Nokia X6 – First Impressions

So Nokia has come up with second phone with same name, X6. Not exactly! the original Nokia X6 (Symbian) was launched in 2009 by original Nokia. This time Nokia is owned by HMD Global and they are launching Nokia X6 (Android). HMD are under immense pressure to revive the Nokia brand and survive the market. HMD have taken up a multi-pronged approach of going after the established brands like Apple, Samsung, LG, HTC, etc, as well as relatively young yet successful players like OnePlus. Nokia has introduced phones in various segments and placed them neck-to-neck with competition.

HMD launched Nokia X6 in order to compete with the OnePlus 6, so as it seems. And the competition is mainly over pricing.

OnePlus, in an attempt to kill market leading phones, seems to be moving high up the pricing spectrum along with best in class Specs. Thereby creating a void in segment which OnePlus created with previous series of phones. Nokia is trying to capture that void with specs closer to top-end phones yet keeping the prices low. These are our thoughts about Nokia and their brand placement strategies.

Nokia X6 is a category killer which tries to tick all the boxes. To start with, it has a notch!

The phone measures 147.2 x 71 x 8 mm and yet weighs only 153 gms. While popular phones in similar size offered by top brands weight 10 to 20 grams more. Yet Nokia X6 has a durable body language with Aluminium frame and glass finishing at both front and rear sides of the phone.

The 5.8 inch screen delivers 1080 x 2280 pixel resolution which still manages to match competition. However in terms of under-the-hood stuff, Nokia X6 merely manages to breath some bits of fire. Phone has Octa-core processor with cores clocked at 1.8 GHz (Kryo 260) and does not sound much against OnePlus 6 Octa-cores clocked upto 2.8 GHz. And is supported by a relatively weak Adreno 509 GPU.

Nokia X6 is a dual SIM phone, and second SIM can be replaced wiht a microSD card of upto 256 GB.

The Dual cameras : 16 MP (f/2.0 aperture) and 5 MP (f/2.2 aperture) add good depth to images. Secondary camera too is high powered 16 MP (f/2.0 aperture). HMD has worked on Selfie prowess of their phones and also introduced the concept of ‘Bothies’.

X6 has Fast battery charging capabilites, also called Quick Charge 3.0 that charges up the Li-Ion 3060 mAh battery. Will HMD be able to make its presence felt in the market with Nokia X6, remains to be seen.
