Huawei P30 Design

Speaking of design, the Huawei P30 Pro steps it up a few notches from the 6.1-inch panel seen on the P20 Pro to a larger, almost bezel-less 6.47-inch FHD+ resolution OLED display with an impressive 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

Further, this stunning display looks solid, and even though it isn’t the sharpest display you can get in the market right now, it is jaw dropping to say the least. This latest flagship device trims down the notch from the P20 Pro to a waterdrop notch, which packs a 32-megapixel front facing camera into the cut-out.

The P30 selfie camera takes on the likes of other high end flagships including Samsung’s Galaxy S10 range, with premium features, most notably its remarkable HDR technology and super-low light modes, which collectively result in crisp, clear and beautiful shots.

Tipping the scales at just 192 grams, the Huawei P30 Pro is a joy to hold with its smooth front and back glass design. But on the downside, this mirror glass back does attract fingerprints quickly and easily, so you may find yourself wiping it down often.

Even though the Huawei P30Pro is a pretty large device, its screen is considerably narrow at just 73.4 mm wide, making it easy to manage when compared to the competition.

The Huawei P30 pro lacks a headphone jack, and does not come with a USB Type-C to 3.5mm adapter, so you will have to buy it separately. On a brighter note, the device does feature an in-display fingerprint scanner to log into the device and complete other fingerprint centric transactions, and comes with does include a great pair of USB Type-C earphones.

In terms of colors, the Huawei P30 Pro doesn’t disappoint with its five different shimmering and stunning gradient finishes – Amber Sunrise, Breathing Crystal, Pearl White, Black and Aurora.

Features and Performance

As one would expect from any premium flagship, the Huawei P30 pro takes center stage with the latest operating system EMUI 9.1, which is based on the latest Android 9.0 Pie. Further, as good as it looks on the outside, the P30 Pro by Huawei packs a whole of punch under its hood with a robust Kirin 980 processor, 8 gigs of RAM and at least 128 GB of onsite storage.

Given its hardware configuration, the P30 Pro runs brilliantly, and offers all the features you’d expect from a premium flagship such as the ability to copy and paste something using standard “Ctrl + V” keyboard shortcut, and refined gesture navigation options.

Furthermore, the smart Huawei UI is designed to recognize frequently used apps and opens them quickly, resulting in a much more responsive performance. Adding to its expansive list of great features is fast-wired and fast-wireless charging, as well as reverse wireless charging to charge other wireless charging compatible devices.

Speaking of power, the P30 Pro from Huawei comes with a massive 4,200mAh battery, which when fully charged lasts approximately two full days with light to medium use.

Huawei P30 Pro Camera

The camera of the P30 Pro truly puts this device in a league of its own, given that it has been developed in partnership with Leica – A renowned manufacturer of cameras and sport optics products.

The device is equipped with a total of four cameras on its rear, all unique from each other. To list their configurations, you’ve got a wide-angle lens backed by a 40 MP sensor that offers a ƒ/1.6 aperture, 20-MP, ƒ/2.2 ultrawide shooter, 8-MP, ƒ/3.4 telephoto, and a hard-to-notice sensor under the flash.

Huawei has bid adieu to the monochrome sensor of the P20 Pro, and replaced it with an ultra-wide lens. The P30 Pro is claimed to be the first cell phone in the world to be fitted with a periscope optical zoom lens that provides extremely strong magnification.

The device’s main 40mp shooter is capable of taking some impressive shots, owing mostly to the combination of a new image sensor design, object recognition and pixel binning. Night photography is yet another department where the P30 Pro camera is a clear winner, where it can achieve a peak of an impressive 409,600 ISO.

Moving to the front, the Huawei P30 Pro is fitted with a 32-MP front-facing camera, which is designed to capture selfies that boast immense detail. Adding to this, the P30 Pro selfie camera supports Super HDR technology, which helps preserve more details in the shadows and highlights.

Pros:

  • Long lasting battery
  • Excellent OLED display
  • Top notch cameras
  • Solid performance

Cons:

  • Audio not up to par with other flagships
  • Display ‘only’ Full HD
  • Design offers little grip

All in all, the P30 pro is a great piece of kit from Huawei for several reasons, starting with its gorgeous dual-curved design on the front and back. And even though it may not rank as high as the Galaxy S10 or iPhone XS, there’s no doubt that this is a solid smartphone.

The Huawei P30 Pro comes with an array of key improvements including IP68 water and dust resistance, highly accurate in-display fingerprint scanner, reverse wireless charging, flagship Kirin 980 chipset, battery life, and availability of more color options.

It makes a great choice for photography enthusiasts, thanks to its quadruple camera setup, and sets the gold standard for the entire mobile industry. However, just like any device, the Huawei P30 Pro isn’t perfect, but its shortfalls are negligible such as the lack of a headphone jack.
