OnePlus 6T : All we know

OnePlus has fret enough already on the scheduling and re-scheduling of launch event for the OnePlus 6T. Which coincides with the Apple iPad Pro and Mac event on October 30, 2018. Since both events will be happening in New York, OnePlus would not want to jeopardize its flagship launch event under the shadow of Apple’s event. OnePlus is moving up the launch by a day to October 29, 2018.

Initially a simultaneous worldwide launch was planned on same dates across major markets where OnePlus is present. Except for the NY event, event dates in New Delhi, India are reported to remain unchanged. So in a way NY will get a taste of the new OnePlus 6T before any other place (despite of time zone differences). OnePlus charged tickets to attend the NY event, both for fans as well as the media fraternity. Last year they sort of reimbursed these expenses to those attendees who went on to buy their smartphone.

OnePlus is probably the only company that officially accepts that “leaks” are being let out ahead of smartphone launches as part of marketing campaigns.

Apart from these news, we have quite a bit of info regarding the upcoming flagship smartphone. First and foremost being the in-screen finger print scanner / sensor. In-screen finger print reader is not a revolutionary tech, it has been around as part of beta programs from many OEMs and a few Chinese players have already incorporated it into their phones. OnePlus has christened the new in-display unlock feature as Screen Unlock.

The user only needs to press down on the screen in order to unlock their phone. The screen has an optical fingerprint module under the display screen. And as OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau puts it, they’ve worked painstakingly to bring down the screen unlock lag times and re-engineered the unlock animation to ergonomically suit the unlocking process. The fact that OnePlus has been working on this feature since over a year, it is ought to reap benefits in their favor.

Post the launch event, OnePlus 6T is expected to hit the markets during November, 2018. And this launch pretty much seems to be in line to OnePlus’ practice of having two phone launches per year, first one would feature a new phone and second launch would feature a “T” version of the same phone, which would pack in improvements here and there without any new ground-breaking achievements.

Second most anticipated feature after the in-display fingerprint scanner is the Notch. Yep! It is already 2018 and the notch debate (originally started by Apple during 2017) fails to die down. Like most OEMs, OnePlus continues to make endeavors to increase screen real estate.

OnePlus might as well keep the design language similar to their parent Oppo’s latest smartphone Oppo R17. Not only the dimensions, OnePlus 6T is expected to carry the same waterdrop notch as the Oppo R17.

And the beloved 3.5 mm jack will be conveniently skipped in this phone as well. Sound quality lovers might wanna skip this offering and may prefer LG V40 ThinQ which still has the headphone jack.

The OnePlus 6T dimensions are not expected to diverge much from the OnePlus 5T which measures 156.1 x 75 x 7.3 mm and weight 162 grams. And the Optic AMOLED screen introduced last year in OnePlus 5T may also continue to prevail, with several color and brightness enhancements in the software.

The notch may lead to bigger screen despite of same dimensions, and OnePlus 6T may have 6.4 inch screen as compared to 6.0 inch screen in OnePlus 5T, while OnePlus 6 launched this year has 6.28 inch display. Similarly the screen resolution will get bumped upto 1080 x 2340 pixels.

Under the Hood is where the next crouching tiger will be found on the OnePlus 6T. The Qualcomm SDM845 Snapdragon 845 with Adreno 630 GPU same as OnePlus 6. Perhaps will feature the Octa-core (4×2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4×1.7 GHz Kryo 385 Silver) CPU as that of OnePlus 6.

Memory department is also not expected to have many changes as the OnePlus 6T may be launched with 128 GB internal memory and would have an extendable memory. As Carl Pei puts it, the OnePlus 6T will feature a substantial battery, we are sure he may be pointing towards a 3700 mAh or even more battery. While OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 6 only had 3300 mAh Li-Po batteries in them. And ofcourse Dash charge feature will be continued with minor improvements.

Looking forward to the launch event to confirm the rumors and news.
