a robust 7-nanometer A12X Bionic chip, which rings in with four performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. To accelerate the performance of the A12X, the Apple 12.9” Pro tablet packs in a new GPU, which delivers twice the graphics performance as the A10X processor included with the last iPad.

The Apple iPad 12.9” tablet runs iOS 12, out of the box, which is the latest stable iOS version across iPhones and iPads. iOS 12 still provides access to a large selection of third-party apps including an assortment of excellent art programs and text editors. And since the Apple iPad 12.9 inch Pro lacks a Home button, the gestures from the iPhone X series work particularly well on this massive screen.

This means that you can swipe up inside an app to go back the home screen, while swiping up and holdings lets you see all the running apps. Furthermore, the Control Center grabs a cozy spot in the top right corner of the screen, and is easily accessible by simply swiping down. Apart from the aforementioned gestures, you also get the traditional iPad iOS 11 multitasking gestures, which allow you to run app alongside or open up a floating window for more screen space.

iPad Pro 12.9 Inch Battery

The battery of the iPad Pro 12.9 inch when fully charged powers the device for roughly 14 hours, which is just two hours short of a long Delhi to San Francisco flight. On the downside, even though the device does offer USB-Type C charging, it doesn’t offer fast charging capabilities. But on a brighter note, the charged included in the box does charge the device pretty rapidly, so you can be up and running in no time once battery power runs low.

Pros:

  • New easy to hold design
  • Greatly improved Apple Pencil
  • USB-C charging
  • Beautiful Liquid Retina display
  • Blistering performance

Cons:

  • Lacks support for external storage
  • iOS feels limited
  • Power cable too short
  • Entry-level model has just 64GB of storage

The iPad Pro 12.9 inch tablet features an insanely fast A12X Bionic chipset, making it a great choice for light and intense tasks. It is compatible with the all new Apple Pencil, which on its own features a slew of design and performance improvements.

Adding to this, the 12.9 inch iPad Pro comes with a USB-C port rather than a classic Lightning connector, which allows users to complete more tasks easily. It is powered by the latest iOS 12 and a long lasting battery, and is a remarkable device that provides one stop access to industry leading gestures.
