Tips on How to become a PUBG Pro

Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG as it is widely known) is a game where 100 players parachute onto a remote 8×8 km island for a winner-takes-all showdown. Players need to find and scavenge their own weapons, vehicles and supplies, and defeat every player in a graphically and strategically rich battleground that forces players into a decreasing play zone.

PUBG is not your normal shooting game. The goal is to survive, not to get the maximum kills – in fact you can win without getting a single kill – so you needs to adapt your usual shooting method. The winning strategy is stealth, the last man who survives wins. And in order to win you will need to play the game like a PRO. Get ready to land, loot, and do whatever it takes to survive and be the last man standing!

Your starting point is crucial

Since everyone starts each match aboard the same plane flying in the same direction over the same map, selecting where to start is vital. Getting your feet on the ground before your rival players is paramount in PUBG, especially if you’re headed to a destination with limited loot. Open the map and watch the course the aircraft is flying. As soon as you’re out of the plane, push forward on your controller and you will descend to the ground. This gets you to the ground faster and prevent you from drifting down at the same time others are gathering weapons and getting ready to slaughter you. Going for a major town, the military base, or other marked areas is risky since they probably attract a lot of early attention from different players. Instead, try landing in a remote place which is close to the coast (you don’t need to watch your back if it’s just the ocean behind you) or somewhere with high ground. Landing on apartment complexes are also clever considering the fact that every floor is like an entire home’s worth of loot.

Mastery of the map is vital

The map is your best friend because it shows you the game location, which shrinks through-out the game. You need to stay inside this location, or you’ll slowly die. Drop a marker on the map and you’ll see it in your compass to help you navigate to a safe area. You might need to zoom in as the game progresses, especially towards the final stages. The map can be a little bit difficult in PUBG at first. In addition to the island and the labelled towns, there are also differently colored circles to watch out for. As people move in vehicles or shoot, the map will show noise with orange marks. These indicate where enemy action is – so you can avoid it, observe it, or engage. The white circle is paramount to watch, together with the little timer on the right above your minimap, because it displays the next location of the larger blue circle.

The bigger blue circle marks the position of the giant sky-high wall of electrical death that slowly encircles everyone. If you’re not within the bounds of the blue circle you’ll slowly take damage until you die. At the beginning of the game it doesn’t hurt very much, however as the zone gets smaller, it gets more deadly.

Lastly, red circles are impending bomb zones in which the location might be bombarded for some seconds. It’s not a guaranteed death since the bombs could miss you, but you should stay away or indoors when you see it.

 Combat tactically

In PUBG when you die you’re out for the entire match. You have to make sure you’re checking and clearing buildings with caution. Approach doors tactically and assume danger is lurking in every corner. Find cover. Don’t stand in the open. This is the kind of game that will make you pay with your life if you make a stupid mistake like jumping out of a moving vehicle or looking through a window while a sniper is watching. Close doors, don’t leave them open. Not only does this help ensure you hear people enter a building you’re in when they open the door, but it also hides the fact that someone is there. You can close a door and ambush an unsuspecting player that way.

Use vehicles wisely

One of the ways to alert people of your presence is to drive around in a car or boat. It happens that those are also the quickest means to travel in the game. At the start of a match when there are more than forty people left, it’s probably fine. Everyone is busy scrambling to get sophisticated weapons during this stage.

But once you get to the smaller numbers which means everyone left has sophisticated weapons and can take you out if you drive by in a vehicle and announce your location. Abandon vehicles as soon as you have good ammunition.

Remember the goal of the game is to survive. If you want to win, you can do so by acquiring your weapons, staying out of danger and killing the last few people. The goal isn’t to kill the most people, it’s to be the last player standing. Hiding and staying out of danger is also an effective way to do that. See you on the Battleground!
