LG G7 ThinQ is ‘Thought Applied’ upgrade over last year’s LG G6. Something similar to the LG V30 ThinQ as an upgrade over LG V30. And being a 2018 flagship phone, the G7 ThinQ ticks along all the boxes, namely the Notch.
While the LG G6 was the most underrated phones of 2017, it did take giant leaps like 18:9 aspect ratio in a screen resolution of 1440 x 2880 pixels. LG G7 Thinq raises the bar with 1440 x 3120 pixels resolution and an impressive aspect ratio of 19.5:9. As the screen is still IPS LCD, the pixel density remains similar to LG G6 at ~564 ppi. The Phone has Glass on both front and back and has an Aluminium frame. LG G7 does not have many stand-out features, which would have helped it in an already cluttered 2018 Flagship market. The distinguishing features include : Wide Angle Camera in the Dual Camera Setup, Wireless Charging, 3.5mm headphone jack, DTS-X sound, FM Radio and a dedicated Google Assistant button.
BODY: The dimensions of 153.2 x 71.9 x 7.9 mm take it closer to OnePlus 6 and make the likes of Galaxy S9 small. LG G7 ThinQ weighs only 162 grams considering the bulk of features it bears on it. This phone has both front and rear Gorilla Glass 5 protection and has an Aluminium Frame. And is IP68 certified for both Dust and Water resistance upto 1.5 meters for upto 30 minutes. The phone carries the legacy 3.5mm headphone jack and we are not complaining. Also the rear Dual camera alignment is vertical like the iPhone X, however the LED Flash and laser sesnor do not form part of the dual camera bump. On the right side we have the Power button and volume rockers are on the left side. Also, you’ll find a dedicated Google Assistant button on the left side of the phone. The button function can not be customized except for launching Google Assistant, as a competition to the Samsung Bixby button on the Galaxy S9.
The phone software settings allow for Notch removal. Not only that, you can decorate the Notch too.
DISPLAY: The LG G7 ThinQ has a gigantic 6.1 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen lashing out 1440 x 3120 pixels resolution. Which is among the highest of resolutions on any flagship smartphone. Moeover the ~564 ppi pixel density leaves the competition in dust. This isn’t an AMOLED display, yet come second to none in viewing pleasure. Screen is secured by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 tech which protects the screen from scratches and provides fall resistance to a certain extent. The screen-to-body ratio is maintained at ~82.6%. Also worth noticing is the very 2018 Notch design. The side Bezels are very thin, also the chin isn’t as big either.
UNDER THE HOOD: The LG G7 ThinQ runs on Octa-core (4×2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4×1.7 GHz Kryo 385 Silver) which is now a Gold Standard in all high performance 2018 smartphones. The processor is fitted on a Exynos Qualcomm SDM845 Snapdragon 845 with Adreno 630 GPU. This combination is completely in sync with all components and delivers fastest of performances in phones like the Samsung Galaxy S9 as well as the OnePlus 6.
Phone runs on Android 8 (Oreo) and is upgradable to Android 9 (P).
MEMORY: LG G7 is still one of the few phones left in the market that support expandable memory option (upto 400 GB). This expandable MicroSD slot replaces the SIM 2 slot in order to give a boost to internal memory. The phone come sin two memory combinations: A 128 GB internal memory edition with 6 GB RAM and a 64 GB internal memory edition with 4 GB RAM. Needless to say that the 6 GB RAM version handles multi-tasking pretty well.
CAMERA: Perhaps the only camera with rarest of Dual camera combination out there. The LG G7 ThinQ comes with a Dual first 16 MP (f/1.6, 1/3.1″) aperture along with Optical Image Stabilization and a second 16 MP (f/1.9, 1/3.1″) aperture something similar to a Fish eye. As already mentioned, the Laser sensor and LED Flash are placed outside the Dual Camera housing.
Like Huawei Honor series, LG has added AI capabilities to their Camera App. So when you point your camera towards an object, the Camera App will prompt you with 4 filter options and Exposure adjustment, Shutter speed, and more. Also, usr may look things up on Google through the Google Lens App to explore the world around them. This may be name so the streets, buildings or even Translate the text in local language to the user’s native language.
This unique dual Camera setup ensures adequate light capture in varied situations and deepest of Depths in the images.
The front camera is a 8 MP (f/1.9, aperture) camera. It can capture video upto 1080p @ 60fps.
BATTERY: The LG G7 ThinQ comes with wireless charging and it is quite fast. The Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery lasts upto a day. Usage consisted of : Office and personal Mails, WhatsApp, Facebook, 1 hr talktime, 1.5 hrs HD video playback on LTE network.
SOUND: LG G7 boasts of DTS-X sound, and is one of the few phones fitted with this audio tech. You will need headphones or external speakers to experience this piece of tech. Also, the Speaker housing allows for good Bass reverb and the whole phone vibrates for full high volume sound propagation. As per LG, they’ve enhanced Bass by upto 39% more in G7 as compared to G6.
The phone has FM radio and and NFC but no infrared port. The phone is available in 4 color options: Platium Grey, Aurora Black, Moroccan Blue, Raspberry Rose.
To spice up the offer, LG has offered Free Second Year Limited Warranty on the G7 ThinQ. Shows the commitment from the company and the trust on build quality of the phone.
