Visitors of Our blog are no aliens to WhatsApp. In fact, of late we get more queries over WhatsApp than any other platform. Here’s a glance at the humble beginnings of the App. During 2009, two former Yahoo! employees (founders Brian Acton and Jan Koum) joined to start a revolution of the sorts. The name WhatsApp is a phonetic synonym for “What’s up”, an informal way to stay up to date with your acquaintances. The App initially suffered from numerous crashes and did not come up the App Store rankings.

However within the same year, Apple introduced Push notifications for Apps that were not open in active windows, yet could send alerts to users. This lead to WhatsApp 2.0 and there was no looking back thereon. WhatsApp later became a Facebook subsidiary during 2014.

Whatsapp is the most famous mobile messaging platform till date. We did a round-up of Tricks in WhatsApp that most users are unaware of :

  • Multiple Whatsapp Accounts using the Same phone: You may have more than one mobile number and wish to use each number for a separate purpose, yet do not want to carry two WhatsApp messengers. This is where Parellal spaces App comes to rescue. Just download it from the Google PlayStore and add more than one accounts not only on WhatsApp but other popular platforms too, like Twitter, Facebook, Viber, etc. Trust me, there are already more than 90 millions users on the Paralell App.
  • WhatApp forward messages draining your Data and storage space too? With the power to send multimedia files over WhatsApp, the nuisance of conversations eating up majority of your data has become a common worry. You cant stop your contacts from sending or simply Forwarding you media messages, however, you can choose whether to download those forwarded videos, audio files or images and save on data plan and storage space. The multimedia files from chat conversations and Groups get “auto downloaded” by default. Goto Settings and un-mark Auto downloading of each type of media and save yourself from the worry.
  • Read Whatsapp message text Without sending read receipt to sender: Once you are in receipt of a message that you crave to read yet do not wish that sender finds out that you’ve read it, turn on the Flight Mode on your phone. Read the message, Now, turn off the Flight Mode. No read receipt will be sent to the sender, hence you’ll not see the blue ticks
  • Ability to Mark important message as “starred” in the conversation: Simply long press the text in the conversation and mark it Starred. Finding these marked messages is super easy. Click on vertical dots on main windows and Goto Starred messages from there directly.
  • No need to Type your WhatsApp message ever: When you tap the message box and keyboard pops up from the bottom, just click on the “mic” icon on top right end of the keyboard and start speaking. The Speech to Text engine on your phone will convert your spoken words to typed text. Once you are done speaking and are satisfied with accuracy of automated typing, just hit “Send”.

  • Sending Large files in various formats like apk, exe, rar, doc, docx, xls, ppt, zip, etc: Sending files with common multimedia formats like images, videos and audio are easy over WhatsApp, however these too are subject to a maximum file size. And other file formats are rendered unfriendly by WhatsApp. You can send large files of different formats via whatsapp using following method:
    • Goto App Store or Google PlayStore and download the Dropbox App alogn with CloudSend App
    • Open CloudSend App and link it with your dropbox account.
    • Share the file on CloudSend App and the file will be uploaded to the linked Dropbox account
    • A weblink URL will be createdfor the uploaded file
    • Share this link to your contacts on WhatsApp and they can easily access the file just by clicking on the weblink URL.
  • Backup Chats on Local Storage or Google Drive/iCloud: You may wish to store your important WhatsApp conversations for future reference or are higged by the human tendency to KEEP every WhatsApp message that you’ve ever sent. WhatsApp allows Chat backups to Google Drive account as well as iCloud account.Goto Settings and select Chats and choose Chat Backup. Select your relevant backup service and needful is done.
  • Email a Conversation: In case you decide to keep a copy of a particular chat transcript, you can send the same to your email id. Long press on the chat conversation and select “Email Chat”
  • Create Shortcuts for Frequently Contacted Friends: You can easily create a contact’s shortcut on your phone Desktop (Home Screen) simply by long pressing on the Contact and selecting “Add Conversation Shortcut”.

  • Change phone number for Same WhatsApp Account: If you’ve changed your SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) number recently and are worried about losing all previous conversations done using the previous number, solution is easy peasy. Goto Settings and select “Change phone number”.
