Install and use Magisk Manager and use Maisk Mods

Magisk has gained a lot of ground, mostly from its predecessor and competitor, Xposed framework. Magisk is a collection of features that can be applied onto your Android system without actually modifying the base system. It works with almos all the Android ROMs available in the market.

Magisk has a ‘hub’ style of working. Or more commonly known as Systemless root method. Magisk gives the system a superficial change which actually happens at partition level. In other words, the modifications are kept in boot partition, hence the android system actually does not detect the changes. System still thinks it is running untampered and functions normally without triggering Google SafetyNet. Perhaps this is the signature distinguish between Magisk and Xposed.

Magisk vs Xposed

As discussed in our previous article, Magisk differs in approach to root in comparison to Xposed. While Xposed follows a framework approach, that actually patches the android file system in order to implement material changes in System and 3rd party Apps, Magisk works on a virtual system.

While Xposed does enjoy the pioneer publicity and yet it became popular as an alternative to the existing leader SuperSU. SuperSu was the one that really brought about a great liberator feel to rooting, it is being replaced by Magisk. More so, the shortcomings of Xposed can be avoided by installing Xposed as one of the mods for Magisk.

Talking about similarities between the two, both systems have “mods” that can be patched onto the system to alter features of 3rd party and system apps.

Pre-Requisites to installing Magisk

  • Your Android device should be running Android 5.0+
  • Custom Recovery should be pre-installed – Preferably TWRP for simple install

Using the Magisk mods

Once Magisk installation is complete, go to the Magisk Manager app and have a look at the pre-existing modules. You can shoose your desired mods fromt he repository list to patch onto your android system. Upon installation of Magisk you have to take care of one most important thing, that is, hide Root. Hiding root is an iconic feature of Magisk and you should put that intp practice as soon as you install it. Otherwise features like Google Pay, Netflix may not work.
