The Apple of an “i”, the iOS 12 has a some game changing features and a couple of cool features and there are some ‘catch-up’ features too. Here are the Top 5 features of the iOS12 on the iPhone:
Support for Legacy iDevices : This is the single best feature of the iOS 12. Apple has realised the pain of older iDevice owners. Apple have continued support for devices like the iPhone 5S and later, iPad Mini 2 or later and iPad Air and later. So the users of legacy Apple devices will not be left in a lurch this time and not feel left behind.
Siri Shortcuts : Seems like instead of improving accuracy of Siri in order to make conversations more humanly, Apple has focused more on adding features to it. They’ve tried to make user’s daily chores a part of Siri. You can make your custom shortcuts by defining what set of actions need to be taken when a shortcut is executed. More like the “.BAT” file that initially made Microsoft Windows a wonder ware. You can name the shortcut and whenever you recite the phrase, the shortcut gets executed.
Notification Grouping : It’s a small life and there is so much to do before we go away. Grouped notifications is a big deal at a time when users are bombarded with notifications from the installed Apps. So now all notifications emanating from one App get collapsed into one set and can be viewed from the Lock screen directly. As you tap on the Group, the notifications stretch into a list and each one can be acted upon. But when you wish to Act on a specific notification, it takes you to the full App, still does not allow actions within the stack like Android.
Animoji – New Animojis added like Koala, Tiger, T-Rex and Ghost. Tongue detection like snapchat. And not only this, the Memoji which is an add-on to Animoji. As Apple puts it, the TrueDepth camera actually goes deep to analyze about 50 different muscle movements to mirror your expressions in 16 Animoji characters that come with iOS 12. All this is enhanced by the A11 Bionic processor on the iPhone X which escalates the augmented reality experiences in games and apps. In addition to the tongue, the Animoji also have Eye movement Detection which makes the experience much more realistic. Cheek movement, wrinkles and other face expressions seem to be the next step forward. You can also use them in FaceTime chats, hence replacing your own face with the Animoji.
Screentime : Basically a feature that tells you how Geeky you’ve become into using your phone. And asks you to buzz off for while and give your eyes and brain some rest. The App shows the logs regarding Total Screen Time, which App sent you how many notifications, etc. This is like bringing Rehab all the way to your phone and an attempt to save you from going to Rehab in the first place. Goto Settings > Screentime and you immediately see what activity on the iPhone has taken most of your time. You can set time limit on any specified App and iOS 12 will send you a notification requesting to stop using that App as you may have exhausted daily quota for it. The notification idoes not appear in the drawer, rather it appears as a splash screen when you click that App’s icon to open it and use it beyond limits. You can always bypass the screen by clicking “Ignore Limit” option on the screen and continue unscatched. The idea is very well put into practice though.
