When Apple launched Voice Control for iPhone 3GS, it left lots of previous generation owners thirsty. The reason being feature enables users to make phone calls and play music by using voice commands.
Did you the rising demand, we developers played around to get a hacked app that is a look-alike app for iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G which works and looks almost exactly as it is on iPhone 3GS.
You will need to have an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone for this to work. Pre-requisites:
Download WinSCP for Windows
Download CyberDuck for Mac
Download VoiceControl (zip) for iPhone 2G and 3G
Step 1: Install OpenSSH via Cydia if you haven’t already
Step 1: Open WinSCP or Cyberduck and enter the following details to login to your phone:
- Hostname: The IP address — Setting –> WiFi –> <Netowork>
- User name: root
- Password: alpine
Step 3: Unzip VoiceControl.zip and copy it to your iPhone in the /<root>/Applications directory.
Right-click on directory Voice Control.app >> Properties and change the permission to 755 while keeping “Set group, owner and permissions recursively” option selected
You are done! After the restart, you should now have a new app named “Voice Control” on your springboard. Start this new application on your iPhone 3G or 2G and simply search through your contacts, music and bookmarks by using voice commands just like iPhone 3GS!

i've tried all i can think of, but i can't even get the icon to show up in springboard… cyberduck has no “properties”, you right click for info, and you can't change the 755, but it's already there… so what can it be?

I've followed all the steps above in a 2G iPhone. The application was installed and its iicon is the screen, however it doesn't work. When I press the icon, it starts, flashes the screen and return to the main stream and no voice command is activated

I've Been Back And Forth Thru WinSCP Tryna Get This App 2 Work. I Put It In Da Root/App Dirctory And Nuthin. I Changed All Da Settings As Directed, Still Nothin. Da Only Time I Got Anything 2 Happen Was When I Put Da .App File In My User/App Directory And All That Happened Was Da Icon Popped Up, But When I Clicked It, It Flashed On And Right Back Off. Any Suggestions? Oh, And I'm On A JB 2g 3.1.2. Thanks In Advance

Is there any way you can get this working so that when you hold down the button on a bluetooth headset it launches the voice control app? (I use the Plantronics Discovery 975)
Thanks in advance,

While I got the Voice Control app to show up and running on iphone 2G with 3.1.3 firmware, the accuracy is HORRENDOUS. I also have an iphone 4 and I don't have a problem finding address book entries.

BTW, what is the __MACOSX directory for, and where should those go to? I put the whole directory under /Applications, but not sure if that is the right place. The app itself didn't have any complaints.
