Why is Google Pixel 2 still my goto phone?

The second offering in Google’s Pixel line-up of phones, the Pixel 2 was released during October, 2017. While Google retained an almost similar form factor, they did push up the specs a notch. Apart form the usual talkabout specifications, the phone also sported the unique Dual Pixel camera eliminating the need to have multiple camera to get greater depth in images. The phone did retain its edge in DxOMark rankings and stood within the crown’s reach. The review on DxOMark website simply takes Pixel 2 into the leading league of phones like Samsung Galaxy Note 8, HTC U11 and Apple iPhone 8 Plus. It has one of the best Portrait modes out there. And the lifetime free unlimited image storage for Google Photos on a Pixel phone is not a service to be missed.

There’s a lot more to the Pixel 2 than just a slick camera. For example on the software front, it has been on the leading edge with almost instant updates. And Google guarantees to keep pushing updates to the Pixel 2 uptill October, 2020. The phone is going to be first in line for Android and other Google updates.

The mostly metal build is another virtue of this sturdy slim phone. You really don’t need to cover the phone with a skin or case, unless your hands have a knack of dropping phones every now and then. Minor bruises and small height falls aren’t an issue with this phone.

The front facing speakers are a must for any phone that aims to deliver a complete sound experience tot he user. Front facing speakers to a certain extent give a cinematic movie / gaming experience and one doesn’t have to spend extra to get a bluetooth headphone just for movies. More so, video calling on the Pixel 2 is equally pleasurable. Front facing Stereo speakers are a must, even at the cost of bezels at the top and bottom of the screen. Like the original Pixel phone, Pixel 2 has the fingerprint sensor ergonomically placed at the back, which makes unlocking the phone an effortless task.

The squeeze feature to bring up the Google Assistant is a must-have for any android phone. It is as natural as pulling an arm of another human in order to ask a question. The lineup of features coming to the Google Assistant are only going to justify the Squeeze feature of the Pixel 2. And it saves the user from saying “Ok Google” or “Hey Google“, just squeeze and put your query forward.

Battery life of Pixel 2 has been satisfactory and the rapid charging does not let you wait for longer periods to charge your phone. The non-removeable Li-Ion 2700 mAh Battery is efficiently managed by the Android OS.

We do miss wire-less charging in the Google Pixel 2 along with the 3.5mm headphone jack. They will be missed in times to come.

The AMOLED 5.0 inches screen can render a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Good enough for a premium smartphone enthusiast. Pixel density of 441 ppi is promising. The Color Modes later added by Google are decent. This is a jewel of a phone and has gem of a camera. With all the right specs like the Adreno 540 GPU, the phone is certainly going to propel itself well with the enthusiasts.
