Come 10th July, Google Photos is unhooking from Google Drive – Check what this means to you

What is happening on July 10, 2019?

Google Photos and Google Drive will no longer automatically sync. Which means that any changes that you make to your files (Images and Videos) stored on Google Photos will not reflect on Google Drive. E.g. at present, when you delete an image form Google Photos, the same gets deleted o Google Drive as well. This will cease to happen automatically July 10 onwards.

Additionally, when you visit photos.google.com, you will be able to copy your photos and videos from Google Drive to Google Photos.

You should also note that images copied between Drive and Photos in Original Quality will now be adding up into your storage quota.

What you need to be aware of

Any files and folders you have in Drive will remain and Deleting photos in one service will not delete them in the other. So if you delete one copy, the other will continue to take up storage space.

And last but not the least, in order to download your stuff (Videos and Images) from Google Photos, you can use the Download your data page.
