  • It has rear video UHD 4K 60fps 1080 240fps, front video UHD 4K 60fps.

Let’s take a quick dive on the comparison

Google Pixel 5, for the first time, introduces its ultra-wide camera lens. Simultaneously, the Oneplus 8T didn’t get many changes when compared to its predecessor, the Oneplus Nord.

Looking at the specifications of both phones on paper. We can see that Oneplus 8T has some really high camera resolutions. The Pixel 5 can only boast of three cameras, and they all have low resolution compared to Oneplus 8T. Not only does the google pixel lack resolutions, but it also lacks picture processing speed when compared to the Oneplus 8T processor.

The Oneplus 8T boasts of a snapdragon 865 the Google Pixel 5 has a processor of snapdragon 765, which is less powerful than that of its counterpart the Oneplus 8T; not only will Oneplus 8T beat it in processing time, the Oneplus 8T will also have more HDR exposures, max resolution, and higher frame rate videos.

After putting the Google Pixel 5 and the Oneplus 8T to a shootout test, here are the results:

It can be noticed that the Google Pixel 5 works fine when taking very pleasing pictures. The Oneplus 8T losses data when it captures the darker areas of the background while the Google Pixel 5 retains a lot of the color. But when exposed to a lighter background, the Oneplus started performing better, increasing the vibrance, sharpness, and look crisper. The Pixel 5 didn’t perform much better in the lighter background.

Attention to detail

We put the two phones camera to test to know how well they capture details. Snapping the same image, we can see the Pixel 5 managed to retain more detail than the Oneplus 8T. its attention to small details in its pictures is more visible than that of the Oneplus, so when it comes to capturing details, we think Pixel 5 wins.

Highlights

Pixel 5 has a really amazing ability to retain details in highlights with a lovely view of the darker areas. Pixel 5 easily shows the highlights on the pictures, while the Oneplus 8T looks more oversaturated. The pixel 5 also shows more balance.

Color and contrast processing

The pixel 5 pictures have a lot more realistic colors in their pictures and look very realistic. The Oneplus 8T, on the other hand, has more contrast and heavy saturation in its pictures. Its images give that distinct pop, but it is less realistic when compared to Google Pixel 5.

Image brightness

It can be observed that Oneplus 8T images are brighter; this would be due to its amazing processor and its big sensor. At the same time, Pixel 5 has a more natural feel to its pictures. But Oneplus wins this category.

The ultra-wide lenses

Both devices take really soft and dark pictures with a lot more focus on the highlights in their respective ultra-wide lenses. Pixel 5 images look brighter with more dynamic range while Oneplus 8T ultra-wide lens pictures have more contrast and color.

Looking at the results so far, we have come to our conclusion on the Google Pixel 5 and the Oneplus 8T camera shootout:

One thing to notice is that Google Pixel 5 produced a better picture most of the time during the test, even though it showed some inconsistencies in its exposure. On the other hand, Pixel 5 had really good picture processing that edged that of the Oneplus 8T a little while delivering pictures with smoother highlights. The pictures looked more amazing, with a lot of attention to detail.

Another thing to consider is it is less expensive compared to the Oneplus 8T. There is a price difference of about 100 dollars, so this is a good one, knowing we are spending $100 less for the Google Pixel 5. However, we would have expected a better upgrade from Google.

Oneplus 8T was going after a punchier and more appealing feel for its pictures. When companies do this, they often sacrifice the details and color accuracy of their pictures, which happened in this case. Oneplus 8T has a lot of contrast, which wasn’t so nice for the pictures. Although times where Oneplus 8T pictures had more exposure, the Oneplus 8T had better highlights in its picture.

So here you have it, the camera shootout between Google’s Pixel 5 and Oneplus 8T. The competition is quite tight. Which one do you think is better. Is it the punchier Oneplus 8T camera or the Google Pixel camera?
