Alternative careers to consider within Online Tech

Careers paths have changed dramatically over the last 10 years. Gone are the days when children grew up aspiring to one day be a fireman or a policeman, and their parents perhaps would have dreamt of different conventional career paths. If someone followed an artisanal trade, it would mean becoming a builder, carpenter or even a plumber.

The careers which present day kids pursue are less tangible and more abstract. People pursue careers that produce things, outputs or results, which we can never touch or feel, yet these jobs are still able to provide salaries and tangible incomes that provide money to live off. Every tech event you come across, you notice people talking about jobs of the future and preparing themselves accordingly. The kids and the education systems need to be able to meet the skills required for these jobs. Here are some career titles that are now recognized as mainstream jobs to pursue and which the next generation will consider for their future:

SEO guru

The person responsible for optimizing websites using back-linking and keywords. They also generate relevant and original content creation and ensure that search results bring you to the website even if it is through paid search.  If you’re studying in Australia, even if it’s online, you may want to become an SEO specialist Melbourne and try to establish your skills in the fast-growing online retail world.

Vlogger

Bloggers have been around for a while now but those taking the next generation by storm are video bloggers. Bloggers are now taking their blog content and making it into videos which are typically short, ranging between two and twenty minutes at most. Vloggers have really become savvy at driving a call to action during their videos either by asking viewers to go to a particular site, leaving a URL in the video description or with click-throughs on the video screen.

Coder

Pretty much of everything we see online has been coded by the Coders. It has been created using a different language per se that issues a string of commands that computer software can understand and interpret.

Social Media or Community managers

The platforms which people use to engage with are constantly morphing and adapting as the preferences of the public also morphs and adapts.  Regardless of the platform being used, someone needs to manage the inward and outward flow of correspondence.  This would be your social media manager, also known as a community manager.  Social media is where the brand of a company is humanised, and where people can interact and engage with it.

Influencer

Along with social media managers, there are other people out there that have built a following of fans, admirers or public groups that like to see what they are saying or sharing.  These people are commonly called ‘influencers’ or what was traditionally known as brand ambassadors.  Companies will make use of influencers who have built a large audience of followers who pay attention to what they share with the world and what their opinions are.
